    It’s okay Shan! Don’t ever think you have to share stuff with us fully. Your family is allowed to keep things private. It doesn’t bother me knowing all half the story or none of the story. I just like to know you all are healthy ❤

    Oh Shan. There is nothing more terrifying than thinking something is wrong with your bub. It truly is like living with your heart outside your body. I'm so happy Porter is ok 💗

    I’m currently breastfeeding baby no 3 and breastfeeding is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, hands down. Im in the club that fed is best and a happy healthy mum is better then a stressed unhappy mum. There is no reason for anyone to have a negative opinion about anyones journey - let’s face it all kids end up eating junk off the floor eventually lol 😂

    Breast is not best! FED is best! And you are an amazing mum no matter how your feeding P ❤ I pumped full time for the first 2 months of my daughters life and she is now 5 and a half months old and 100% formula fed and THRIVING!! You have to be happy in yourself to have a happy baby. Keep doing what your doing you got this ❤❤

      @jdxx59 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree!, I breast fed both my kids (now aged 36 and 29) until they weaned themselves. I think the only thing in favour of it is that I didn’t have to wash/sterilise bottles and it was free. But I always worried they weren’t getting enough, felt tied to lounge chair for so long, which was frustrating. I have never judged any mother on whether they breastfed or bottlefed. As you say FED is best! A happy mumma is a happy baby (and the rest of the family)

    Only good mums have that guilt Shan! Earlier this year my 4yr old was diagnosed with autism and I blamed myself for ages thinking it was completely my fault. But I honestly wouldn't change it for the world. He has the most beautiful soul and he's such an amazing big brother 🥰

    • @caitlinnnnnn1934
      @caitlinnnnnn1934 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As an autistic person there’s nothing wrong with us, our brains may work differently to neurotypical people but it is not something to fear or be sad about. I wish I had a diagnosis at 4, I would’ve gotten the supports I needed! It is a positive and affirming experience to have a diagnosis. Now is the time to learn about how your sons little brain works to understand him better❤ Different Not Less is an amazing book by Chloe Hayden you should read! The resources online are also amazing, the best way to learn about autism is from autistic people.

    • @taylawood3221

      I've joined a few pages on Facebook to help me learn about the way my son sees things and it's such an eye opener! The only thing I struggle with is the wait list for all these resources. He's meant to be starting school in may and because so far he has no support in the transition from MOE it's so difficult. I'm hoping this year he gets the help he deserves though!

    If you ever add water to a sauce make sure to pour some out into a container and then add water. Otherwise adding tap water to the bottle can cause dangerous bacteria to grow.

      I am just now getting the chance to finish watching this vlog. I'm so sorry for the scare you had with Porter's health. I've had a scare with my daughter when she was only a few days old and she is 6 now, but I still cry thinking about it. As parents we feel things so deeply when it comes to our babies. I'm so happy he's okay! ♥

    We would think that by the first week we’d all have been humbled enough to be kind to one another. 😅 I swear as soon as I realised the reality of newborn life I was like f*ck it. I’m never judging any mother ever again. This is insane. Do what you gotta do to survive and make it out the other side! 🎉 Fed is best. And babies need their mums to be doing good. So you gotta do what’s best for you individually. Protect yourself and take excellent care of yourself. It’s the only way we can be the best for our babies. ❤

    Another great video! I love it when you talk to us like we're your best friends! Regarding the time you get with your children.... you basically have 18 summers... 18 Christmases... etc. Make them great so Porter will always remember. You can always make more money, you can clean later, etc but you will never get the time back so make it count. You're a fantastic mom & you're doing a great job with Porter in my opinion!

I beat myself up about it and no one not even my spouse could get me out of my guilty funk. I woke up one day and was like “you know what as long as I feed her , love her and make sure she’s healthy … she will be fine!!” Once I realized THAT I was able to bring my PPD waaaaaay down now we’re both doing great!

    Hi Shan - I have never commented before - but your baby story scare reminded me of my own struggle. I am very happy that your baby is good. For us it took years to find out that my daughter has MD - a disease of the muscles and it was so hard to recover once her diagnosis was given. All the moments leading up to and after were so hard but I am still blessed! There are times that are tougher than others but pray everyday for the journey we have been placed in. Take care and know your not alone.

