Reduction and analysis of Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" op11, recording with Philadelphia Orchestra / Eugene Ormandy: • Adagio for Strings, Op...
Inspired by Sylvie-Anne Ménard (but I really cannot draw), please look her up if you didn't already: • Mozart et les fonction...
The analysis method I chose is a combination of scale degrees and general bass (thorough bass) figures: Harmony is the result of the intervals over the bass note (no matter if the bass and the root note are identical). And each bass note is put into relation with the (actual or assumed) key of the phrase, marked in encircled arabic numerals.
The results presented in this analysis are neither universal nor do they claim to be the only correct solution. But as one can see, it really works well with the piece for the most part and is especially delicate in the peak of the piece with its very dark double b keys.

Huh. In my version there was alcohol then crazy but hilarious antics, illness, nearing then returning from the brink of death, embarrassment, ostracization and, finally, dawning awareness of outgrowing the youthful ability to be a charming drunk idiot who doesn't annoy. A bittersweet melancholy sets in as the adjustment to drinking and antic-ing alone gradually becomes a much loved Sunday tradition. Wait, is that what your faces were conveying?
