It’s a fact not a rumour that If you have 19 Pokéstops and you want a specific Pokéstop to become a gym, The more photos uploaded to the Pokéstop will determine the one that upgrades. I’ve done it 10+ times now and it’s never failed.
It has failed for many people, though. It is no longer guaranteed, hasn't been for a while. There are other factors in play and we don't know all of them.
@@aeonsparkle I agree with you. But, I think it's important to note that both adding photos and liking photos are indeed proven to have an effect. But yes there are other factors and it's hard for anyone (other than Niantic Employees) to know if they have them all covered. Some factors I'm aware of are: - Showcase stops will never become Gyms - You can block a stop from becoming a gym by placing a lure on it at the time the game refreshes - I strongly suspect the presence of a Rocket (or Kacleon) might also block gyms if active during a refresh.
You forgot to mention: if you nominate a Pokestop in an S17 cell that contains only one other pokestop, and the other pokestop hosts showcases, then the one you nominated will become the gym
@@cyranoc4816 I don't know when they are updated, but assume its the same time that gyms get updated. But the density rule is one showcase per L13 cell. This is 4x bigger than the cells used for calculating gyms.
3:13 I had 2 cases: I made sure the Pokestop that I wanted to become the 3rd Gym in the Level 14 S2 Cell had overall the most different Pokestop pictures and most Thumbs-up in that Cell, before I nominated the crucial Pokestop for the Gym to appear. The first time it worked but the second time a random existing Pokestop with 1 Picture and 0 Thumbs-up became the new Gym in that cell. The only way I could explain it is that in that cell was another Pokestop with same amount of overall different Pokestop pictures and Thumbs-up in that Cell. So the game chose a random existing Pokestop to become the new gym.
Photo and likes (Votes) on the photos are the way to ensure its a gym, the one with the highest count will become on, I've done this personally over 10 times
Me too, that's the way to ensure for a stop to become a gym. Make sure that the specific stop got more foto's and likes than the others in the same "bigger" cel. I personally created more than 20 gyms that way.
This is how it used to be and may sometimes still work, but there has been other unknown factors also in play for a while already and this is by no means guaranteed.
Thank you for the Information. Wish i would have known before starting to create Wayspots. In a "underrepresented" rural area this creates wild results. 15 new Pokestops resulted in 5 new gyms (3 new spot with gyms, 2 old pokestop converted). But due to this obviously beeing a automated system the gyms are very "in the woods"... By the way, all 15 accepted wayspots were accepted within 36 hours (obviously without comunity-vote) and all became a pokestop/ gym. 2 outright rejections and 5 pending / in comunity vote. It was obvious from my own observations that the gym-creation was pokestop-density based, but really knowing the algorythem and grid is very nice. Now i will have to check the grid...
3:13 although there aren't much evidence of that being true online, i made a gym next to my area by adding photos + telling friends to get more thumbs ups (than other pokstops in the same lvl 14 s2 cell)
Gym selection among the pokestops are not random at all. I've done it multiple times. The stop with the most pictures will be the gym. If there are an equal number of pictures, the stop with the most amount of likes on the pictures will become the gym. Like I said, I managed to decide which stop becomes the gym and I've done it 5-6 times with cells having 6+ POI so it is not random or I was very very very very lucky.
Come on, Daxi, it's not random. The Pokéstop that is upgraded to the gym is the one that has more points than the others within that S14. Each photo counts as one point and the same goes for each like. So, a pokéstop with 3 photos where the first photo has 7 likes, the second has 5 likes and the third has 2 likes, it has a total of 17 points. If you want to boost a specific stop to become a gym, you need to upload more photos and ask your community to like each photo so that you can outrank other stops. I've been using this method for a long time to make sure that the more relevant places, like public gardens, plazas, etc, become gyms, instead of some random graffitis or mailboxes. The only one that you can't choose is when you just have one stop on an S14 cell and you manage to add another. The older stop will automatically become the gym.
@@Project_K-2 The older stop is not always the gym. I've had my newly added stops become gyms immediately before. I don't know what causes it. If I were to guess I'd say its when the old stop was lured or had a Rocket on it at refresh.

This was perfect! Thank you so much- now I can try maximizing the number of stops & gyms in the local raid & special event spot! I have noticed that stops have been placed in such a way that they minimize the number of POIs in the S2 cells in my local area- is there a way to get the actual location point of these older stops reviewed/edited so they are in an accurate position, but moved to a slightly different position on the map to free up an adjoining cell or cells & allow for other POIs to be nominated? ie. instead of one older POI/stop taking up 2 or 3 cells due to the placement of it right on the line or corner, it gets moved slightly into a cell, so POI's in the other cells can then be nominated & have a chance to become stops or gyms.
Location edits should only be made if the current location is inaccurate or not a logical point of discovery, regardless of what cell it may fall in. Wayspots are shared across every Niantic game, so moving one just to manipulate what cell it is in can result in warnings/bans
@@darren424242 That is exactly the issue- the location of the stops are close by, but not actually on the POI. Fair enough banning those that try to manipulate POIs for their own gain. @naterudamas3495 I suspect it’s abuse of the Wayfarer system. That is, even though two POI in one cell means only one pokestop is visible, if someone were to move a pokestop **INTO** an S17 cell which already had a pokestop, then both pokestops are visible. Stacked pokestops like that can happen that way. They may also happen if they happen to be approved at the same time.

