After the downfall in GTS rankings and turning to Need for Speed, Super GT is looking for new games to restore his sanity and find new places were his Super GT effect can be harnessed in it's full strength.
I would like to start with an advice for him: "NEVER. TRY. COMPETITIVE. PROJECT. CARS. 2. YOU. WILL. KILL. YOURSELF. AFTER. LOSING. YOUR. RANK. BECAUSE. OTHER. GOBSHITES. WILL. RUIN. IT. FOR. YOU. BY. DELIBERATELY. CRASHING. INTO. YOU."
I raced a x30 for a long time. I started out with a comer juinor kart, moved up to a yamaha junior then went to a x30 junior 2. Moved up to the unrestricted x30 then after racing shifter for 3 months the family quit karting. I had an italkart sponsorship through a local shop and was doing really well through the local series. Bunch of my freinds now race in a local spec bmw class and im nin the process of building a car, its been 9 years since i last raced...
In this sim you have to heat up the tires, and set the road with some rubber in options (or put realroad to 10x with some cars in it, use practice or qualy for this) It gives more stability and grip to the cars, also the oversteer it's more predictable, as it is more smooth.
The only experience I've had with karting is with rentals. Most recent being at Phillip Island, miniature version of the MotoGP circuit just next to the actual track. I remember it was banging on the rev limiter halfway down the main straight! A lot of fun, especially if you're a karting noob!
This is actually quite okay, i think. The biggest Problem i see is the Lag between Steeringinputs and Reactiontime in Game. In a Kart, it´s much about Reflexes and feeling through your Seat/Wheel... Cheers dude =)
It is so cool to find out you’ve raced karts! I’m 15 and currently racing in the junior rotax max class, I’m currently racing at LKRC (next to PFI) and occasionally the Woodthorpe circuit. I just recently got my MSA license, and I have raced twice in rookie racing. This reminds me when I tried a karting sim at kart mania at Silverstone, I crashed out on the third corner😅. Love your content and keep it up, I regularly play GT sport so they’re my favourite videos on your channel.
Turn 1 of your first lap and you can already see the unrealistic nature of this physics engine. Look how much steering lock you have midcorner to exit and for how long you have it there until the kart finally brushes off it's understeer...it's like the physics and the grip and ungrip of the tires are happening in slow motion. Even cheap rental karts are more direct and "grippy" than that.
3:43 smooth is the excact opposite against what you're supposed to do in the class i race in (formula mini which is a class that only exists in sweden)
glad to see we're on the same line here. What i find rather critical as well here is the weight transfer-ability on karts. In other parts, i'm struggling to calibrate my wheel to the game. it always seems to have a low input ratio for the first 45° on each side, at the start and end of the ranges. And we all know how important steering precision is here.
One thing i dont like about rf2 is the varying quality of tracks. Some are brilliant and others look really poor. Have you tried sim racing system in assetto corsa?
Is that how you sat in your kart? Any chance of an update on this sim or the other kart sims? Computers or more like graphic cards have made a big jump. How about race settings. When I ran a kart, a race was three 10 lap heats.
At Pfi SuperGT you need to smash the kerb under the bridge and at the penultimate corner I have been there before and I have my own kart and have won a couple of races and I have came 2nd place a lot
The problem is with the physics engine. It's been going on for the entire life of the rfactor physics engine and the issue dates back to the first version of the physics engine from the 90s: slides are very on/off, there's a seeming lack of front grip unless the rear is oversteering, revs often want to almost instantly spike to redline during wheelspin (unless you quickly let off the gas), you can't hold and maintain wheelspin and oversteer angles especially with racecars (instead it's more of an on/off thing) unlike real life (Netkar Pro does this fantastically), and vehicles often behave like there's no inertia during oversteer so the car turns sharply to the inside of the corner during oversteer as if it's simply turning really sharply rather than the rear rotating around while the car's direction of travel keeps traveling along the same path from before the oversteer happened. It's completely wrong from real life as anyone who's raced cars at the limit or even watched racing should be able to spot within a few corners. These issues have been buried deep in the ISI physics engine (F1 Ch 99-02, rFactor 1, GTR2, Automobilista, Project Cars, Raceroom Racing Experience) for almost 20 years now and still not resolved.
This is certainly interesting when I heard about this sim, but I was unimpressed when they said they would use rfactor 2. Having a look at this footage the only thing I can see that makes it better than something KRP, is the tracks are far more detailed. The physics obviously being from rfactor I was wondering how a much lighter object would handle but it seems to have done a good job. Also do you think it would be possible to mod some more tracks in to this? Thanks. I kart A LOT, so that's my opinion.
JB11 Ms hi! I would appreciate very much if you help me understand the thing. I'm a 20 y.o. newbie and haven't got enough time to practice in real life rn, so the only option for me is sim practice. Can you state that playing kart sims like this would improve my lap time and skills and help to get to understand how kart physics work at all? I know I'm too late to ask since its been 2 years already but you're probably into the karts and I hope you see my message
