I hope this helps a little. Iron Maiden (their mascot is Eddie on all their album covers) had it good, but Paul did too much coke, and Iron Maiden (being Eddie/Steve Harris) werent a punk band and Paul was (a Punk Rocker) so they let him go. After a while, Paul got kicked out and Maiden looked for a new front man. Paul got f****d, Steve the founder of iron maiden f****d him by kicking him out. THE RED LION is an english pub. And iron maiden were looking for a new singer. Looking for someone who can sing falsetto, i.e. bruce dickinson. SAMSON, the band, knew iron maiden was looking for a new front man. Bruce left his old band SAMSON to join IRON MAIDEN, cuz steve, the founder and songwriter of iron maiden convinced him to. then fat mike proceeds to say f**k off to bruce for taking pauls spot cuz he likes drugs and stuff. the number of the beast is a CD IRON MAIDEN put out. So when they say it would it be in bed with rob and judas priest is because Rob Halford likes men. Also Judas Priest's album Screaming For Vengeance came out close to Number Of The Beast and both bands are British so Mike prob thought metal fans would catch that.
@DastardlyHamster I had to edit it a few times to make sure I said it right because it's a lot. Even when I had the lyrics when it came out I had to look up some stuff, lol! I just wanted to save you all some time. Thank you for responding! Always love the reactions.
I think you off with the Rob and judas priest part.... I think it is more referencing Robs high pitch vocals and bruce being more like that than Paul's punk style.... Being in bed is being just like him....
I assume El Hefe (one of the guitarists) did the impersonation. He’s super talented with comedy and different voices and has done other impersonations on other nofx songs. More nofx pls! I’d recommend the decline (if you can hang with 18 minutes of perfect epic punk), separation of church and skate, seeing double at the triple rock, uh so many great tunes!
This is an interesting choice for first NOFX song but I see why you did it now. I think Fat Mike's vocals are at its peak between So Long and Thanks For All The Shoes and Wolves in Wolves Clothing. Idiots Are Taking Over would be the next one I would suggest if we're leaning heavy on interesting musicianship and lyrics.
Go listen to White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean. They played a show at Fat Mike's house where they played every song on the album. Easily their best record other than the Decline, but The Decline is it's own thing.
NoFX and Dead Milkmen are both great examples of talented musicians playing unserious music. 13:07 if lyricism is paramount I’d probably introduce Mika to “The Idiots Are Taking Over”, “Murder The Government”, and they biggest hit “Linoleum”
The idea is presenting a history of iron maiden as told through the analogy of a polygamous sexual relationship. The lyrics are probably the most clever part of the song.
Rob Halford, the singer of Judas Priest, is who he's referencing. Rob came out as gay in the 80's or so, one of the first Metal musicians to come out. So Fat Mike is calling the song "gay", saying it's in bed with him.
Ok. This is a song is about Irom Maiden & they're fall from the top in the 90's&early 2000s. Also it's asong about NOFX getting Aaron Abetta(El Hefe) when after recording and touring on there best LP from back in 91/92. Steve left in 92', just a few months before Smells Like Team Spirit was all over MTV. The shit talking goes as such; iron Maiden the character would be the remainder of the band and managers of the the band. Eddie being the Mascot. Paul is the vocalist of Iron Maiden ST Lp on Capitol(for America) & Killers also Capitol(for America) with Maiden Japan EMI. Killers & Iron Maiden EP Maiden Japan. Despite the success, everyone wanted to keep the momentum going while The rest of the band wanted to strike while the Iron was hot. All in all, it was a very good move for both sides.
@@mikecynic5167 It definitely wasn't Melvin. I'm not even sure it was Hefe. I know Mike has artists in and out of his studio that get featured on a ton of their songs all the time. If I were to take a guess, Mike is good friends with the guys from Avenged Sevenfold, and their guitarist was featured on Linewleum, their reimagining of Linoleum. I wouldn't be shocked if it were one of the guys from A7X.
Tim Armstrong and Rancid would be my biggest concern for Punk vocals, great band non-the-less. Great video. So much NOFX to choose from for the next one!
Glad you corrected her on the “joke band”, I hear that a lot or a comedy band, from people who’ve only heard of nofx. Just the connotation is dismissive, and they are way more than that. I’ve been a fan since early 90s around longest line ep, and yes they have plenty of joke songs, but even from the start fat mike is a lyrical genius, especially with puns and double entendres, and flat out word play. Also, I think a lot of that comes from the band themselves. Well Mike really, doing very few interviews over the years and always being self deprecating as far as the bands ability to play. That’s part of the joke with the “I heard they suck live” album. That was the rumor back then, and he’d always say they couldn’t play. But a joke band no, a shitty band no way. All have gotten better over the years but smelly has always been a great drummer, Mike is unreal on the bass, el hefe is the most talented and plays a lot of other instruments. Melvin is great in his own way, and adds so much with just the Mel yell, won’t be on any greatest guitarist lists, but he does what he has to and does it well. For the people arguing about the in bed with rob line, it’s probably both, or meant to be left up to your own interpretation, like a lot of lyrics mike writes. Way too many good songs to list, but a few I feel don’t get a lot of love are the bag from white trash, and we threw gasoline on the fire… from punk o Rama comp. The scream at the end is probably el hefe, check out “the fastest longest line” which is a b side on Liza and Louise 7 inch. It’s a cover of longest line with el hefe imitating fat mike, a sped up version of the song, and at the end of the song Hefe does a dig at axl rose, holding the last note for a minute and a half, it’s fucking amazing
@ yes it’s awesome, Hefes making fun of Mikes singing in it too, and “forgetting” lyrics, which Mike is known for doing live. Glad you checked it out, thanks for letting me know.
"How you supposed to rock and roll without substance abuse" has lots of meaning. Most notably, Steve Harris (ad Bruce Dickinson for that matter) is very anti drug and Fat Mike is very well known for being a huge drug user. So it's a way for Fat Mike to get a dig in at Steve.
I don’t like this song really, but nofx is one of my favorite bands. It makes sense to pick tho even if she doesn’t really know maiden. Which both of you should listen to to Iron Maiden. They’re tremendous. Especially number of the beast and powerslave
Dinging the song for the “lyrics being lazy” is such a bad take. She clearly didn’t understand the back story or all the references. Brilliant lyrics, story telling, and songwriting especially considering the backdrop.
We recorded this video before Paul Di'Anno (Paul Andrews) passed away.
Rest In Peace Paul Di'Anno

