    Having misplaced my manual, your effort really made it easy to service my unit. Thanks so much.

    Great idea to add the engine hour counter! I just ordered the same generator for power outages here in NorCal and picked up a magnetic oil dipstick and engine hour counter through amazon.

    Great video and reminded me I need to change the oil in mine. I bought this for charging RC flight batteries at flying field but have used this for so many things around the house and fishing. One thing to note on oil is the reason you want to change once per year regardless of hours used is automotive oil has emulsifiers in it which blends moisture into oil. Depending on where you live, it will absorb moisture into oil over time. One thing I noticed in manual was it specifies 10-30 on one page and 10-40 on the other.

      thanks for commenting and sharing your application. i have a video of a smaller generator 800/1000W and its only $150 and half the size. It would be great for RC battery charging too and so easy to transport. I noticed the same on the oil documentation. I am guessing that after the first oil change either viscosity will work.

      I saw that too on the oil weight but I just went with 10w-30

    You can buy the Atima oil change extension tube for less than $10 from Amazon. It threads into the oil drain spout and allows for easy draining without tipping the generator so far over. With the extension tube, there is no oil mess to wipe up.

    Thanks for the video.
    Just bought one of these and, being brand-new to generator use, found the video and explanations quite useful.
    Ordered an hourmeter and, based on Mowcowbell's comment, an Atima oil change extension tube and magnetic dipstick.

    Thank you for the video it saved me a trip back to the house from the barn for the manual. On some machines such as this one I use a piece of aluminum foil placed under the spout to direct the oil into my catch pan. It saves on clean up.

    Great how to. I don’t have this generator, but I would think it’s similar for other similar sized generators.

    So I just bought one yesterday and what I did was I put Castrol 10w-30 and ran it for one hour.... I dumped the oil and you can see the metal particles in the oil in the drail pan so I filled up with oil again ran it for another hour then poured it out again I did this 3 times until the oil had no more metal particles so now I'll change it again at 25 hrs.

      Fermin Valdivia Hmmm. Good suggestion. Makes me wonder if that has caused problems on a 2 cycle small generator I have. I certainly will do this on the new 2K generator I bought. Only one hours use on it.

    Hey, thanks for the vid. My understanding of the chart is that the oil change is every 8 hours of use. The 50/100 he are for brushing off the outiside and checking air filter.

      Rustie Salazar we did not change the oil for 3~4 months. Running it 8 hrs a day....bit do not take my word ...it was,black as tar. Do it more often. I would say. Once a month if you use it daily. Just my opinion. Great video indeed and helpful. It helped me. I am woman hear me roar. Lol 😉

    I never had a generator before. To me the dipstick is a waste of time. I just look at the oil level because the dipstick is all oilly anywY and so sideways? But thanks forshowing how to change oil and I didnt k ow you could use sy thetic oil. Thanks

    Any of the diesel oil 10w30 would be a bit better but it's really splitting hairs. I personally run Amsoil 5 W30 diesel oil. The above-mentioned oils are a bit heavier than your standard 10w30 weight.

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's a splash lube lawnmower engine and really doesn't need any sort of special oil. heavy oil would actually be a detriment because it wouldn't flow into the bearings as easily.

    Some small engine repair guy said you want higher zinc oil for small air cooled motors. Rotella came up. Coolant engines have different needs. I would not use Mobil one but it will still function I am sure. Dino Rotella or Motor cycle engine oil

  • @earthtears4850
    @earthtears4850 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    2 people saw me struggle with this. There is NO WAY to 'check' the oil. When you pull the dipstick, the oil spills out.
    You have to empty it, add oil to specs, screw in dipstick & leave it.
    So you apparently emptied some oil out after the change. It's messy too. Use shop rags, not paper towels..they spread the oil.
    I wouldn't use synthetic oil, but that's me.

    What do you do when white smoke is coming out

    • @jayfro8340
      @jayfro8340 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shut it off immediately. Pretty sure white smoke is oil burning in the cylinder. Over filling your oil can cause seals to fail and lead to your motor seizing

    The newest version doesn't require oil change at 8hrs. It recommends it after every 100hrs or 6 months.

      I would highly not recommend that I usually change the oil under 2 on new harbor freight motors and they always come out with lots of glitter in it

    You can buy a spout that doubles as a drain... threaded and has a rubber gasket. A bit pricey at $11, but sure keeps all the oil in the drain pan where it belongs... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077VJSJRB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Synthetic oil seems like a good idea. I wonder if that changes the maintenance schedule?

    • @danr97123
      @danr97123  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      in theory it should do just that. maybe the first change would be the same. however i dont think vendors will publish numbers for us.

    • @batvette
      @batvette 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tracy Hickman doubtful. The issue with oil in these little engines isnt breakdown of viscosity. Its combustion byproduct buildup and with that full syn has little to offer over conventional. Still use mobil 1 in mine.

    • @mowcowbell
      @mowcowbell 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since it only takes ~10 to 12 ounces of oil, not like it costs much to keep up the same maintenance schedule.

    I just bought a 2000 (Sept 2019) and my manual is different than yours shown. Break in Period on page 10 says change oil after 30 hours or break in and the chart you show has a check mark under Change Oil Monthly / 8 hours. The new manual ( manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/62000-62999/62523.pdf ) has that check mark removed! What manual number in yours? (mine is the 62523). I guess I'll change mine early at 8 or 10 hours... for the first two changes.

    Manual recommends two different oil weights, 10/30 and 10/40 ?

      good eye. it sure does. i intended to point that out, but clearly forgot. thanks for commenting. i think either will work and like cars your ambient temperature should direct your choice.