    The perspective you put it into as adults like getting up to pee, needing to drink etc is definitely such a good way to think & the perfect statement however babies just need more help doing so, it’s like the same if it was disabled people or elderly for example. You are an amazing mum Shan, and the reason you are so hard on yourself only just shows the amount of love and care you have for porter. It also reflects on the kind of mother you are and it’s definitely a damn right caring one. Be proud of yourself you are doing the right thing x

    Hi Shan, we have a 4 month old and have had several health issues with him, 2 of which were surgical. I totally understand how you feel, it is so tough and I still go through the self blame etc too even though I was so careful and healthy in my pregnancy. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, often people don’t talk about these issues with their babies so you feel alone. Yet all the issues we’ve dealt with are quite common according to drs.

I’m now pregnant with my first baby, a little boy, I’m afraid of him getting sick or having something wrong. I’ll be emotional like you are, there is nothing wrong with that. 1st baby I EBF by pumping - because my boobs are not made for BF without a nipple shield it was a nightmare for us both, I cried when I had to switch her at 12 weeks to formula because of the pressure I put on myself to BF for as long as possible, 2nd baby - bought formula before she was even born, got to 5 weeks EBF but heel to the no when you have a toddler as well, both my babies thrived on formula! We always feel guilt but we shouldn’t, FED is best and Mumma has to be happy too! You are doing amazing!

U can still do that with a high chair time and play pin time. Ur son will learn what mom does. Also. Sesame Street and a high chair is fun times for him. He will observe and learn more in the first 3 yrs of his life, more than the rest of his life. Lots of ❤

    Shannon, it’s so hard when your baby is poorly or could be. It’s the most worrying thing ever. Stay strong you’ve all got this. They end up being stronger than we are. Day 2 of my little girls life, while alone I got told she had a heart murmur and pulmonary stenosis and that intervention would be needed. It was 10pm at night I was in the nicu alone and I asked if my baby girl who I’d only been able to hold once would be ok, the doctor said I think so. We had a specialist appointment at 2 weeks old, she had her keyhole procedure on her heart at 6 weeks and then another at 4 months. It’s been so hard and my anxiety is through the roof. But she amazes me every day. She will always be under a specialist and have constant check ups. They’ve done all they can with key hole now so if it worsens it will be open chest surgery which terrifies me. But I know I need to take each day as it comes and be strong for her. She’s such a happy little girl and being her mum is the best. But I agree with the mindset thing, now I find it hard still sleepless nights, I’m just so grateful that she’s here, for every moment we have and I just pray she will always be ok.

    I get where you come from! My daughter is 15 months old and when she was a day old we found out she had hip dysplasia and needed to be in a pavlic harness for 12 weeks. It was heart shattering to me. All I could think of was what I could of done differently or why did this happen to her because she didn't deserve this. Something like that happens and it puts you on the brink of PPD. I made it through and Chloe's hips are great now! She still routinely goes to the specialist and now I am glad I can advocate about it. Also, she still wakes up in the middle of the night and the most I've ever got from her was 7 hours straight of sleep so YOU ARE NOT ALONE. lol

    The worst feeling is thinking something is wrong with your baby.. I'm so glad he's happy and healthy!!! That would of been so overwhelming for you all..
    As for bf my gosh that's like a tapu topic eh far out lol, everyone has their own views and it should never be forced on anyone.. Fed is best, as a mum of 8 (newest is a month old yesterday) there's so many reasons why bf is tough, my only successful one was #5 he went to just over a year and I loved it.. All the rest were between 3days and 6 months.. My littlest has tounge and lip tie and does not open his mouth wide enough so he's been bottle since 2days old and man is there a difference compared to the others..
    Aslong as you yourself are coping mentally, emotionally and spiritually then do whatever is working for you ❤️

    100% agree I'm a solo mum of 2 but my oldest is 17 and just started his first job and I keep thinking, yup he really doesn't need me anymore. My youngest is almost 6 and I still sit here and think where did my baby go? I also have days where I wake up and think urgh it's too early to be awake and want to go back to sleep but then think no I need to get up, wake up my daughter and get ready for the day. Especially seeing as she loves school, but yeah deffo have days where I don't want to anything. I used to really beat myself up over it but now I'm like ok this is normal, I shouldn't feel guilty for putting things off and taking a random nap or just chilling watching something and having me time. The best thing I found to remind myself is that you can't fill up your children's cup if your own is empty and I also think about the flight info where they say put your own oxygen mask on before helping anyone else . I hope that made sense lol.