The world lost one of its best❤
Please tell me she was just blanking on Rob Halford's name in the moment. The utter disrespect to the Metal God, bruh 😭😭😭
Longtime NOFX fan here.
This is NOFX hitting on all 8 cylinders.
This song just fuckin' slaps 🤘🤙

@@paulrodsted3905 That makes sense as well. I didnt think of it that way. Or maybe Mike did a double entendre with it, lol!

It was him and he's probably the guy that influenced Mike to write it because he's always sporting the old Maiden shirts.

PS - some of the 80s were operatic...but please...
Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Sepultura
Testament
Death
And lot more!
Sepultura❤
I'm 100% punk, but I have a few metal bands that I love and respect! Also love Emperor and Obituary❤

Saw them live not too long ago, couldn't resist going to the final tour❤
How do you not know who Eddie is?

No he is saying that Bruce's vocals sound more like the high pitch vocals like Rob....

the iron maiden style vocals was el hefe
It was probably Melvin. His voice is higher pitched. Listen to the screams in NOFX songs.

@@tjf5348 Pretty sure it's Melvin dude. Sounds just like the screams on pretty much every NOFX album.
@@tjf5348I’m 98% sure “those” vocals were Spike Slawson for this track. 100% not Melvin. like the other guy said.
Great vid guys! Don’t forget some of NOFX’s classics Liza and Louise, The Decline etc..
You should introduce her to Black Flag, Bad Religion, and Fear if she likes more "masculine" punk vocals.
The Iron Maiden impersonator was one of the guitarists, El Hefe
The Iron Maiden scream was El Hefe, the guitarist. He’s a voice impersonator
Tim Armstrong and Rancid would be my biggest concern for Punk vocals, great band non-the-less. Great video. So much NOFX to choose from for the next one!
Jello Biafra goes up on this list too
Metal and Punk fusion
How does nobody know who Rob Halford is? I'm hitting my head on the keyboard.
Slipknot a few weeks ago and now NOFX!
2 of my favourites!

Really wondering how she’ll feel about Rancid and Dead Kennedys vocals
I think she will be okay with Rancid since she likes gruff vocals. Dead Kennedys might be a hard sell though... (But I will try!) ~Liam

Please don’t do California or Holiday. “Riot”, “Moon Over Marin”, or my favorite to introduce folks to “Police Truck”

The way Liam marked out there at the end of the song you'd think he might really like Iron Maiden.

Cokie the clown?? Surely you jest 😉😄
RIP NOFX & PD'A FTW
If one of the guys in the band did the Maiden vocals, I’d guess it’s El Hefe
NOFX formed in 1983.
you guys should check out Randy the band, early stuff. You'll be blown away.
Rob Halford is the singer for Judas Priest.
Not to be confused with Negative FX!
Lmfao I just remembered that you accidentally uploaded a NOFX reaction video that I watched and commented on😅

Rob is Rob Halford... you are not a metal fan... you are just wearing random metal t-shirts you find on Shein...

You should listen to RKL
NOFX rule and I hope you get to do 2 more!!! Love these videos guys!
Bro no wonder she thinks punk is all nasally. Where is the variety? You only have her hear pop punk and radio stuff
NOFX and bad religion are radio/pop punk? What a reach. Punk only counts if it's super obscure 80s hardcore right?
