Chauvet Stage Designer 50 - scene programming with the DragonX 4bar

  • I had to program some "scenes" on the Chauvet Stage Designer 50 DMX light controller to work with the DragonX 4 Bar. Getting these two items to work together ended up being a big pain, but eventually I figured it out, so I decided to make a video. I tried to be clear and concise, but there were a few parts I think could be improved. I might make a "part 2" video that gets more in depth if people are interested.
This particular tutorial is sort of geared more toward a theatrical use case, but even if you are using it for dance stuff, maybe it will help get you going and fill in some of the holes in the shoddy manual. Feel free to ask questions/comment.

Good demo! I'd be interested in seeing "part 2" video that gets more in depth if you decide to create it!

Thanks for the tutorial, please I just acquire a preowned scene setter 48 but I can't get it to switch on the light.
It won't connect to the lights

Is it possible to have the lights fade between scens everytime someone just hits a new scene? Im having troubling finding out if this is possible with these boards.. just a simple crossfade eachtime i select a new scene. Thanks!

I doubt you're still looking for the answer, but yes: moving the "Fade" control down slightly (below "instant") should make it do this.

Everybody shows how to program the board but not one person yet has showed how to hook the lights to the board to get them to work

I had planned to do that in a separate video next time I had the lights out, but I guess I never got around to it. No real reason to use them since COVID started. If you have 2 bars, as in this video, basically you need to daisy chain them.
Run an XLR cable from the Chauvet Stage 50 (Light board) DMX OUT, to the DMX IN on one of the light bars. Then connect a cable from the DMX OUT on that light bar, to the DMX IN of the other light bar.
Settings on the DragonX 4 bar
You need to make sure that one of the light bars is set to:
      A001
      and the other:
      A016
This enables full DMX control to each of the 8 lights.

Thanks for the answer but actually I’m using the Donner wireless dongle‘s and my problem is I have one light set to DMX channel 1 and uses channels one through six I have another light starting on dmx channel 7 and goes through 13 the problem I have is when I try to put a DMX address of 14 on up, When I use the sliders on the board there in scene mode they don’t operate the lights

@@rusinjeff5959 When the SD50 is in scene mode channels 13-24 and 37-48 are unavailable to be used manually. To use all 48 channels manually the board needs to be in 1-24A mode. You can select between the two pages of 24 channels each by holding Record/Shift and Audio/Page A/B. The display will show which page is currently active. If you need manual control of the 3rd light while in scene mode I recommend setting the starting address to 25.

how did you get the bar in 15 channel mode? mine only seems to offer 3 (display reads 0.6-3)

You should be able to select full DMX mode on the bar by setting it to A.001 (first bar) and A.016 (optional second bar)