    I’m so happy to hear Porter is doing well and so sorry that you had to go through such an emotional time! Going back to the gym is so good for you mentally and physically! I’ve put it off until January because just been in a bad head space for awhile now our minds are so powerful as you said thinking positive beings about a good change! You’ve gotten so much wiser Shan which comes from experience and age ..excited for your move your new home is going to be so wonderful! Hopefully your nip rip is in full recovery 😂I know it wasn’t funny but made me laugh because never in a million years did I think I would hear you say that 😂Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy Porters first Christmas as a family!😘

    Hi Shan, just a question please don’t take offence to this, but have you been checked for postnatal depression, I understand parenthood my daughter is 4, do you find yourself crying most days? Cause I was like that I couldn’t wait for my child to get a little older so it wouldn’t seem a hard, but now I regret looking forward too it, it goes by way too quick

    I breastfed both my boys for just over a month. The second I did regret stopping, I totally understand your guilt. My first was a preemie and I had to pump all my milk for him. The nurses told me to pump near him to help my supply. One night as I was sitting there pumping, I look at him lay in his crib all by himself just looking at me while I pump. This is when I stopped. I’d rather sit and hold his bottle of FORMULA and hold him and comfort him verses sit him there himself with his bottle while I pump. In a year or two when he no longer takes formula/breast milk, you won’t even think of this. And when he’s older, he won’t even remember. I know that doesn’t help how you feel now, and that’s ok! If you didn’t have guilt and feel bad, that shows how good of a mommy you are. ❤

    I was that child (and through adulthood) who had multiple serious health issues and my mom wasn't like you, she blamed me and said I traumatized her for always being sick. She even asked the rheumatologist if I gave her arthritis since I had gotten it at 4 years old which was several decades before she got a different type of arthritis then what I have. The doctor was furious at her for trying to blame me, kids can't pass stuff on to parents, parents are the ones who can unfortunately pass genetic disorders to kids. I don't blame any of my family for my chronic illnesses no matter how bad they treat me.
    My son almost died at 15 years old (on April Fools day so now we joke that the universe played a terrible joke on him) and it was terrifying. His appendix had ruptured and been leaking poisonous toxins in his body for several days before we knew something was wrong and finally called an ambulance. At the ER he had spiked a fever of 104.9 F which is when the brain literally starts cooking itself so they had to try to get his fever down to 103 before he could safely be operated on. It was so awful to watch him suffer. All he wanted was for the pain to stop and he desperately wanted a sprite because he was so hot. I felt so helpless. After the surgery he looked at me and said, "Mom, the pain I felt, that's what you experience all the time isn't it?" I said yes and he said, "I'm so sorry you feel so much pain all the time, I logically understood but now I understand even more and I wish I could fix it for you like you fix everything for me," I bawled like a baby at how sweet that was after such a scary event. I also made sure he finally got that sprite he wanted. It took him 5 months to fully recover from having all the poisonous toxins in his body for several days, he had a drain bag for a month that had to be emptied and cleaned daily.
    I'm so glad Porter is okay and please remember you are not to blame, you did exactly what a good mom is supposed to do 💛 sending lots of hugs & support your way Shan!

    When ever you update us on the house I always think "how can they afford to build a house after having a baby" but then I remeber you don't live in a shit country and didn't have to pay 10-20k or more in hospital bills. Sorry thats kinda a bummer. If I could move anywhere in the world I think my first choice would be New Zealand its so beautiful! Either way super super happy and stoked for you and Hamish!

    Nurse your baby for as long as you want. Co-sleep if you want. I promise they'll grow up and want independence. My daughter co-slept and I nursed her until she was 3. She's going to be 16 the day after Christmas and is a very independent young lady who loves her mom. I ignored anyone who told me different. It's not their kid so they can kindly (or not) fvck off. Do what works for you and your family. Y'all are the only ones that matter in your life. ❤️

    Thank you for not mum shaming or over glamorizing my "baby does this, my baby sleeps through the night, I sleep trained for, I gave birth this way" blah blah crap. I breastfed with my 1st until she was 1. She was a nicu baby and we had to top up fed for a little while plus was a csection. Pumping was like milking a cow. I donated most of my milk when we left nicu as I knew I didnt have the space to store at home and it went to a set of twins. My 2nd baby I breastfed again until nearly 1yr and she was a vbac baby. I tried a gentle way of sleep training and it threw my mind into a melt down. My sil babies were Angel's, slept through straight away, would nurse for a exactly x mins, would go down for naps, both were natural deliveries blah blah fucking wonderful for you. I was shamed for having a section for taking the easy way out. It was for medical reasons and a section is classed as a major operation but hey, your opinion. Everyone is different do what feels right for you and your family. As for getting your supply down honestly your friend has given the best advice. Just take enough off to feel comfortable, dont get me wrong it isnt always an easy process but will happen in time. Just remember to give yourselves grace!!! I have always enjoyed your channel, you hamish and porter deserve and have worked very hard for your stunning new home. Love ya x
