    Jet Set Willy II: The Final Frontier is ostensibly the sequel to the ZX Spectrum platformer Jet Set Willy. In reality, it is an expanded version of Jet Set Willy that was backported from the Amstrad CPC port, which itself was expanded from the original. As before, Willy has woken up in his gigantic mansion, hungover and with no memory of the night before. He must now tidy up the mansion so the can have permission from his housekeeper Maria to go to bed.
    Once again, DigitalDuck ( tasvideos.org/... ) cleans house in this run and goes to bed in record time, only collecting the minimum number of items necessary and dying multiple times in the process.

    The 5 minutes of ear bleed at the beginning was a nice touch.

    quintessential british gaming
    i don't understand some of the choices of which items to get or not get in this run though

      150 items are required to beat the game; some items (like those in Banyan Tree, Deserted Isle, and INCREDIBLE) take a really long time and don't have enough other items nearby to make the journey worth it. I also skipped the entire right side of the space section as it's one long dead end and only has a few items. From there it was just "which individual items take the longest to collect?" and cutting them until we get down until 150.

    am i missing something? why is there 4 and a half minutes of noise at the beginning?

    • @atalbrecht
      @atalbrecht ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Platforms like the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64 have *REALLY* long loading times. Early 80s computers just didn't have much memory to work with

    • @Bovineprogrammer
      @Bovineprogrammer ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@atalbrecht It's not the amount of memory, it's the loading mechanism - most games came on tape, and sound is not the most efficient storage medium. Games that came on disk loaded much faster, with the caveat that they were much more expensive, and you were much more likely to have a spare tape player lying around your house than a spare disk drive (so you'd have to buy the drive too).

    • @SpyroTheEternalNight
      @SpyroTheEternalNight ปีที่แล้ว

      i can understand the loading time. it was an early/experimental time for video games. but why all the noise then? was it needed to make the game work?

    • @Bovineprogrammer
      @Bovineprogrammer ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@SpyroTheEternalNight The noise is the data. The game is stored on a cassette tape.
