- Stephen King is my only favourite author! Stanley Kubrick truly shot the coolest horror movie of all time, where my favourite and legendary actor Jack Nicholson starred! The entire soundtrack, like the film, still causes an atmosphere of impossibility. This film is still one of the coolest horror films! It has its own philosophy!

Tell my man Jacob to go back to sleep if this is what him getting up sounds like
It's probably Jacob from Jacob's Ladder lol
@@Joey7Z7Horrorgreat movie but I think this piece was originally made to represent how frightened and confused Jacob from the Bible was when he saw the ‘ladder’
@@caseyhafer2550 yeah I know. Just making a fun reference
@@Joey7Z7HorrorI think it’s something demonic
One thing I love about Kubrick films is his genius use of music without making you feel like you're in a bar with a jukebox constantly playing
This soundtrack definitely helped the most terrifying scene in the film. It’s slow, uneasy, and the viewer doesn’t know what that lady is going to do to Jack
This is absolutely the scariest track from the whole film for me
And the scariest scene too
No room 237 was so unpleasant
@@strangerthingshorrorfanbas6977 yup. Nightmares for years with that cackling lady...
Look up Penderecki if you want to hear more music from this composer. I wish the track titles credited the composers of each song. Anyway, this piece is based on the Dream of Jacob in the Bible, while another Penderecki piece used in The Shining is from a longer piece about Christ's Resurrection. This is the creepy percussion and voices when Wendy is running through the halls and seeing ghosts or macabre scenes in each room.
🥶😬👍🏾😉
The clarinet kicking in always gets to me! 1:44
It's a stopped horn. It's a great entrance, marked "quasi da lontano".
@@JanPBtest Thanks for the correction! As you can tell I have very little knowledge in music instruments :)
Truly isolated and dark, like you have no escape from darkness
Terrifying. This soundtrack always gives me chills!
One of the best musical experiences I have ever perceived. It haunts me all the time. Beautiful
You are a front desk worker at night shift (2am) and a man with a green coat arrives while he constantly stares you dead into the eyes. His eyes scream emptiness, like he is a husk for rogue sheyateen
I feel you would be a great writer gentleman or mam
Yeah, that was amazing! I could picture it perfectly
The freefall into madness
A soundtrack to your worst nightmares. If Hell made music, it would sound like this. 😱😱😱
Funny thing is, this is biblical piece. The conductor's score has this motto: "Jacob woke from his sleep, and said: 'Truly, the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it'. -Genesis 28, 16-17. And, of all things, the piece is dedicated to Prince Rainier III of Monaco on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his ascension.
in the dark after awakening from a fitful sleep…sweating profusely I spot a form in the corner of another room…
oh wait a minute…
it’s just my wife.
she loves this sad music.
If you have the book of the shining I totally recommend listening to this soundtrack while reading it
I fucking love this track.
Do you have any info on this particular recording? I’ve listened to every “Awakening of Jacob” on TH-cam (15 different videos, so far x_x ), and none of them were the exact version used on the film.
This IS.
I painstakingly synched every other version against the original mono soundtrack on Premiere, and only this one matches phrasing and chord entrances to the minute.
The only other version that comes close is “The Dream of Jacob (1994 Remastered Version)”, with 7:32 minutes in length. Performers in that video are the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra with Penderecki conducting.
That version is very similar in timbre, timing and phrasing in relation to the one here. Makes me think that the same musicians are, indeed, performing both. It’s just that the remastered versions published by Warner/EMI Classics ARE NOT the one on the film.
This version has lengthier chords, more connected and with more pronounced hairpins. Also a more prominent Bass Drum.
I know all of this sounds pretty obsessive. I’m doing some musicology research on the topic. I wouldn’t loose this much time otherwise.
It's probably a Muza (Polish recording company pre-1989) recording from the 1970s. The film uses mostly (or exclusively?) those Muza recordings for other Penderecki pieces.
This was one of the most hardest movies to decipher. The Awakening was my epiphany of Hell.
L'enfant lumière n'a pas perdu de sa puissance encore aujourd'hui c'est film efficace et terrifiant.
Melody to contemplation found by Me and Fortest
Would've been nice if they added the evil laugh in HAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA
Probably the scariest part of the movie
L'enfant lumière un roman intense angoisse frisson sont aux rendez-vous un véritable classic de la littérature 😂
chilling
What recording of this piece is this? I've heard many and none of them are this.
It is the Krzysztof Penderecki / Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra version
I've ALWAYS LOVED the Movies Oringnal Version of this piece Soundtrack than that New Version Soundtrack. Appreciated of You Uploading the Oringnal Theme for ALL OF Us!! 👍🏾😉👍🏾👍🏾🥶😬👭🧸🩸🩸🚪🪓🔪🌨️❄️🛀🥎☝️
Same here! This is much better
2:49 Why do I hear a creepy little girl saying "Daddy"!!!???
I heard it too, because of you xD
don't worry you're not going crazy, I heard it to
Glad you guys are hearing it, I'm only faintly hearing the skeleton with a trumpet noise.
Upon further reflection, I do hear it, she's got a little posh accent too.