Very cool vid man. I didn't know you used to do parting irl. How'd you get into it, if you don't mind me asking? It might be something my nephew would want to get into, lol.
Kind of like my comment a couple days ago on your F1 video, it'll be fun to see you get better and maybe even challenge some blokes to some online races?
Ahh fair enough, would love to have a go on a proper focused 2 stroke kart at some point, although i'm nowhere near quick enough to be competitive in them!
Things I prefer in KartKraft: the coherent / consistent look between tracks, the HUD is more helpful at giving info that you otherwise have IRL (such as karts closing up behind you), and the kart selection seems nicer. It's also an evolving standalone title not a DLC so overall better for Karting given all the new content that they're adding.
I wish the AI drivers were more animated. Would be cool if they leaked on turns or glanced back like in real life to see where another kart is on the track
i am karting. not racing anymore since we do not have enough money, but it does not seem like realistc. especially the formation lap, from what i have driven every one of them wouldn't have been accepted.
nice video buddy love a bit of karting my self over at buckmore park its not too far from where i live also (just over the bridge) im not that quick being around 100 kgs lol(low 53's) i notice it does not show you the elevation change down the back straight very much as the sharp right at the bottom looks to easy and wide (im heading there this weekend for a charity event)
I used to do kart racing but I stopped cause of two things: 1. it is an expensive sport. 2. I was really bad. I was always 3-4s down in laptimes than the rest of the field. I get tired of paying about 40$ per race just to always finish last. Feelsbadman. Also I think just pure experience, driving is not enough, you need a teacher, someone who toughs you the art of how to drive fast. Maybe I am just very bad and feel free to oppose me, but I think nobody gets from total beginner to race winner by just driving around a lot.
Harles Bently I don't have experience in proper karts, but I think they're way too twitchy in pc2... idk, I just can't keep it straight to save my life lol and forget going around a turn. That being said I do consider myself a bit of a noob, but I don't think i'm totally incompetent
Wheel Spin yes but easily controllable in real life. It's very easy to maintain slides in real life karts but not in pc or rfactor 1/2 or ams. They all snap oversteer and snap back as if the oversteer suddenly goes away magically. The kart is darting across the track instead of it's backend sliding around in those games.
Please do Karting in Gran Turismo sport and this is awesome you doing karting in I racing as you are an elite karter yorself race craft god. Legend great work as always super gt really appreciate it and also l try to get up for f1 career mode stream :)
I have a love hate relationship with Rfactor 2. Some days it drives a treat, the cars perform excellent, the brakes don't lock up and the car steers beautifully. But then a few days later the same car and same track with no settings changed and the car handles awful? Anyone else have this issue and know why? I've tried turning of pc and starting again but same?
I've raced 125 shifter karts for 10 years I find karts in kart sims almost impossible to drive because they're so twitchy it's hard do drive them with your "finger tips" as you do in real life. I just find myself all over the curbs doing stuff that would break my teeth in real life 🤣
Wheel Spin Not the ones I've heard of. The ones used at E3 2017 to demonstrate Forza Motorsport 7; were around $100,000 at the time. Maybe they've gotten cheaper since then, but I don't know.
TheRealD4VID yeah in the f1 2017 live stream he said it. And yeah he sucked at racing but f1 is hard but im pretty sure he was good in karting haha. I loved the way Alonso use to complain on him during the races 😂
I raced him a few times in around 2003/2004 when we were both starting out. It was actually fairly even in the very beginning before his budget kinda took over!
Super gt you are class got me into forza after coming from more serious sims using a wheel and pedals and now I’m using a pad on forza and having so much fun
On a DD wheel the X30's feel pretty good, that is with the wheel at about 80% which on the 20NM small Mige would be peaking maybe around 16-18NM of torque, the T300 puts out about 3.5NM so would be pretty hard for that to produce that really stiff/direct feeling you get with karts in particular. IMO this Kartsim dlc is about as good as it gets, feels much better than AMS/PC2 karts or the AC mod karts.
To be honest this doesn’t feel very realistic, at least not similar to the rental karts I’ve driven and seen. I’m working on a good rental kart mod for assetto corsa, do you want to check it out when it’s out?
It's interesting that you're fast in karts and in fact won Club 100 Elite yet always seem to have trouble acclimating to different sims. I guess it's because I went the other way and started with sims and moved to karting so I always had the ability to go back to the visual and wheel feedback-only style of driving. I guess it stands true that some people acclimate well to sims and some don't regardless of what they can do in real life with G forces at play. You definitely see a lot of people that are fast in sims and are complete garbage when they get into a real car or kart as they can't handle the G forces and can't just crash into walls until they figure it out (or cheat).

