As interesting as this is, and it truly is, my favorite part is Shogo's clear reverence for the objects he's seeing and touching. How much it all means to him makes watching this so much more enjoyable than it already is. I'm grateful to Shogo's master for allowing the team and all of us to see all of his equipment.
I loved hearing Shogo talking about this experience in the end of the video because of how excited and happy he was. It touched my heart and made me especially happy and excited about this too.
I remember my first "experience" with a noh mask, in the inyuyasha anime when I was a little kid. While almost simultaneously finding that my favorite musician wore a kabuki mask thus opening my interest in Japanese culture further than samurai and fantasy movies
I've always liked the Oni mask that looks like a grinning devil. I especially like the ones that are made with really sharp angles, like where the chin is almost triangular and the brows are very thin and sharp looking. I'd like to get one of those made from a really durable plastic, like polycarbonate or something that can take some damage. For use as a protective mask during airsoft games.
Everything down to the smallest detail has such importance and signifies soo much! I cannot help but be in awe of everything, the team must have felt like they were in a wonderful dream being so up close to the performance and sensei's costume~ Such a rare treat indeed, and I am very thankful for sharing and I would like to also pass on my thanks to sensei as well, for if it not for his kindness, I would have not known anything about the costumes 💕
This is so cool! Learning about the objects and clothing used in a Noh performance, especially the symbolism, really deepens my understanding of it so I can appreciate it more. Thank you, Shogo and your sensei for showing us these things!
This is awesome to be able to see the dressing room of Noh performers and to understand the significance of each of the items used. Great insight, love it❤!
Thank you for another great video! One point really stood out- how the angle of the mask can change its expression. It reminds me of the actor in “V for Vendetta”- how expressive he made the character without showing his face.
So happy for you! I now want to see an actual performance despite the face mask still giving me unsettling feelings but this video helped tremendously to get over that feeling
I love your videos, so interesting and informative. Started watching your shorts then moved onto these fuller videos. Thank you all the way from Scotland 🏴

The more I watch you Shogo the more I learn about Japan's history. Also Japanese people and their culture, I hope you reach your 2 million goal you deserve it
Thank you again for taking me behind the curtain I feel like a special guest and have gained valuable insight to an ancient tradition all the best to you and your team
I've never seen a more interesting video about Noh theater up close. It's fascinating to see the sentiment, history, and passion that goes into the smallest parts of Noh, ranging from the attire to the performance. I think you picked a great topic to look at; thanks for the amazing insights and hope to see more of what you'll bring to this platform!
This comment section is probably the nicest and purest I've seen on TH-cam. No arguing, no dumb memes, just people making compliments and sharing their thoughts. Amazing.
I think the most interesting part for me was at the end when he said the exact motions you do change the expression of the mask... The mask obviously doesn't change so its fascinating how the deliberate body language recontextualizes it.
Great to see that you're training in nōgaku. It's an art that I'd love to see flourish again. It's exactly what a world hooked on hyperstimulation needs right now.
Reminds me of Balinese masks (Indonesia) and the Kelantanese masks (Malaysia) that contain spirits and you need to respect them as well before and after performance via rituals of welcoming and sending the spirits off.
Eee... that cute face is so cute I'd really not want to see it gliding towards me in a moon lit dark alleyway... One thing here that caught my attention was the pinewood flooring, just by the by.
Hello from London. I found your channel by chance and found it very intriguing and informative so I have subscribed. Have been interested in the Japanese culture for quite a while now and I do have a request if you would please. Recently I saw an anime called “Shigurui”, which really interested me. Having tracked down the manga and reading the whole story, I am now wondering if it has any base in history. I could not find any information on the subject and would like to ask if you could do some research and explain.
Hi shogo! I just had a question for you. I know this doesn’t relate to the video but I was wondering something. I know traditionally when you display a katana, the hilt is on the left to show that you mean no harm and trust your guests but what if I’m left handed? Would I still display the katana with the hilt on the left or would I flip it? Thanks
So they basically blind when doing Noh performance, i thought at first the eye hole in the mask is bigger but is not. I am curious if they have a spare mask if something happen to the one they used now.
So cool to see the 2 different types of Noh fans. I’m interested to know why there are 2 types. They use the chukei fans for full Noh performances and the fans that close completely are used for Shimai performances. Why is that?
Shogo Im really sorry to ask you like this, just read the news that kyoto got hit by worst crisis, and maybe facing bankruptcy, would you mind elaborate that for us?
Konichi-wa Shogo-San. Not quite a Noh question but related to repairs of Noh masks. I have three Noh masks, all made from lacquer. One has a crack at the corner of the mouth. How can I repair this or whom may I contact in Japan to have it repaired? The mask of an elderly man with sprouting eyebrows and beard is missing one eyebrow. I need to replace it, any advice? And yes, I know that shipping is prohibitive in costs these days.
from my experience, regular Japanese only express their feelings strongly with close friends and relatives. Many youtubers hide their face. Actor/actress in entertainment business are exceptions.
As much as I love Japanese culture and have respect for many cultures around our beautiful planet. Those masks scare me. Somehow my brain throws them into my clown phobia right along with mimes. Ugh.

