The lpx chain is truly impressive for what it is. For those unaware, it is actually a reduced kickback full chisel chain. Ie safety chain. My echo 590 came with an LPX on it from the factory, and it had always cut admirably with it. I ran it like that for probably 15-20 tanks and put a Stihl RS chain on it. When the tip is out of the wood, there is no noticeable difference. The LPX, by the nature of a reduced kickback chain, slows noticably with the bar buried. But that's the only time it shows at all as the slower of the two, and it's only if you are paying attention for it.
That being said, the 24" bar and Oregon LGX chain (the EXL without an oiler groove in the driver links) seems to pull noticably better out of the box. I have only ran about 1/4 tank through it with that chain, and barely any hardwood, so I haven't run it enough to say yet.
The Stihl RS seems to hold an edge slightly better than the LPX, but the LPX felt easier to file, of course, my file is at the end of its life now as well, so that's another variable to potentially blame. I did grow up running Stihl saws with RS chains, and the Oregon chains seem to cut at least their equal. I'll be surprised if the LGX isn't a bit faster than my particular loop of RS.
It seems as though the Stihl chain is a harder steel, while the slightly softer Oregon chain takes an edge easier, files easier. I'll probably stick with Oregon as their chains seem to only cost about 2/3 what Stihl and Husqvarna charge for theirs.

Thanks for the info! I was curious as to the difference between the LPX, LGX and EXL chains. I bought an Echo CS-620P and it came with an LPX chain. Cutting speed isn't a huge issue for me but any future chains I purchase I may possibly lean towards the EXL.

But I love how fast my husqvarna chain cuts right threw the wood and I have just had to file it after a year of use. But I do intend to start running a file a few times after each or every other use of the saw.

Seems like depending on the wood, saw, and user combo the Stihl RS and Husky C85 go back and forth on whose faster. Watched a bunch of comparisons, and either the Stihl RS is almost a second faster, or sometimes the C85 is faster.

@@poparamiro no problem. I just bought my first ever "serious" chainsaw. I got a Makita EA6100P lightly used from Home Depot for $315. New Carb, new air filter, and came with 2 new chains, and a sqrench. Now just trying to do some research on any mods or upgrades I can do to it. The bar on it looks good, but I'll probably also get either a Sugihara or a Tsumara lightweight 20" bar too. Trying to figure out how to port/polish this thing, and if I can just do it myself with the tools I got. Wanna know what other upgrades/mods are possible...

Nice comparison video. Now the buyer has to decide if that 1.83 seconds (and less) is worth the extra cost of the Husky or Stihl chain. I can't speak for the Husky chain, but the Stihl chain is known for holding an edge better than the Oregon chain, but takes longer to sharpen too.

Well there is no challenge here. Husqvarna butter chains and Oregon butter chains are garbage the reason why is they have very SOFT TEETH and the stretch really bad always tightening the chain and they don't hold a edge very long. The Stihl chain is much harder teeth and don't stretch like the butter chains but they are a lot harder to hand file them. My friend just purchased a new Husqvarna chain for his older 66 husky with a 20 inch bar on it and ran that new chain 1 day of cutting he filed it 7 times and never hit the dirt and at the end of the first day I had to remove a link he was out of adjustment on the chain it stretched so much. I cut with my Stihl Ms 440 20 inch bar rapid super chain and I tightened it 1 time and never sharpened it all day. So there is no comparison at all Stihl chain beats them all and I have run a saw shop for 25 years. The Husqvarna chains are worse than the Oregon and they ain't worth a shit either. They only Oregon thing I own is there chain sharpener their chains are junk their sharpener stones are junk their bars are junk 1 rivet holding the pro nose on and they are always loose and husky bars are the same shit soft metal and 1 rivet cheap cheap cheap cheap junk. Why do you think they make that part so you can put a Stihl bar on a Husqvarna? The best bars out there are a Cannon super bar and a Stihl pro bar.
