    Eye AF isn't useable for team sports, as it jumps too much around and it's not possible to limit the detection area. It's simply not sticky enough.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto

      Yeah I found that to be the case sometimes. At other times it locked on one face in the group and kept it there. This is why I was turning it on and off.

    Hey Pete, came back to this video again because I finally got to hold an X-T5 in my hands this past weekend at our local camera store. OMG, I couldn't believe the difference in the LCD and EVF compared to my X-T3. Soooo much brighter and the EVF is larger too. The one thing I would definitely need to add would be the bigger grip. I also have one on my X-T3 and it's a huge improvement. Of course, you used the lens I've been dreaming about getting in this video! LOL! But, now I'm wondering if having a 40mp sensor paired with the xf90mm will be a big leap because I'll have more cropping latitude. I shot some indoor flag football recently with the xf90mm and X-T3 using AF-C and it did a really good job. I didn't shoot any bursts though, only single shots. I basically follow action until I see some something I like is going to happen. The I'll get maybe two or three shots. I also use the command dial for SS most of the time now. But, when it comes to sports you want to keep that SS up high enough to stop action. So, especially since I was indoors, the ISO was the changing variable. I did change aperture a bit here and there depending upon the background. I did find that I enjoyed shooting sports though! Thanks again for this video. I originally watched it because of the lens. Now, although it won't be for a while, I may consider a body upgrade at some point. Have a great week!

      Awesome! Did you check out the XH2? No grip is a big drawback for the XT5. But yes you can crop quite a bit with the 40mp sensor - this is a big advantage of having the 5 or the XH2. If I were doing a lot of sports and nature I would want the XH2 because of the CF card, grip, etc.

    • @charliejg
      @charliejg 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PeteCocoPhoto No, they didn't have an X-H2. They don't have a large Fuji selection in the shop. I know they don't make a battery grip, but I do think you can get an extended non battery grip. I have that on my X-T3 and it makes a huge difference. I won't be looking seriously for a while. I was thinking that the X-H2 might be to big for hiking. And, those CF cards are pricey. Might be hard to justify unless the used market gets good. Maybe I will make a stop at B & H to check it out when I come to the NYC Auto Show. Take care....

    Hi Pete, thanks so much for the video. I have problems with autofocus when shooting sports, such as not focusing completely on the subject. Focus on the subject in the middle of the human body is still good, but at the tip of the head it seems out of focus. Do you have any tips or solutions to solve it? (I use Fujifilm X-T5 and Fujinon 50-140mm)

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There could be a number of reasons for this. Are you are using face tracking? This way it locks onto the face instead of the body. Also you can use a smaller aperture which gives you more depth of field. Also experiment with the custom AF modes in continuous, as some work better for certain sports and some for others.

    Hi Pete, came across your channel. I just jumped to Fuji & got myself an XT5. Still getting used to Fuji’s OS system. I am a beauty & editorial photographer. I jumped to Fuji because I want to mainly capture my child’s life and I adore Fuji’s color story.
    Long story short, what lens do you recommend for action shots including concerts? I currently have the f2 35mm.
    I’ve shot from Canon, Nikon and Sony. And I’m tired of carrying around DSLR’s and I thought using an 80mm for my Europe trip when I still used m50 canon was going to be helpful but the photos were extremely awful and they weren’t steady.
    Lastly, I must add that I am a wheelchair user so most of the time I cannot get right up on stage when I go to concerts or certain locations to get amazing shots so mobility would be an issue.
    Thanks for listening. I admire your xt5 content!

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Regarding lenses for concerts, you want to get the fastest possible lens that's long enough for the venues you are going to shoot in. If you can't get that close, I would want at least something like the 50-140mm, which is roughly a 200mm full frame equivalent. The Fuji 70-300 is a great lens too, although it's slow so not ideal for poorly lit conditions. If you shoot in small venues like I do, or are able to get pretty close to the stage, then you have more choices. For instance, I used the Viltrox 75mm 1.2 for some sports/concerts and got awesome results with the XT5 because I was able to crop in A LOT and still get sharp photos. I also used the 2x digital teleconverter in the XT5 to give me a 150mm (basically this is just cropping the image in camera). Hope this helps!

    I’m quite impressed by your in focus hit rate with Release Priority. Do you have a secret? I tried Release priority with my running 6 yo boy and hardly got a single shot in focus. I used both the XF16-55 and Viltrox 33 1.4.

    How would you compare the 90 f2 and the 50-140 ? Of course the latter got the 50-90 range. But for the 90-150 range, doesn't the 90mm partly compensate because one can crop more since we shoot at lower iso, and the quality of the shots will be slightly better since it is a prime ? Plus you got a bit more bokeh with f2 than you do with f2.8, so with shooting at 90mm f2 and croping, don't we get at least like a 125 f 2.8 equivalent in terms of quality and Bokeh ?

