Hi Everyone! The link to the pattern has been updated and instructions can be found in the video description. Please let me know how it works out!! Happy Sewing! - Sandy
Your directions are so clear! I like how you had the stitched version of every step to pull out and show. Very professional! Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I can't wait to get started sewing.
I made these mittens and I am selling them to raise funds for the Children's Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Thank you for sharing your pattern! These mittens are truly making a difference!
This video was so enlightening and it holds up 10 years later, what a classic. Thank you so much for your help! I am going to make sustainable Christmas gifts this year :)
This is so awesome - especially that fact that there are no ads and anyone can instantly access the pattern for free! Thank you and God bless you! Such great upcycling!
Hi Everyone! I was asked if I "felt" the wool before I make mittens from them....yes! I wash all my sweaters (no matter how much wool content they have) in my washer with the hottest water and I dry in the dryer on the hottest setting. This makes the fibers tighter and thus much warmer!
Thank you so much for sharing this video and making the pattern available! If you do use a wool sweater - don't forget to shrink it first for a great waterproofing effect!!
Oh my goodness Sandy! We found this online but the instructions were very confusing. So we looked it up and just by watching this once, we understood this completely! Thank you!
Thanks for your video & free pattern. I'm going to make lots of these! To the person who is printing the pattern at home...try making enlarged patterns at your local office supply place. Resize as needed for child or adult.
Thank you so much, Sandy for this great tutorial. It makes putting the mittens together so much easier. Thank you for the pattern. Your email delivery system works like a charm. I am so glad I found your channel. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and all the best in the New Year. I go to the Salvation Army store to get sweaters for a few different things I do with recycled sweaters. The more sweaters they sell the less that end up in the landfills and the proceeds help people in need. And I get to create wonderful warm things for people. I helped out at a Salvation Army Store for a few months and the clothing that doesn't sell get sold off by the pound, what doesn't sell that way gets trashed, and there is a lot of it. So if you are looking for sweaters, reduce, reuse, and re-purpose and help your community too.
Hi Everyone! I have been asked if the sweaters must be wool. No...you can use any other material as long as it is a tight knit. Try using corduroy or leather for the palm! Sandy
Wonderfully easy video. Thank you so much for helping us all to save money and recycle. I needed a pair of mittens for my commute into work and just made a beautiful pair out of a CASHMERE sweater I got at the thrift store for $3. THANK YOU!
Thank you! Your directions are easy to follow, and i like how you show us what it should look like when each step is done; not necessary to show us the sewing part, you give clear instructions and i shared this with some folks who may be interested. One told me they love sweater mittens! Thanks. I just found your channel .
Awesome video! 💯 Nice and easy to follow steps! Now I don't have to throw away my barely worn wool sweater and socks that my wife accidentally shrank! And I like how you put the thumb on the bottom instead of the side. I seems more appropriate for grabbing things and cycling
Thank you for your video! It’s very informative, inspirational, and straight forward! I’m about to go to my local donation center for damaged sweaters^^
Can't wait to try this. I found that I had to enlarge the pattern. Thanks for the video since I learn more by seeing than following written instructions. Elaine (from Illinois)
If you put the right side together you can place the cuff on the outside and stitch together then flip the cliff down, it makes the milton longer for slipping it inside the coat cuff for kids.
Thank you so much!! Bought a sewing machine and so excited to do this. Thanks for emailing the pattern too as I tried last night and the pattern if you just print is not big enough. Good first time try. May give to my niece. Thank you again!!!
Wow! This is a great video! That was fast, AND easy, and you didn't miss a point. I especially like how you had an example for each step. Thanks, very helpful! Kaleb
Excellent idea ind instructions are spot on. Thank you so much, for sharing. Going right now to get your pattern. I will be making these for the homeless in my area.
Love it very clear directions. I just started making them today. I watched a different video but after watching I keep making left hand mittens.. lol now I know why!
Dear erberry....pieces #1 and #2 make up the palm and thumb when sewn together. Piece #3 is the back of the hand and is sewn to palm after they are sewn together. I hope that helps in figuring out how the 3 pieces come together😊 Sandy
OMG I just figured it out. The curved #1 pattern will be sewn to the top of the mitten so needs to be curved DA! And I SEW would you believe. You are amazing to get back to me so quickly. NOW I can cut. Thanks for all you do and for the free pattern. OH and how will I make a pattern for a man's hand? Just add an inch all the way around for a new pattern? Thanks Sandy
Awesome tutorial, love the instruction . Once I found your video I understood how to assemble the pieces. I can't thank you enough for sharing your tutorial.
Excellent, excellent tutorial. Very easy to follow, quick, easy pattern. As Susan Galuski said in her comment, clean, precise, clear and minimum verbiage. Awesome!
I have been collecting wool sweaters for about 4 years. I guess I need to start making them. I prefer to use your pattern with the separate thumb piece. Thank you so very much.
Made my first practice pair and love your pattern best of the ones I've seen on TH-cam. Will do better on next pair, but at least this first pair can be my everyday take the dog outside pair. hahaha Thanks so much and your pattern worked perfectly. When I saved it from your site at Roman Cade Designs, the only thing was that the first one saved, but since maybe they were called the same, I couldn't get the next one, but no problem...I just copied and saved it to a word document and printed it from there. Thanks again so much. :)
That's great....thanks so much for sharing. I've collecting sweaters for a Katwise-style coat and have several sweaters that won't work for the coat, but would be perfect for mittens. Thanks again.
I was looking for a pattern to make mittens. You make it look so easy. I will give it a try and let you know how I did. Thank you for the pattern and the video in advance..

Best tutorial ever on youtube. Thanks a lot. :-)
You're great at explaining!!
Great - but I can't find the pattern on the site you mentioned. How can I get it?
Alanna, I use a sewing machine with a straight stitch. I will use a zig zag stitch on the cuff if I think the material might unravel.
Thank YOu for the quick response!
Very clever, thanks for sharing.