I love Japanese theatre masks! They’re so beautiful. I love the way they’re painted, they’re nicely detailed but also look simple and clean.
This was awesome. The amount of mutual respect is endearing. I wish all cultures were like this.
Wow, the quality and details of videos have surely risen up, glad to see you guys make the most of your team!
This is so cool! Learning about the objects and clothing used in a Noh performance, especially the symbolism, really deepens my understanding of it so I can appreciate it more. Thank you, Shogo and your sensei for showing us these things!

Shogo thanks so much for taking us on this journey with you...this was super interesting...your heritage is so beautiful..
This is awesome to be able to see the dressing room of Noh performers and to understand the significance of each of the items used. Great insight, love it❤!
So kind and generous of your Sensei to share this close up and detailed view and information. Thank you, too!
Thank you for another great video!

Incredible. Thank you to all involved for making this possible.
Its so amazing to explore new cultures and trediions ..... This was a new experience....

What an amazing experience for you! The fabrics of the costumes are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing this!
I have only seen Noh mask's through a Joshi wrestler I like named Asuka in WWE. It's great to learn more behind the masks & why she chose them.
SHOGO was so excited, I loved it! 👍
first time seeing the back side of the mask just wow I felt the honor on that just to see it.
… such an amazing video, thank you so much!
I think the most interesting part for me was at the end when he said the exact motions you do change the expression of the mask... The mask obviously doesn't change so its fascinating how the deliberate body language recontextualizes it.
The production quality is amazing!
Great timing. I watched the first part today and wondered when the second will be released. Turns out, this evening. :)
This was such cool video:OO!!
Dear Shogo, I think you could make content about' Daruma dolls' and how they are made. I am excited to watch your videos
Beautiful costumes and theater space.
With this unique theater style there's Noh equal. 😉

Great to see that you're training in nōgaku. It's an art that I'd love to see flourish again. It's exactly what a world hooked on hyperstimulation needs right now.
It’s still one of the scariest masks I have ever seen.
This is so educational!! Thank you!
I will have to watch this on my computer. Hard to read subtitles on my phone. Appreciate your work.
Marvelously done Shogo!
It is amazing, and the mask is truly magic, it has a life of its own. Thank you for showing it to us!
This was extraordinary!
I never would of thought
Great Video! Thanks Shogo!
Reminds me of Balinese masks (Indonesia) and the Kelantanese masks (Malaysia) that contain spirits and you need to respect them as well before and after performance via rituals of welcoming and sending the spirits off.
Man your upload schedule and quality are amazing idk know how you do it shogo
Thank you!

Absolutely beautiful
WOW!!! Thank you so much!
Eee... that cute face is so cute I'd really not want to see it gliding towards me in a moon lit dark alleyway... One thing here that caught my attention was the pinewood flooring, just by the by.
Awesome! Great job!
noh music is awesome, biwa is pretty cool too.

Mask also roughly translates to nightmare fuel.
A wonderful moment of sharing.
Very elegant culture 🙏🏻🧿
What a special privilege. I feel that just the fear of dropping it would have made me drop it.
sugoi! i want to imagine that shintani yuzumi is wearing that mask...😊😊😊😊😊
Hi shogo! I just had a question for you. I know this doesn’t relate to the video but I was wondering something. Shogo-san please make videos about Japanese indigenous minorities like the Ainu and Ryukyuan people like Gackt-san and their languages.
So they basically blind when doing Noh performance, i thought at first the eye hole in the mask is bigger but is not.
I am curious if they have a spare mask if something happen to the one they used now.
WOW ,THANK YOU
It’s interesting that it’s meant too be a “cute face” while most find it scary as do I. I wonder why this used too be considered cute
So cool to see the 2 different types of Noh fans. I’m interested to know why there are 2 types. They use the chukei fans for full Noh performances and the fans that close completely are used for Shimai performances. Why is that?
J-horror: hmmm...new material.
Yep, for a long time already
Shogo Im really sorry to ask you like this, just read the news that kyoto got hit by worst crisis, and maybe facing bankruptcy, would you mind elaborate that for us?
When you put the mask on... my "Chucky" doll ran to me and hugged my legs and won't let go of me, screaming for help...😫
Domo arigato gozaimasu Shogo. Odorokubeki.
I should try to wear this masks in Japan to feel what wear it is just like samurai mask
10:00
I'm always ready to ask Shogo something!

There was a legendary sword ⚔️ named honjo masamune mr. Shogo please tell the history of ii
お願いします💙
THANKS :)
👍🙏
Very interesting video. Maybe it's just me but doesn't that mask looks a lot like kazu's face? 😁😄 Thank you all!!
Do you any japanese metal band?
I should try
Is it a Japanese thing to have such an expressive face or is shogo just an exception?
from my experience, regular Japanese only express their feelings strongly with close friends and relatives. Many youtubers hide their face. Actor/actress in entertainment business are exceptions.
It appalls me that the mask has a rank.
Have you tried the game called "the ghost of Tsushima"??
You should look or play ghost of tsushima
I saw these masks in sekiro💀
What’s up Broski 🦋.
I thought that was Travis Scott
Are Noh performers men?
Sorry if this is making fun of your culture, but that mask is completely different from ‘cute face’
Aka manto
I dunno, they look creepy.
As much as I love Japanese culture and have respect for many cultures around our beautiful planet. Those masks scare me. Somehow my brain throws them into my clown phobia right along with mimes. Ugh.
It looks like the ex wife.
