Sunset beeing nicer would defeat the point of the story and wouldn't make for much of a story, since there wouldn't be any character development. The entire plot is build around sunset actually becoming nicer and making friends, her just already beeing nicer would well destroy that, and wouldn't feel as nice since well she did spent her last three years beeing a tyrant, just immediate change really wouldn't make all that much sense. And for more romance plot, read the sequel to it on fimficton.

I think the fanfic would have been better if sunset was nicer and there was a romantic plot with the human twilight.
Sunset beeing nicer would defeat the point of the story and wouldn't make for much of a story, since there wouldn't be any character development.
