Vox Mini 3 Go amp review

  • Here's one of the new mini amps from Vox. The Mini 3 and Mini 5 amps are discontinued, and this new "Mini 3 Go" sort of fits in between the old models, as they've added the rhythm function to the amp, whereas the larger Mini10 Go also gets a looper and more power. Its great that it's got a mic. input as well as an instrument input, and the rhythm function is really handy. My main gripe is the lack of an internal battery option - it doesn't take the typical 6 x AA batteries common on this sort of amp, nether does it have a rechargeable internal battery as seen on some more advanced mini amps. To power it you've got to use the mains adapter (included with the amp) or an external "power bank" and a USB type "C" cable, the sort of thing you use to provide reserve power for your mobile phone.

    Three things I took from this video.
    *The Vox is now on my Christmas list.
    * That CBG looks bloody superb. Love that blue!
    * I wish I could play like you.

      A) We've got the Vox in stock on our shop. B) We can make you a guitar like that. C) We have a "Learn To Play" class on 13th March in Bearwood, West Midlands..and there are a few places left! I think that covers all bases.

    Excellent thank you. Especially showing what settings overlap and how the control panel works. I've got Vox Valvetronix and I swear until you showed me that on the mini I might have never figured it out. Just bought the Mini-three for garage jam band this summer. Again, thank you!

    Hey John. I'm new to your channel and very much enjoy it! This was a great review and I need to get one. I loved your JJ Kale "Breeze" into. Have you ever posted a lesson video on Call me the Breeze?

    It's gonna be rechargeable

    • @ChickenboneJohn
      @ChickenboneJohn  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's not rechargeable, there are no batteries of any kind in this amp, so you have to use an external power supply, either a standard 9 Volt "wall wart" transformer or an external rechargeable battery pack.

    The ac30 setting on this with my strat is great! I can't even get that sound on vt40.

    Thats awesome,, I don't care if an amp is loud so long as it sounds good. I can't listen loud anyway as my ears get fatigue. I'm going to buy one from you. It certainly sounds good for cigarbox guitars.

    Nice to see a review of this series. Love your cigtar! I bought a Mini Go 50 with the 8inch speaker. The rhythm and looper, amp models and fx and the low power settings (0.5W, 5W) are all great. Unfortunately the Mini Go headphone out cab sim sounds very boxy and compressed (by comparison to my Vox Amplug Classic Rock, or Fender Mustang Micro which both sound great through headphones). USB does not have audio output. I contacted Vox about it and they told me to mic the speaker for recording good tones which barely makes sense on an 8inch speaker much less the smaller versions. While the Mini Go is great for private practice and busking, and maybe some band practice, it's not really practical for home recording.

    • @dsi76
      @dsi76 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you find the 8 inch speaker? I had the Mini 5 and the 6.5” speaker was way too trebly and the high gain amp models sounded like a bees’ nest.

    • @jimmyjames2022
      @jimmyjames2022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dsi76 I got the amp for a seniors residence apartment practice, I use the rhythm and looper on low power with some headphone out recording, it's way easier than building tracks in my DAW using (the better sounding) Bias FX2 amps and setting up a drum sim. The 0.5W low power speaker setting is pretty loud already, but I can't tell you how the 8" is at 50W, if it's boxy or not.

      @@jimmyjames2022 Thanks for the info. Have you tried the British 800 setting? How does it sound, is it any good, especially when soloing?

    • @jimmyjames2022
      @jimmyjames2022 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dsi76 As it happens the British 800 is my goto sim on the Mini Go, I always come back to it, not least that I like Marshall but it feels the least artificial. I solo mostly. You have to fiddle with EQ, Gain and Volume to get the amp sims sounding they way you'd like, and there's no "Mid". If you use headphones and Marshalls, IMHO the Vox Amplug Classic Rock still does a more satisfying Marshall tube tone than the Mini Go (or the Fender Mustang Micro. But if you like Fender amps the Micro is pretty good.)

      @@jimmyjames2022 Thanks again, that’s good to know about the British 800 a.k.a. JCM800 setting. The same amp model sucks on the Mini 5 until I soldered an external jack to it to use a Randall 8” cab. It actually now sounds great. Looking forward to hearing it on the Mino Go 50 one day!

    Hi from The Land Down Under John. 'twas your review that inspired me to get me one of those amps for busking. Love it, But can you tell me what battery pack you use. I have tried a couple and they dont power it up?

    • @ChickenboneJohn
      @ChickenboneJohn  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not tried using a battery pack with one of these amps yet, so can't help I'm afraid.

  • @ejvillanuevayt

    The power bank idea is a good one if you're likely to use the amp in a place with no power. You could have several powerbanks charged up and ready to go. Doesn't seem like a bad option to me.

    At Christmas I was looking at getting the Roland Cube to get a small battery powered amp. I could not find one looked into other options. Settled on the Vox Mini Go 10. Like all the options and only thing I need now is Cigar box Guitar any suggestions?
