Fairly common circuit.. If you want to experiment try 100 k for the fixed and ~500 k for the variable. The cap a common 400 volt around .1Uf. should work. (must not be polarized or it can explode. ) should get you close. Make sure the cap is at least over 200 volts breakdown voltage. db3 diac (about 35 volt trigger point.) almost any diac will work). and 400 v 6 amp triac should work. You can play experiment with the caps .01 or .1. Be careful you are dealing with line voltage.
I think R1 is used to reduce current in the control circuit. I think variable R2 acts as a voltage divider. Varying the voltage I believe will change how fast C1 charges and how frequently the DIAC sends a pulse to the TRIAC gate. I'm a beginner so IDK if I'm correct.

C1 must be bi polarity.
Do not forget the snubber parallel on triac, if you really want to build the circuit
