Understanding Sensual pleasures was hard to understand for me for awhile. Reading this Sutta helped me understand what sensual pleasures were and how to look at them and either do them in little bits or not at all.
The Buddha is sugato. He only speaks what is beneficial, timely and truthful. when he said the body is full of feaces and urine, he must have know that the parents of Magandiya is ripe for awakening with that prompting. Surely he too would have known this would anger the girl. The Buddha had no worry as to what revenge the girl might devise later. Fearless is the Buddha, most compassionate and wise. That is why I think the Buddha was speaking that way.
Majjhima [ Middle length ] Nikaya [ stories/ readings / accounts ] there are the long ones DN [ Dighe ], the MN middle length, SN [ a kind of grouped accounts ] and then some other collections. The Buddha's life and teachings are collected in various categories like this. The overall collection is the Pāli Canon, TiPitika, Three Baskets. Who and How is covered in the Wiki and links. Wish you well.
i have watched, with appreciation to you all, every video on Dhammaloka. i love you all, but please leave the zoom button alone?...you can never tell who is asking questions and i have my pc hooked up to a 32'' lcd tv. something to think about? cant ever catch the stream...
From what I suspect, probably Nibbana and Jhana wasn't dumbed down in the pre-Buddhist era as claimed by Ajahn Brahm. We have no idea how long ago was the previous Buddha's dispensation. Gotama Buddha adopted some of the Brahmanical terminologies of the time and gave them a new definition. For me, that makes more sense then claiming it as dumbing down these terminologies.
MN 75 is the catalogue system. Majjhima Nikaya MN, has 152 stories in it. A Sutta is one story related. A sutta is a thread, the thread of a story. Perhaps also a hearing. Suttas are the way the accounts were recorded verbally at first. The scribing happened a little later. Keep investigating it is all described. The Early Buddhism Series, by Dhammaloka Centre tell about it. Wish you well
MN stands for Majjhhima Nikaya which are discourses by the Buddha and his disciples. If you want to learn more then a really good website is accesstoinsightDOTorg
Can someone tell me what this is? I often listen to Ajahn Brahm. What's the "MN 75 Magandiya Sutta"? - Is a Sutta the Buddha's teaching? Wikipedia isn't clear. Sutta's are the Buddha's teachings? Who wrote them for him/did the Buddha have a scribe? What does "MN 75" mean? Thanks!
@ justpickin4me ... maybe with appreciation, but no tolerance ... so much pride and ego and restlessness in what you're writing. Cool it; take what is there; stop asking for more.
A wonderful way to hear the Suttas. Lets get the whole thing up in readings... it will serve countless people

The eightfold path does not lead to jhanas (jhana is part of the path).
The eightfold path is the best of paths For it leads safely to the Deathless.
Sensual pleasure is not the path ..
Sadhu!
IT IS NICE TO KNOW HOW WRONGLY WE PERCEIVE THE UNPLEASANT PERCEPTION AS PLEASANT ONE AND CRAVES FOR AND BECOME SLAVE OF 5TH SENSES .
Eddy is so funny! haha
