I went to the website and the Cut bar is the piece that the blade cuts on, this is what it says.
When the blade no longer rolls smoothly or loses precision
(and you tried changing blades) it's time to rotate the
cutting bar (that strip that runs under the blade). Use the
finger indentations by the strip to easily pull out the strip.
Turn the strip 180° (don't flip it yet) and push it back in
place, you're ready to go again. Each side of the bar can
be used 2 times for a total of 4
    changes before replacing.

Holy Cow!!! I spent an hour trying to figure out how to use it...that crazy blade is confusing. I may have dulled it already. Then spent another 30 minutes trying to find a YT review on this paticular trimmer. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for your review. Makes me love mine even more. I'm so glad that I purchased one. I was using one with the blade also and could never get a straight cut.

Thank you so much for your help! I just bought the version of this that says it came out in 2016. I like the markings on yours better, but I am gonna try to use it again using your instructions. I was becoming frustrated with the markings so much! You have helped. Thank you!

Thank you for this informational video. This is my first paper cutter I was shocked that there were no instructions in the packaging. Even Fiskars website had minimal information on proper usage. So thank you for demonstrating and now I'm ready to start "playing." Hugs!

Thank you for the review. I have the trimmer with the wire and I hate it. I’m so happy with this one and now that I’ve seen your review I much happier. When you showed how to measure that helped a lot. I have the bigger trimmer with the 2 rods that hold the blade housing, but wanted something not as heavy and big. The con with that one is it folds out between 5.75” and 6”. It’s hard to get an accurate 6” cut, but it cuts straight every time.

I appreciate your honest review. I have had both cutters. I no longer use the rotary cutter. I loved it at first, but felt I was changing the blade way too often. I did not like the shorter base. I have the other trimmer you reviewed and that is what I currently use. I am not 100% in love with it. I am still looking for a trimmer a love. Maybe in 2014 I'll find it. Thanks Jill

I love my fiskers rotary cutter! I think they took some advice for measurements... I just got mine in 2016, so, it's a little different. I don't care for the now, all orange swing out arm. But, I do believe, I can paint it... I also had the other one. I do love the decorative blades as well. The Perforation blade is Great if you're doing something for a child.

Thanks for the in depth review. I have 3 fiskars trimmers - the procision rotary bypass and the one in your "unfavorable" review and a smaller one. I also have the stampin up trimmer. I like my BIG procision Fiskars the best because it delivers the cleanest cut. The con is that thing is huge. Especially since i only do A2 size cards. I liked the fact this trimmer in your review would probably give a clean cut, but the guessing at the key cuts for A2 cards is a problem. I guess the designer didn't think about card makers. I'll have to really think about it before buying. Thank you again.

I agree. I love thevrotary wheel, but the base is too small and it doesn't have 5 1/4 measurement which is important. I wish I had gotren the one with the wider base. Great review.

Thanks for the review Amy! The cut bar is the strip that the blade cuts into and needs to be replaced after a while. I don't have this trimmer, but it looks like a pretty nice one!

Maymay, I must agree with you. I have the older fiskars rotary trimmer thats large and gray. I bought it a couple years ago at sams for about $40. I never really liked it because it is so bulky and I never got a straight line every time. The blade is on the outside and at times the wheel can slant inwards. I then got lucky and found the rotary trimmer similar to the one you have that was sold at M's. It's a little wider with no swing arm and I really like it. I love the fact that compared to my other its light as a feather, and I always get a straight cut because of where the blade is. What makes it even more special for me is the fact it was one of the M's penny deals, the only one they had in the store stuck on the top shelf in the back of the store on the clearance isle and it was originally priced $89. I guess it was just my day. I have a small xacto guillotine which I hate because it NEVER gives me a straight cut. I bought it for card making, but even when I only want small cuts it really sucks. I also got one of the recollection rotary cutters when M's pennied them out, but I have only used it once, it really is more complicated and bulky. I rather just pull out my fiskar.I can say that I did love my little provo craft cutter. I used it until I wore it out. I hope this helps others who are looking for a cutter as well.

Thank you for this. I bought mine Saturday at Hobby Lobby. The one thing I've noticed is that my cuts seem to be wavy. Am I doing something wrong? Could it be I need to put my hand on the clear plastic piece to keep it more stable? Any suggestions are welcome! Karen, Ponder , Texas

i bought a fiskars after watching this review. and it really performs well and I have dished out alot of punishment on it as I cut alot of paper for paper beading. In the 4 months Ive had it I have changed the blade already. The only con for me is that the black lines are wearing away.

I enjoyed hearing your review. The base and swing arm are the stopping points for me at thus time on this trimmer. I have your previous trimmer with the larger base and really like it however I would love some of the features you mentioned on this trimmer. Maybe there will be a hybrid with the best of those trimmers. Hope you have an awesome day. Hugs, susan

so to reiterate your response to CandiKCan; there is no groove or ditch under where the blade rolls so if I'm cutting a semi-heavy card stock the edge of the card stock won't be 'turned down' it would remain flat; correct?

I picked it up on amazon for 35.99 and that qualified it for free shipping :) Also figured out what that finger hole is for. its to get in and pop out the cutting strip. its made to be flipped 3 times before getting a new strip. I used it the other day and it cuts beautifully!! so happy!

