You are correct to say the Vari-Mu is slow, however it is the release that is slow not the attack on these. The attack on a Vari-mu even in position 4 which is the slowest attack setting is only 800 micro seconds so less than 1ms which is still considered fast. You also mentioned using the FET style compressor to add "Punch" because of it's quick attack time, now this term "punch" can be used in a lot of different ways, so not saying you are wrong, but typically to add "punch" you really want a slower attack to hit the body of the sound and miss the transient, so that you hear more of that initial transient making it sound more punchy. That being said, punchy is a very ambiguous term so it really depends on what you mean by "punchy"
I really like the 609 diod by arturia on synths.. medium to slow attack and a medium to fast release depending on how it's played and adding the virtual drive in the advanced section
@@vektacularthe distressor is actually (🤓) vca. It’s also, however, an incredibly versatile compressor that can mimic the behavior of fets or optos or anything really.
Opto is faster. It uses light. If you are just using plugins, all you are using is a FET, due to the computer hardware. RAMs, CPUs, SDs, all made from FETransistors.
Why making videos for TH-cam? To inform/teach people about something. Please be informed regarding the subjects you're talking about. Don't make a video, just to make a video. (example: "I believe" this is based on the SSL 4000, "I think" from the 70's maybe). This just confirms you don't know what you're talking about, you're just saying stuff that other people are saying about these products :( #WhyAreYouAyouTuber Sorry, but im not trying to hate, im trying to filter out what info is constructive what what info is insufficient.

Go team 😅 seriously we did good with this one. It would have been easy to leave this video by the wayside. I'm glad we put in the work to finish it.
Putting this one in my favorites.
Great vid 🫡
Are you going to make any videos about the dbx style compressors? I have a dbx and would like to know how to use it.
There's no "dbx style", that's just the company that makes them and both 160 and 165 are VCAs.
❤handy video!
In which cases use an Opto or a Vari-Mu compressor on synths?

What would the compressor on an Avalon 737 vst be? Also what about something like the distressor? Thanks for the info, I wrote it down.
An avalon is optical, the distressor is fet iirc
@@pedrosilvaproductions thanks! I have an Avalon….just wasn’t sure what it was….thank you!

You must be trolling.
@@laceacalin no. I am wrong with this comment. FET uses electronics, and it is faster than light. Sorry. 😄
right, but it can replicate things, because sound is not that dense, they can keep the fast features of a FET
@@hahdanghongha7810 yes, that is right. And I honestly trolling sometimes badly. But not in this video. 😂

Bro... It fucking is. He is correct, it's based on the SSL 4000. Quit your bullshit.
bro he didnt even get anything wrong, he just wasnt sure about one thing. its a good video that intentionally doesnt get too deep.
