The lock stick on mine right out of the box was the worst I’ve seen in a Spyderco, I had to put some serious force into it to close it. I stripped and cleaned it thoroughly though and now it’s worlds better! Thank goodness. I’d been waiting forever to get an avocado too! I missed the last couple
I have the avocado manix 2 and it’s amazing! The 204P is stupid slicey and the blade wears in nicely. It doesn’t show any wear from light use but does take some discoloration. You’ll love this!
Spyderco used to ship almost all their knives that had the 4 way opinion for pocket clips, in the tip down righthand carry position. The Native 5 isn't my cup O tea. Thanks Doody
I have used tip down on purpose before, though it was when I served (not US) and I usually had a knife like this clipped to my vest. Made sense not having it partially open and gravity making it stick 90 degrees out to the side. Same with knifes clipped in tool bags and such, it just makes sense to not have the pointy bit pointing towards you when you stick your hand down there. You know, just in case.
@@doodysdaggers another plus that people don’t necessarily think of when considering tip up vs tip down - think of how dirty the bottoms of your tool bags are; how they end up accumulating dirt, sawdust, sand, bits of drywall, chunks of wire insulation, etc. Having the knife tip down keeps the pivot up and away from all of that crud. For a few years I had an Endura that lived in my tool bag that was tip down.
They really need to do a native with a compression lock. It would be the perfect knife. The lil native comes in either compression, back lock, or slip joint. The sage comes in almost every lock they have. It makes no sense why they dont do a native in a compression
Had a feeling you’d get this one haha. It’s my first native and it’s super nice honestly. I love the coating and that click is super satisfying when it’s deployed
They do have a green that’s somewhat similar… but what I would look for is the “Cast Iron” limited run colorway. That would pair nicely with the blade coating.
@@edwardgreller dlc can sometimes be applied with PVD processed but they are generally different. Dlc has that diamond like carbon which is not usually applied with physical vapor disposition as far as I know.
They have released a PM2, P3, P3 LW, Shaman, Native 5, Lil' Native, and Manix 2 so far in this configuration. This was also my first experience with a G10 Native 5. I have several LW versions and this is one of their best models.
@@TheGerardo136 they have done restocks on the Shaman and PM2. Think they have a restock planned for the P3 but I haven’t heard anything on the Manix 2.
The lock stick on mine is terrible. The lock back requires significant pressure to disengage. Thinking of sending it back. Any idea if it’s eases up over time?
Mine was really bad. Didn’t take it apart but after 3-4 days of cycling the action the lock stick seems to have gone away entirely. And it’s smoothing out nicely.
You know i used to really be into olive drab. Now i can take it or leave it but the avocado colorway really looks good on that knife. Maybe avocado needs to become the new olive drab.
I know on my hogue deka dlt exclusive in this same configuration army green peel ply g10 and the cerakote blade in the same brown color. So I'd guess it's a cerakote finish. Beautiful knife.
@thanks for telling us what it said on rec site I was to lazy to look it up lol. I believe cerakote is a form of pvd just like dlc. Physical vapor deposition is the process used to apply the coating. So technically dlc and cerakote would be pvd. At least this is what I’ve learned from my limited research into it. Anyone with any more knowledge on the subject I would appreciate hearing what they know.
leave the pocket clip holes alone. if i loose spyderco as a brand having all ambidextrous options i get out the game lol. nice knife man. no one does tip down but what if they want to.
Thank for waiting and stay tight. Take care Dood.
The PM2 comes with the clip mounted in the tip down position. So I'm glad they give the option. Nice looking Native5!

I got 2 and one is super smooth and drops shut if i use my pointer finger to depress the back lock, but the other one has horrendous lock stick.
Yeah I put a drop of lube on the tang where it rubs on the lockbar and it helped a lot
Congrats, REC makes amazing exclusives
Had to have this !
My favorite Spyderco ever 👍🏼
A welcomed addition as my 5th N5

Hey Dood. Hope you and yours are staying safe with all those fires raging. You da Man, cool guy
We are safe, thanks bud
@ if you ever have to evacuate up North, I got you 👊
Just bring that sweet collection of yours lol!

Okay yea that makes sense

Picked one up too. Was STIFF out the box. Thing is a little tank. Love it , enjoy
Yeah it was but mine has broken in really nice. A drop of lube on the tang where it rubs on the lockbar helps a lot too

I need to get an avocado collection going
Very Cool!!! Wish I could have got one!!
Hey right on! Also grabbed one on the last drop. Have a LynchNW pocket clip on the way for it too.
Nice!’
Love the Native 5, I have the CF/S90V version.
This has been my first and only purchase of the year. Great model 👍🏻
You made a good choice!

Glad ya got one too!
@@doodysdaggersyea I’m super happy with it
Native 5 is a dream of dreams. I know it will never happen but I would love to have it in a scandi grind version 😊

It’s PVD. Maybe the sharpest edge on a Spyderco I’ve seen yet. Lock stick was really severe but after a few days appears to have gone away completely.
Yeah mine was pretty sticky but it’s almost gone
i hope they come out with the para 3 like that again
Been wanting a rec exclusive spydie since i started collecting them, just never pulled the trigger on one
That rec avocado looks so nice! 🥑
It’s a PVD coating. It’s actually the only spyderco with a PVD coating. The other ones are all DLC or TiCN
Thank you!
Isn't DLC a form of PVD coating?
@@edwardgreller dlc can sometimes be applied with PVD processed but they are generally different. Dlc has that diamond like carbon which is not usually applied with physical vapor disposition as far as I know.
@@Mike-mi3yw I got 3 REC pm2s and I love that flat dark earth PVD coating 👍🏻 what a match
That’s an MXG clip on the AWT maxamet Native 5👍🏻
I dig the black hardware on this one. Stoked ya got one man. Thanks for sharing it.
Waiting for the 15v version to come out
It looks fantastic

Awesome that’s the info I was looking for thanks! Yeah man I’m really digging mine. I might even leave the g10 scales on
Do you know if they restock the already released exclusives? Or are they a one time release? I’m tryna get a manix 2 in that config

It's my first 🥑too. Still waiting for my pocket clip though.
Dood! Happy monday bro.
You too bud 🤜🤛

I have the Shaman. I have no idea how many they've made. It's a bunch.
Sweet knife Dood! Pretty sure that’s an MXG clip and not a LynchNW clip. Those avocados are sweet
It is I have the same one.
Yeah you’re right
Wish it had a compression lock
Man, I wish I would’ve grabbed one. I’m trying to not buy everything this year. I have the pm2 version and love it
lynch makes a clip to match the PVD!
Sweet

The REC website says it's a PVD coating, physical vapor deposition. IDK, how that matters as far as use and long term wear.

Sweeeet, thanks for showing us this one,, 👍
I like the muted colors. Probably good for cutting avocados. Video title has misspelling on exclusive fyi
Oh shit thanks
I seen someone post they only have one washer in pivot is that true not centered correctly
No they’re centered but it’s true there’s only one washer.
@doodysdaggers wow wonder why
I don’t buy knives with coatings either! Satin all that way!

Cool looking but better than lw with AWT? Nope. Isn’t clip on your lw MXG? U gave credit to LNW🤪
Yeah my bad it’s mxg