we nominate 2 pokestops and it was approved but it's already a week now but no pokestops spawn in the area.. is there a way to follow up the nomination? thanks
@K2Zon3 Pokedaxi mentioned it briefly at the beginning of the video. Although the in game nomination process mentions that you would be submitting potential pokestop locations, this isn't exactly true. What you are submitting is actually a wayspot for Niantic's Lightship database. PoGo then decides on what subset of wayspots in the database to then use in game.
Anyone have an issue where your nominations appears in game then just randomly disappear? I have nominated a few stops at a public disc golf course. They get approved, and there is activity happening at the stops and gyms and now they are gone.
@@RDawson003 Niantic deleted them. Sometimes things get accidentally approved that never should have, such as individual baskets at a disc golf course. Once Niantic realizes it, they delete them.
@@RDawson003 Yeah, unfortunately that is a big no-no :( Sadly, Niantic has specifically prohibited disc golf tees. Only one Waypoint per disc golf course for the course itself is allowed, and if it has to be a tee, it should only be the first one representing the whole course. People still sometimes approve other tees as well as they don't know any better (or don't care, even if they did). It just means they sometimes get accepted, and Niantic removes them once they realize it. I personally recommend against nominating them as Niantic can consider it abusive if they do get accepted and they may punish you for it, either by sending you a warning (best case scenario) or revoking your access to Pokemon Go for a set period of time (for a few weeks probably but can go up to 10 years in worst case scenario). Not really worth risking it. :(
I always found player put their monters in the Gym around my town that I’m sure people in this town dont play pokemon go anymore. Are they NPC or computer or AI who put their monster in the gym?
I still want to know how to edit the pokestops so i can create clusters that break the stupid cell rules... 'cause in my city the POI are close to each other... and instead of having 4 different legit poi (4 pokestops, 3 pokestop + 1 gym, etc) in certain areas where we have public excercise equipment, statues, a fountain and a playground... we only have 1 pokestop for the whole area.
@@nikell6846 my advice is to not even try this, as its in your best interest that you won't. Unfortunately Niantic considers this sort of cell manipulation abuse and can punish you for it by banning you from Pokemon Go. It sucks, but isn't worth it.
@@shelt370 you don't. If it happens on its own, then great, but influencing it would not be in your best interest in this case as Niantic might punish you for it.
@@shelt370 yeah, it is unfortunate :( however, good news is that what you can do is that you can try making more legitimate pokestops in the respective L14 S2 cell and see which pokestops will become gyms as you can have as many as 3 gyms in such a cell. The third gym is triggered by having 20 pokestops in said L14 cell. If one happens to promote your home stop to a gym, awesome! If the gym count for that L14 cell is already full though, there is sadly nothing much you can do :( Also yeah, purposefully influencing a specific stop to become a gym might be something Niantic could take action on, especially if it gives unfair advantage to one player or group, which it in this case unfortunately would probably be. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

That cell crap is a load of bull look at Japan and or zaragoza basically you submit your stop commission hope you don’t get some douch that declines it then hope your commission makes your way into go and not one of nianshits other games
@voltagespark7341 Niantic has dealt with a number of other reported abuse locations. They have even wiped the gameboard clean in some places around the world to then let it repopulate following the cell rules.
The gym is determined by ingress. Whichever poi in ingress has the highest rating becomes a gym in pokemon go. It's definitely weird that another game effect's pokemon Go but niantic uses all the same pois for theirs games so there is some cross referenced criteria. If you want make specific pokestops become gyms go upvote them in ingress
@darkking4748 Wholeheartedly agree with klustxr here. Upvoting in Ingress to decide what becomes a gym hasn’t been a thing in a long long time. It is based on upvotes on photos. More specifically, the “score” of a pokestop is calculated by: (# of photos) + (# of upvotes). So a pokestop with multiple photos can get an even higher score by upvoting each and every photo. The other caveat, ever since they introduced showcases, is that showcase pokestops can never become gyms no matter how many upvotes it has. So unless things have changed - this is my understanding of what decides the new gym.

