    Thanks. When I was growing up in Russia in 1978, my Mom gave me this camera for my 16th birthday. Brings back some wonderful memories of - mostly - under and overexposed images ;) Shooting now with a Canon 6D Mark 2, mostly TH-cam videos and wildlife photography.

    Before you rewind the film you must turn the ring around the shutterbutton. This will release the "sprocketholder" so to say and allow the film to travel backwards into the canister without breaking. I've made that mistake off not releasing the sprocketholder my self, and it's very frustrating. After rewinding the film, make shure to turn the dile the oposit way to lock the sprocketholder.
    Nice video.

      Yes, thanks. I neglected to mention that. I have a Leica IIIf and there is a tiny lever dedicated to this purpose, but as you write, it is the ring around the shutter button for this camera. Thank you very much. Be well.

      What does the B and C markings mean on the shutter button ? I know one is for unlocking the sprocket for rewind but is there more to it or is that marking for the lever ?

    I live my FED 3 type A. The speeds below 60 are questionable. I don't mind I shoot in bright daylight anyway. I'd love frame lines for different LENSES.

    This video made me actually buy FED (4 in the end, i settled up for the one with the lightmeter) and despite remembering not to change the shutter speed without shutter cocked, I fiddled with it at least twice, now i am afraid I bloody broke it :D

      I'm sorry to learn your camera is giving you some issues. If it is any consolation, a replacement will only cost you around $40. That's not bad in the grand scheme of things. Wishing you well.

    I love the styling of this camera, it also looks like it would be easy to grip. Does your FED 3 have a diopter adjustment? Thanks for another terrific video, I look forward to new ones, and also watching older ones. All the best, David S.

    • @room111photography5
      @room111photography5  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, David. Excellent point. I forgot. Yes, the diopter is the knurled ring around the rear viewfinder. It is a fairly short throw, approximately 120 degrees of adjustment. Thanks for your always-kind comments.

    I have a question, how do I set up the iso/ghost in this camera? I can see the numbers and where the type of film is, but I don't know how to set it up.

    • @room111photography5
      @room111photography5  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings, Andrea VP. I have all my cameras buried in storage, so I had to rewatch this video to look at the camera body. In the olden days, there were no settings for iso. Most cameras, like TLRs, only had aperture and shutter settings. Let's take the Sunny 16 rule, for example. If you're shooting 100 speed film on a sunny day outdoors, a shutter speed of 1/125 would get you an aperture of f/16, hence the Sunny 16 term. For 200 speed film, a photographer under the same circumstances would have to deny an additional stop of light from hitting the film due to the greater light sensitivity of the film. This means the settings would be shutter 1/250 and aperture f/16 or shutter 1/125 and aperture f/22. The principle is called reciprocity. It just means adding or subtracting light. I'm not sure what you meant by ghost. A rangefinder uses ghost images for focus. When you turn the focus ring to a state where the second ghost image is precisely aligned with the main image - one superimposed over the other - you are focused. Hope this helped. Wishing you well.

    • @room111photography5
      @room111photography5  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Van. The correct way involves ensuring various settings are correct before rewinding. It's far too long to type here. Please search the internet for FED 3 user manual and one will appear near the top of the results. This manual will explain the correct settings for rewinding. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you.

    • @room111photography5
      @room111photography5  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greetings, Stephen. Please keep in mind N=millions and, in my case, n=1. That means the number of each camera in existence is in the millions presumably, and I tested one of each. Scientifically, this is completely invalid. But it's all I could do. I couldn't buy and test many of each to conform to scientific requirements. Thanks. Wishing you well.

    So you can't shoot 400 speed on it?

    • @room111photography5
      @room111photography5  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, you can. My point is that with these cameras and their tricky shutter systems, it's better to dedicate the camera to one shutter speed and leave it there. If necessary to adjust for light conditions, make the change through aperture rather than shutter.

      @@room111photography5 I think you're being a little overprotective about your FEDs and Zorkis. I've seen cameras that went through so many rolls of film that focusing rings on their lenses lost their paint cover and were completely polished by hands of photographers. But their shutters kept working as intended. Greetings from Russia ,btw =)
