    Great video as per usual Keston. The moment you posed the question 1939 popped into my head. What an incredible year for collecting.

    Well done! I had stacks of comic books when I was a kid. Lots of fun. I am a professional artist and I share my paintings and demos here. So much variety on TH-cam. Cheers on a Sunday!

    Personally, I would pick 1938 and get Action #1, #2, and #7 (second Superman cover). Action #1 is THE grail.

      Hi Rocket. Certainly not a bad choice. Value alone, the top 3 from 1938 would likely come in 2nd only to 1939. And, for sure, if you are a Supes fan then 1938 is where the action is!!!

    I like to find other works by artists that drew for these comics at some point. Win Mortimer once did some issues for action comics, and those are ok, but he also did house of mystery #178 & #204, and i want those they look soo good

      Hi Zuffin. Good plan. Chasing a famous artist can be fun. I’ve learned about quite a few titles that way.

    Why not go to one of the later years you mention and buy up some back issues. Seems that starting at the Edgar Church house might be a good starting place…

    • @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842
      @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clever strategy Patrick. Yeah, you could visit Edgar and somehow get the Action 1, 'Tec 27, and Supe 1 if you're trying to maximize $$$

    • @ComicBookVeteran
      @ComicBookVeteran ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 Loved this topic of course! My quick reaction was the obvious one, but then I started thinking about it and for the big $$$ came up with the same year you did (no spoilers in my comment). I love my golden age books of course, but tend to be more of a silver age guy.
      So, theoretically, thinking this out further - IF one were to go to a silver age year, you COULD buy multiple copies of lesser expensive books, return to the present age and then sell them. There are only so many people who can afford to drop $1M+ on some of the golden age books you mention in this video. But when you go downmarket with a lesser expensive book the sheer number of people willing to buy it multiplies exponentially to a point - it's finding that balance point/sweet spot where you would find the most for your return. It's easier to find 10 guys who would pay $100,000 for a 7.5 FF1, than 1 guy who would pay $1M+ for a 7.5 'Tec 1.
      Besides, it's easier to find coins from 1964 to take back with you than it is to find coins from 1938 so that you don't cross the timestream and blow up the universe.

    did you include the atlas and horror books in the 50's? romance etc?

    • @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842
      @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Zach. I was relying on Overstreet's lists of Top 50 Silver and Top 100 Golden Age books. The atlas and horror books were eligible to be included there. Some great books for sure but not as valuable as the DC and Marvel books. In fact, the only non-DC/Marvel book I mentioned was Pep Comics 22 (LBJ Magazines).

    • @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842
      @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1940 is a badass year; the best for depth. I was surprised that 1/3 of the top golden age books hailed from 1940. In my mind, 1938 was the accidental genesis of the golden age; 1939 was the launch, and 1940 is when it hit its groove.

      @@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 My favorite books are from 1939 but my gut said pick 1940 because I've seen so many keys from that year. Great video!