ie. instead of one older POI/stop taking up 2 or 3 cells due to the placement of it right on the line or corner, it gets moved slightly into a cell, so POI's in the other cells can then be nominated & have a chance to become stops or gyms.
I'm more interested in if there was a process to get older stops that are not placed accurately, reviewed to be moved to a more accurate IRL location, which it sounds like there is... So I'll look into it further, thank you :)
@@nixequestrian3721 you would need to submit a location edit request in game, it would then go through the Wayfarer review process to arrive at a determination. However be aware that there is an edit distance restriction of 10m max in game for PoGo.
If you need to move something greater than 10m then you will need to submit a Wayfarer help ticket instead. This will be reviewed by Niantic and they will make a determination if it needs to be moved and where to.
@@darren424242 Great, that was exactly the information I needed, thank you.
Massive change on system for Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon. Pokemon can be both max form outside Max raid battle. Battle in gym, raid bosses, battle with friends, battle in go battle league, battle with team rocket members. As in max form buddy adventure and on explore on the map.
I have two gyms next to each other, the next closest Pokestop is 300 ft away, and thats thw only other pokestop within like .3 km
Steps after steps after steps..
And then I realised my nomination is rejected..
I’m not level 37 yet on Pokemon go but I made the ingress account and setup IITC and made some Pokestops yesterday around my neighborhood but nothing is showing up in Pokemon go yet. Do I have to do something else after I add the waypoints in IITC? Or just wait?? I’m so confused lol
You need to wait for the nominations to get accepted, and even if they do there isn't a greentree that they will become pokestops and also it can take up to 48 hours
Did it work?
I got lucky were one of my pokestops got turned into a power spot.
I need someone to approve my nomination. there are 0 in my area. so i made 5. pretty sure it follows the criteria. 2 have been rejected. so fingers crossed for the other 3.. otherwise, still 0 in my rural area.
They'll get rejected, an u have to appeal them, an go try again
How does this make sense when certain places hace like 20 gyms and pokestops next to each other? They're not even sponsored pokestops or gyms....
They may also happen if they happen to be approved at the same time.
i think it's because the ones that were generated when the game was created don't follow the same rules as the ones nominated by players
Most of my recent nominations turned into power spots. What about them? How do they count?
How do we do this on an iPhone???
Same question
This is like the 4th time you made a video on this with the exact same info.
I'm level 38 so I can make them but I made my account with nitantic kids so I can't make them as it means I can't link anything to it or change it over is anyone can help let me know.

Your accepted nominations likely do not meet the game board rules to appear in PoGo.
@@darren424242 what is this game board rules? can explain please?
@K2Zon3 Pokedaxi mentioned it briefly at the beginning of the video.
Although the in game nomination process mentions that you would be submitting potential pokestop locations, this isn't exactly true.
What you are submitting is actually a wayspot for Niantic's Lightship database. PoGo then decides on what subset of wayspots in the database to then use in game.
@@darren424242 well i thought the nomination is supposedly to make pokestops not waypoint for their other games..hmm
@@aeonsparkle I have done all most of tee pads since they are permanent. There are still some there but others removed.

Ingress is not supported on this device configuration. How do I get past this?
So you cant do it on iOS?
nope time to switch to android =)
any alternatives for ios?
How do I make a Ingress account without downloading it? I can't download it because my phone system is too old
I still want to know how to edit the pokestops so i can create clusters that break the stupid cell rules...
My apartment building is a Pokèstop. How do I turn it into a gym ?
@@shelt370 you don't. If it happens on its own, then great, but influencing it would not be in your best interest in this case as Niantic might punish you for it.
@@aeonsparkle Ok thank you for the advice. Didn’t even know Niantic is that cruel.
Is Shadow Heatran good in pokemon go
I have 1 s14 cell with 10 Stops and zero gyms. And another s14 with 5 stops and 3 being gyms. The whole cell thing is confusing the sh outta me.

Hey are you supposed to max cp before evolution or evolve then max cp? Long run affects on max level of Pokemon?
there is no difference in the power of the pokemon whether you max it up before or after evolution.
I live in a rural area and Niantic won’t do any gyms or pokestops it sucks
It looks like they want to make crowded places even more crowded, while making the game even worse for rural players, who are asking for better support since day one. I really don’t get it, especially considering that lore wise it’s a game about finding pokemons in the wild.
did he even tell how to make a gym or just how to download the IItc map?

That cell crap is a load of bull look at Japan and or zaragoza basically you submit your stop commission hope you don’t get some douch that declines it then hope your commission makes your way into go and not one of nianshits other games
Japan has a lot of sponsorship deals in place while Zaragoza was the result of people abusing the system
@@darren424242 those aren't the only 2 locations
@voltagespark7341 Niantic has dealt with a number of other reported abuse locations.
They have even wiped the gameboard clean in some places around the world to then let it repopulate following the cell rules.
The gym is determined by ingress. Whichever poi in ingress has the highest rating becomes a gym in pokemon go. It's definitely weird that another game effect's pokemon Go but niantic uses all the same pois for theirs games so there is some cross referenced criteria. If you want make specific pokestops become gyms go upvote them in ingress
Ingress has no effect on gyms anymore, it's based on Likes/photos in Pogo. Has been that way for months now.
I got only fields around my area lol 😂 guess I can’t get any
just say that theyre "parks"
take a pic of a "rock" and make it important enough to be pokestop lol title it the street name and put field at the end of it.

Mine got accepted but used in one of their other games 🤦
Same. I don’t get it to be honest, why accept nominations in already crowded places that clearly don’t need more POI, and denying all rural submissions? What’s the point?
@@homunculus1984 it is because you are actually nominating something for Niantic's Lightship database and not PoGo per say. The database does not care about about cells, distance or density.
PoGo is just one game that uses data from this database to populate its gameboard.
