Happy Sunday everyone (or whichever day you're watching this)! Hope y'all are well. I'm back with a laid back podcast episode for you today. We're revisiting some projects from last week and I'm giving you an update on the "mama blanket". It's officially DONE! Also, I had something adorable delivered and I want to share those with you....and to top it off, I'm giving you a behind the scenes craft room tour since I've recently done an organization overhaul on my closet. Get comfy and enjoy! Thank you for watching. ❤

I harvested 12 shirt shell buttons from my late father's woollen one piece, when he had gone to America in 1950. Used them for my daughters cardigan. They are beautifull!

Awesome that you finished the blanket! 🎉 smart idea to get rid of the few rows of SS.
I love the new organization in the closet too! I feel the same way about organizing. It makes me feel so much better if everything has a place. ❤ Love it!

Your comment about being organized keeping you calm made me think of Gretchen Rubin! I don't know if you've read any of her books, but Outer Order, Inner Calm is great. She really breaks down WHY we feel better when things are organized and HOW to build habits to keep things organized. All her books are delightful.

This sounds like a great read for me. I am very much that sort of person who NEEDS organization, order, and a clutter-free environment to stay centered and calm. I think most benefit from this, even if they don't embrace it in the same way. The whole idea of everything in its place and a place for everything is something I truly live by and it really helps to calm the noise. ❤

Anyone who has their grandma's sewing tin knows that buttons travel through time and generations, so those buttons might well be heirlooms one day. Wear them in good health and don't forget to harvest them once the cardi wears out!

I really love this episode! Your blanket is lovely and looks so warm and cozy, I love the way you combined your yarns for that cute marled look, and your studio looks so warm and inviting. Those buttons are adorable, and I’m glad you held each one up so we could see them! I always enjoy watching your podcast early in the mornings when I’m having my coffee - they really set the tone for my days to be calm and peaceful as I sit and knit or crochet. Have a lovely day! I loved the office tour, and especially what you did with that closet! For me, with organization, it's too easy to forget what I have when it's inside a drawer or cabinet - it's out of sight, out of mind. So the labeling is a good, neat solution for that. Inspiring!

Noooo Taylor! He needs the front logos of his Tee shirts for a memory tee shirt quilt. However, you can then use the non printed back of tee shirt for tee shirt yarn. Save some pieces of fabric to fill around quilt blocks of the least favorite colors or multiples of a repeat color.

OCD has nothing to do specifically with cleaning or 'type a'. Sometimes compulsions can be cleaning related, but it is not a disorder focused on cleaning at all.
According to the national institute of mental health, "Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common, chronic, and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts ("obsessions") and/or behaviors ("compulsions") that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over." While this can present in cleaning compulsions, it has as much to do with the disorder itself as knocking on wood or checking a lock.
Please stop perpetuating this connection between liking an organized space, cleaning, etc with OCD, it is harmful and misinformation.

I'm turning 50 this year. The fact that your vintage yarn has held up for 50 years and still looks great is quite heartening ;-)
Also - wrt some comments below, I have OCD (not cleaning related). I understand why people still use the term OCD in their general vernacular wrt being orderly etc and I probably used it that way myself before I was diagnosed. OCD is quite horrific though - it really is.

Talking about old stuff and buttons. When I go to the second hand stores, I look through the clothing and keep my eyes open for anything that has really cool buttons. If it's something I can't wear or is ugly, but has cool buttons, and it's cheap, I buy it and cut the buttons off. I also go to the yearly big fair size gathering of antiques and collectables and buy cool buttons from them. I love your new buttons and they are going to rock your cardigan! Right now I'm making the Stillness Shawl by Helen Stewart. I've made it before, but I needed to knit something that wasn't a sweater to get a break. I have some one of a kind skeins of yarn, so I've put 3 different yarns and colors together for this shawl. I'm trying to get my stash knit down low. Thank you for sharing all the things.

Some of those T-shirts might be highly collectable and worth some money. You might do some research on them first. Who knows, you may be able to sell a couple and buy some really large sized T-shirts to use for yarn or pick up some premade T-shirt yarn.
Loved seeing your closet update and room tour! It's an amazing space!

29:25 Tayler, The blanket you made for your friend turned out wonderful! I am so glad you reworked it without the tassels. I am also inspired by your closet redo/updo; what a fabulous idea to open up that space into your room!

Thank you! I am growing it out, but I had to have my mom trim the bottom to get rid of some uneven mullet action taking shape 😂. Now it's like this little wavy bob. 😊. Thank you for the compliment. That really helps when you're in a state of in-between styles.

Amazing post today! I love the blanket--you did a great job. We always find work-arounds! Those buttons are just so delicate and elegant. Your Eileen bag looks great--that tape yarn is coming in very handy for both projects. What a terrific job on the closet/work space! Love what you did with that. I am not the most organized person (that would be my husband), but when I feel like life is out of control, I do clean and organize to help me feel better about life in general. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful all the way thru the video - blanket sans tassels, MAL projects, buttons, work space, dog cameo!
Tee shirt yarn is so soft but I find it hard on my joints because you really have to tug on it for crochet items. Had a few old band tee shirts when I worked at the old arena in Winnipeg. Not sure what became of them however I have a few treasured pins - Bowie's Let's Dance tour. Found a sweatshirt from a U2 concert I went to in Minneapolis and framed it. Good times!

Love the baby blanket and office tour 😄😄😄 as for your brother’s t shirts. I’d recommend you do some research first. There are band t- shirts worth hundreds of dollars. Crazy I know but there are collectors out there who will pay big bucks for a vintage t shirt. Hope you find some $$$ in your brother’s shirt drawer. 🤞🤞

Your craft room/creative space is so colorful and cheerful. Love it. And I'm in love with your colorful area rug! Your paintings are impressive. You're so talented. Question, where do you usually sit and knit? Craft room, living room, bedroom? On a couch, chair or table? My favorite place is on the couch in my living room watching documentaries or true crimes. Great video as usual Taylor.

You could save the front of your brother's shirts and make him a quilt! You just have to interface them and add dashing around them so they don't stretch. Perfect something old to something new. :)

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS

This sounds like a great idea...however you had me sweating with "you just have to interface them and add dashing around..." As one who can barely sew in a straight line, this gives me pause. 🥴. I need to work on that.
