I recall only one person saying he would occasionally hang out with someone, seem to get along great, but then not hang out with them again. Maybe he was just down and wanted a drinking buddy. Plus, when you’re emotionally connected to the music you’re playing, you feel it and it churns out through you too. It’s not like playing through some real vapid pop covers. Mutual friends of theirs corroborated that this was indeed what happened. If you like Elliott, read "Torment Saint." Audible is amazing.
Torment Saint is awful. The author compares Elliott to Kurt Cobain constantly, he got his material from Elliott's girlfriend who was accused of killing him, and most of the stuff is wrong. Read the other book about him: Ballad Of A Big Nothing instead. Shultz is a disgrace

The last show he did here in Portland he was treated poorly too, people couldn't have any empathy for his addiction,sometimes you have to just treat people like a human and maybe it might help.
His songs were often premised on struggles with backbone. Paradoxical and expertly made. Now he'd gone and that really sucks.