Super great video, thanks so much! I will never buy another Fiskars paper cutter with one of those swing out arms. The one I had has the same problem at the 7" mark. I think what they meant by "self leveling" is that once you swing out the arm, the ruler on the arm will align with the ruler on the cutter.

Thank you for this review. I have the other one that you showed and am very unhappy with it but I did receive the new double bar rotary cutter for Christmas and am totally in love with it for multiple cuts and chipboard - it goes through like butter. But I still need a smaller one for card making and matting. This might be the one I am looking for.

    • @MaymayMadeIt
      @MaymayMadeIt  10 ปีที่แล้ว

I would really look for one with a wider base for card making. This one makes it really hard to measure those 4 to 6 inch cuts. Other than that it's good. And I hate the crooked cuts from the other one. I would love to hear more about the one you got for Christmas.

Thanks Amy. I am going to do a review on the new one in a couple of months..like you did I am going to use it and then do the review. And glad I watched your vid because yes that missing measurement at 5 1/4" will be a problem. But I do like the rotary blade a lot better..your cuts were nice and straight!

  • @mgammyraz1

I think the cutter bar may be the strip the blade runs down. The strip does wear don't after a while due to cutting. I do like your reviews. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the review! I am a trimmer geek. I have so many trimmers.
I'm glad you mentioned that the other trimmer is known to cut crooked because I thought it was me. But, I do love the wire on that one.
I got the WRMK trim and score and not quite sure that I like it especially the trimmer. What I don't like about the trimmer is the guard you flip back to align your paper to. The paper slips under the guard. I am going to play with it some more before I totally rule it out. Tracey J.

Hello, I really like your review, I realize it’s a few years old. I don’t know if you read these comments, I hope so. I am looking at this trimmer too because I have the other one with the regular blade and it doesn’t cut straight. But what I want to ask you, will it cut a really thick paper like 140 lbs which is watercolor paper? A thicker cardstock is about 110 lbs. So thats what I need to cut 140lb paper, and I looked at guillotines, but don’t care much for those. Other than that there is the really big Fiskars, with the 2 bars, that blade you don’t even have to change it, it sharpens itself. I’m sure that will cut very thick paper, even chipboard. But it’s really heavy, and $72, so if I could get this rotary one would be great. Thank you. 😊

Why don't you use a permanent marker and put a dot where the 5.25" mark would be? I have that same trimmer and I totally love it. I can cut card board with it easily. I've been using it for a year now and haven't had to change the blade. It still works like new. Maybe I don't use it enough...lol. I know we will all find things that we don't care for on products but for the money we put out for our tools we better find a way to make them work. tfs hugs, Debi

I could, I just really wanted to give a clean review of the trimmer. It is just really tough to measure at the mark without making some "after market" adjustments. I really appreciate your suggestion. I too think it cuts like a dream, everything I have tried cut so easy. It's just that measurement that gets me. Thanks so much for watching!

  • @pamdrmac7389

I was having problems cutting accurately with my Friskar rotary cutter. I have a different type and I am not fully happy with the accuracy of the cut. I am careful to put the paper to the number on the left side that I want to cut my paper[if it is beyond 3 or so "]. for example if I wanted a piece to be right to left 5 inches I would put it on the 5inch line on the left when I extend the arm. [My arm is full up and down the left side of the cutter and measures out to 15 inches-- the problem is that the arm is orange and so are the numbers. that makes is hard to see the number on the ruler, so I rubbed a pencil over them so I could get an idea of the numbers.] So yes I did take that into consideration and was careful to make sure I lined up on the correct number. My problem seemed to be that when I cut then I measured what I cut it was approx 1/4" short. ie if I wanted 5-3/4 I would get 5-1/2. Curiously when I looked at my indentation mark from the cutting, I found that as well as my cutting arm does not have a locking mechanism] any suggestions??? thanks for any help

+Mb Arsenault Sure, the numbers to the right of the blade are for measuring also. I find that if I need to make a small cut, say half inch or less lining up my paper on right side gives me more room to hold the paper steady. Basically, imagine you are using it the same as the left side just for shorter increments. Make sense?

    • @BUNNIFER10
      @BUNNIFER10 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Mb Arsenault thank you very much for answering right away. That's what I thought it was used for but everything seemed to be cut on the left side. You are doing a great tutorial for everyone - Thanks again.

it doesn't cut right at the plastic thing. I tried cutting a page of cutouts from a page and I couldn't cut right at the lines. I had to cut everything twice and lost a bit of the images. you have to rely solely on the measurements of the cutter. I am torn by these trimmers because of the measurements. I was cutting all of my cardstock into card bases and using up too many blades. which is why I bought them he rotary one. only to find out it only goes to 4.25 inches. maybe fiskars will make a new one in the future that has both features.

It's not easy, you know, I wouldn't want to use this rotary style to cut frames. I think it would be impossible to get them just right. Just my opinion, maybe someone here knows more about that.

+CandiKCan it's not you, there isn't a groove for the rotary blade. It will just roll across the cut bar. It's the white strip
Under the blade. The blade will eventually groove the white bar but you can flip it up to three times to use that bar before you need to replace it. You can buy replacement bars for it. Hope that helps!