If you can maintain a drift for a certain amount of time, you can initiate a speed boost. Just look for the little blue sparks.
How realistic? It is sunny in England! Blue Skies and all. Do I need to go any further? ;)

Great stuff mate. Big fan of the sim content/live commentary. Also someone needs to make a Rye House mod track for this!
Many thanks mate! Yep, Rye House would be a great addition, as would Whilton Mill.

wow this is a throwback and a half
You can’t really get a proper feeling at all for karting, the force it puts on your body is too intense for a game to simulate
One thing i dont like about rf2 is the varying quality of tracks. Some are brilliant and others look really poor. Have you tried sim racing system in assetto corsa?

What chassis did u have and what engine in karting and u race in super one?
I raced in Minimax and Junior Max at club level, never did Supers. I had a Select chassis!
What sort of kart would you say the rental one is closest too? I've driven some 270cc sodi kart RT8's and it looks quite similar to them!?
Hard to say but probably not too far off a sodi kart.
Ahh fair enough, would love to have a go on a proper focused 2 stroke kart at some point, although i'm nowhere near quick enough to be competitive in them!
Who else thinks super gts voice is awesome through the head set lol
Have you tried kartkraft to compare to? I'm jumping between that and this and having a lot of trouble deciding what's more authentic

Hey man, amazing video, glad YT recommend it to me.
I have a question, what HUD do u use ? :)
I did a bit of karting in TAG karts when I was like 12-14.. loads of fun. Are shifter karts still a thing? I remember those were fast af back then
S2kTi Yep they are (0-60 in 2.5 seconds)
Did this feel better than the karts in Project Cars 2? Those were super twitchy.
GTR Merginator Real karts are VERY twitchy.
DRIVE MAN JUST FUCKING DRIVE... I was lazy with the intro.. sorry

PC2 has some shit kart racing... kart just randomly bogs out and almost dies all the time. "Oh you slipped slightly itd be a shame if i died"
Harles Bently It hardly bogs out for me. They're not exactly like the real thing, but they're not bad tbh.

Crash Team Racing is the best Kart sim.
You should do some karting vlogs
Bought this alongside with the Formula E pack but never ever used it since because everyone races ONLY GT3 and Inever found a league.
Hey steve how comes you didnt upload a video of rye house was really looking forward to it?
I will be uploading very soon.
Great looking forward to it do you have any footage of shennigton?
Is chase cam any good on this game? I know it's less authentic for a sim but it might help you to judge oversteer better.
Not tried it but nor do I plan to. I will only use cockpit on these kinds of sims.
Next: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
On a serious note, I think you’d love a bit of Grand Theft Auto 5 racing! Imagine Forza, then chip off a few thousand IQ.
You need to invent a seat that gives you the feeling from in the game for maximum performance
LKnight126 Seats like that do exist. However, they cost around $100,000; so the majority of people can't afford them.
vibrate your floor apart
Boostilia BJH L $5,000**
Wheel Spin Not the ones I've heard of. The ones used at E3 2017 to demonstrate Forza Motorsport 7; were around $100,000 at the time. Maybe they've gotten cheaper since then, but I don't know.
Can u get rFactor2 on console coz I drive Buckmore all the time and it would be good practice
Owen Pelletier hell no. Project CARS 2 is about as close as you'll get.
Ohh yeah u said u used to race Jolyan Palmer in karting
Little Light Is this a joke? Don't tell me Jolyon was quicker in karts, cuz he sucked in F1 even after daddy's contacts and backhanders!
