    I am 56 years old and the tracks and slings were all in the barn but dad bought the baler about the time I was born,never saw it in action,very good video. Hay loader still sits in the trees

    My grandfather did this with a team of horses and his sons with pitchforks...after using a raker pulled by a single horse to rake the hay into a long row. Also one of the horses would pull the hay up to the loft with a pulley.

      As kids, grandfather and his brother would rake it and shock it into stacks in the field after cutting it with a scythe and raking it for a couple days to cure it. Then, in the winter, they’d hook the horse up to a sled and take him to one of the stacks loaded up. I’m guessing this is somewhere in the north Midwest or Northeast because of the haymow/loft.

    There are 3 reasons why lose hay is better than bailed hay.
    1 insulation
    2 because as it is handled via pitch fork the hay is cleaner
    3 it is great to jump from the barn rafters into.

      Wish you hadn't cut away... I've never seen loose having in my 70+ years... how does the hay get picked up? Understand the rope& pulley. But is it a claw?

      My hay field received an unexpected and unfortunate rainstorm after second cutting. It took 2 days for it to clear up. The farmer who cuts, dries and bales it told me it was ruined and they were going to simply spread out the cut rows and leave it on the field because it was no hood for baling. My question is: if they were not going to bale it could it have been dried out in the field and then be used as loose hay? Thank you

    • @Standardbredwoman04
      @Standardbredwoman04 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marthaprecklersmith1036 I now live in GA they just turn the hay over the sun gets so hot it does dry don't know where you live one thing you need to be careful of I'd spontaneous combustion in your hey if it is to wet that is why you never store your hey in the same barn as live stock.

    • @nailbender7223

      @@marthaprecklersmith1036 they could bale it and use for bedding with steers or dried off cows but the nutritional value is not there at that point
