    This was great. Thank you. I was scared to plant roses in Alabama but now I think I’m going ahead to plant these out front.

    I have mine in a container. I have white streaks on some of the leaves. What do I spray them with? I also have some holes in some of the leaves.

    How do you prune a long stem with multiple roses at the end. Do you cut it way back or just prune off the roses themselves

    I think I wouldn't like growing roses in Florida and similar areas (southern California, etc.). The lack of a cold winter doesn't force the roses into dormancy (or mostly dormant), which tends to have leaves carry over from season to season. That just seems like a recipe for constant disease fighting. We're in Central Texas (zone 8b), which gets hot and can have quite a bit of humidity, but at least in recent winters (acting more like zone 7a), our Drift roses have gone dormant and defoliated. So much easier to prune (hand pruners) and control disease when they do that. One month after pruning, our six Coral Drifts look as good if not better than what's showing up at the local nurseries.

    I'm in south Louisiana. I noticed that nurseries have a ton of drift roses out right now. I want to plant a couple in my front garden bed but not until fall. Do you think nurseries will still have a good stock come fall? Or, can I buy them now and keep them in their cans until October when I'm ready to plant? And lastly, once planted/established, can I just prune them back by 1/3 every March instead of all the way down?

      We can't know what your local garden center will carry in the fall, but you could buy them now and care for them until ready to plant them.
      And
      Yes, you can cut back 1/3.

    Is it to late to prune Drift roses in Lake City Fl

    • @EarthWorksJax
      @EarthWorksJax  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly so Suzanne as the key for annual pruning on drift roses is early Spring before buds on the canes begin to swell. Other factor is of course as they break dormancy, but even with our freezes this year I'm guessing they were never dormant. Light pruning for unruly growth is still common and not apt to damage your plants although it can reduce blooms from clipped buds.

      No they are a ground cover rose and only get 2' tall. A geat trellis rose is the DonJuan.

      I live near New Orleans.
      The red drift rose plant made very long canes.
      Those long canes can be pinned to a trellis.
      I have to constantly cut back those canes to keep the red drift rose is a neat little mound.
      But all my other colored drifts roses stay fairly low.
