  • This is Bronson and Mark's last set of TGIF spots for ABC. Perfect Strangers would move to Saturday night starting in February 1992. They would then record a couple of I Love Saturday Night introductions before wrapping up their seventh season. The other shows introduced in this lineup were Family Matters, Step by Step, a repeat of the PS episode This New House and finally Baby Talk. Several of these spots were redone from scripts from previous introductions and filmed anew because they wanted the actors to announce Perfect Strangers' move to 9:30 on Fridays at the end.

One of the most depressing parts of my childhood was hearing "I'm Hugh Downs... and I'm Barabra Walters" after TGIF was over and I had to go to sleep and wait an entire other week of annoying school to get to TGIF again.

I´m remember one time Balki and Larry hosting, they closing when Balki says "Now, It´s Time to Barbara Walllters and Hugh Downs on Tointy Tointy", Larry responds "No Balki, It´s Twenty Twenty". It Was Funny

What made these segments special is that every week mark and Bronson had to do a new rhyme that was consistent with the combination of episodes that were aired that particular week, even if all the shows were reruns. Later on, TGIF just did cutaways with the hosting cast voiceovers when the episodes were reran to save time and money

ABC's TGIF lineup for Friday December 27, 1991 (Balki & Larry's final time hosting TGIF).
8pm - Family Matters (repeat: The Show Must Go On)
8:30pm - Step by Step (repeat: The Dance)
9pm - Perfect Strangers (repeat: This New House)
    9:30pm - Baby Talk (repeat)
    10pm - 20/20
Bronson and Mark look done with everything, man. I think by that time (December 1991), they knew the fate of Perfect Strangers.

Screwed by the network: A bizarre case of this toward the end. Despite the series continuing to do well in the ratings entering the 1991-92; ABC had been reportedly trying to cancel Perfect Strangers due to rising costs and advancing age (7th season). By early 1992, ABC decided to transfer the series from its 9:30 p.m. slot on the TGIF block to an newly-created offshoot block called "I Love Saturday Night", placing it alongside aging one-time ABC hits Growing Pains and Who's the Boss? plus a new animated series called Capitol Critters. Inevitably, the series (which finished at #32) plummeted to #65 in the ratings, allowing ABC to shelve it. Ironically enough, they did so by sticking reruns at its old slot during the summer of 1992 (the series would be placed on hiatus and have its final 6 episodes burned off over the summer of 1993, over a year and a half after ABC moved it to Saturday).

@@JustinW06the last show on the lineup always just rotated out. Sometimes it was oK and sometimes (most times) completely forgettable.
So many great shows went through the various slots of the TGIF lineup over the years!

@@davidm4566The best shows they ever had in that 9:30 time slot was just the 10 of us and hanging with Mr Cooper.

      Ya...low energy and sporting a 5 'o clock shadow.
By this point, ~December 1991, I think the fate of the PS series was known.
And, Pinchot knew he was being upstaged on Friday nights by the new "Urkel" kid.
Once the star of Friday nights, Pinchot is here relegated to introducing a rerun of FM featuring Steve.

Damn, he's introducing Steve twice, FM and his cameo in SBS.
      Bet Pinchot was super peeved.
      Rightfully so.
Good on him for: being a sport about it, and half-assing this.