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried the 90mm, although everyone says it's one of the best. I have used the 50-140, and absolutely loved it. The biggest limitation of the 90mm in my opinion is the range. I find it too far for portraits. I prefer between 50-100mm (in ff terms) for my portrait work.
      It depends what you want to do with it as well. Sounds like the 90mm might fit your needs better based on your comment. You are correct that the wider aperture and fixed focal length will render better detail and more bokeh. Also, the 50-140 is a very big lens too so that's something to also consider.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Juan, any 70-300 that's around 4-5.6 aperture is not going to be great for indoor sports. You need something much faster, like a 2.8 constant aperture. Outdoor sports on a nice day it will be no problem.

      Thanks for the reply Pete. Today I had the chance to try the X-T5 and I noticed, as I believe you mention in the video, that the buffer became full really quick. @@juan.carlos.lazaro Yes, if you are using larger lenses and doing a lot of sports/action, the XH2 is a better choice. It has an excellent, deep grip, and the buffer can handle a TON of shots.

    Hi Pete. I have an X-T3, and have not upgraded yet to the X-T5 or X-H cameras as I am still deciding whether to switch systems entirely. I shoot a combination of things, but mostly portraits and concert photography, and landscapes for my zen time.
    My question is about back button focus vs face/eye detection. Sometimes I find these do not play well together. I may be imagining it, or it may be that the X-T3 face detect algorithm is not good enough. I have used BBF for so many years it would be a wrench to go back.
    Just wondering your thoughts on this since you seem to use the face/eye detect a lot. Do you also use BBF? Any thoughts on this?

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't personally use BBF but I can tell you that the AF in the XT5 is vastly improved over the XT3 & 4. What other system are you considering? I also shoot with a Canon R5 and that still beats Fuji in terms of sheer speed and accuracy of focus, although the XH2 is going to be the closest to the R5 in that regard and something you might want to consider. I love Fuji for many reasons, but one of the biggest advantages is the smaller size and price point.

    • @GlennHubbers
      @GlennHubbers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I love Fuji for a lot of reasons as well. Smaller size is great for my hiking. I also have a lot invested in glass, so moving to a different system would be expensive. I have an X-T2 and X-T3 currently and am considering moving to the X-T5 (primarily for stills) and X-H2S (primarily for video) combo. I'm not a huge fan of the PASM dial on the X-H cameras but want the LCD operation for video.
      Mostly I want to be sure how the auto focus functions on those cameras before pulling the trigger. And I really don't think I could go back to not having BBF. I've been using it for over 10 years and my brain is not happy when using someone else's camera.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GlennHubbers I think you will be super happy with the af in the XT5. It really is a giant leap over the 4 - and I don't think the BBF will make any difference in the speed since it's just mapping which button you use for af, unless I'm missing something. I would go for it dude!

    • @charliejg
      @charliejg 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like we have similar photography interests. I mostly am a hiker who takes his X-T3 along always. That camera is quite a beast. While hiking I typically have the 18-55 on the camera unless I'm shooting with a vintage lens. I also enjoy shooting sports and events like our local summer concert series in the Lehigh Valley area of PA. I use BBF all the time. However, I do still have AF mapped to the shutter button for AF-C. I used it for the first time recently, paired with the xf90mm f2, shooting some indoor flag football and it did a great job. I was quite happy with the results since it was the first time I tried it. The xf90mm is currently my longest reach AF lens and it's so sharp. Some day I'd love to get the xf50-140, but for now it's a bit too expensive for me to justify as an amateur photographer! LOL!

    • @GlennHubbers
      @GlennHubbers 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had forgotten about this until I saw someone @charliejg comment.
      Since posting this I have traded my old X-T2 for the X-H2S. It's a learning curve, but I am happy with it so far.
      I am finding that the PASM dial bothers me less than I expected it would.
      The AF is SO much better than my older camera, it has been worth the upgrade for that alone. I still think the eye detection could use improvement as it jumps around a lot, but that may be due my learning curve and I probably need to adjust some settings.
      I am still planning to do one of two things...
      Option 1: Upgrade the X-T3 to the X-T5. Reasons are the AF improvement (nice to have, not necessary for landscape), the 40MP (nice to have for landscape for larger printing), and most importantly the screen. For landscape work with an L-bracket on a tripod the screen X-T3 / X-T5 is a MUST HAVE and the screen on the X-H2 / X-H2S is pretty much useless.
      Option 2: Ditch the who Fuji kit and move over to the Nikon Z8. @PeteCocoPhoto, you asked which system I was considering.
      The move to Nikon would be extreme though due to the price point.
      In terms of BBF, I have been experimenting with NOT using this on the X-H2S and just letting the eye detect do it's thing. So far... I'm still getting used to this and sometimes find myself hitting that button my default. I had to assign it to do nothing as a precaution.

    A most instructive video presentation! I just wondered when you said "Back-up" for the Card Slot Setting, did you rather mean Separate? Isn't Separate needed for saving one set of shots as RAW files and the other parallel one as JPEGS (choose either NORMAL or FINE)? I thought that Back-up was needed for saving a second set of RAW or a second set of JPEGS, but maybe I've got it all wrong!
