I love that you flip the grunge over. I don't like that gungie look but I love the colors and have a couple of grunge charm pack. As the old saying goes "you bought both sides" now i'm going to be flipping over the grunge. I love Fairy Frost. I have yards and yard of the Snow and the Ivory. Those are my 2 favorites. Love the video!!
+Robin Marcum Ah yeah, I love that about Grunge and I definitely have a soft spot for Fairy Frost! :) Thanks for watching!
Hi, Rob, I love your tutorials. They are very informative, full of useful ideas and tips and above all, your enthusiasm and obvious joy in what you are doing is really infectious. I call you Rob, my crazy, fun tutor. Watching the video was the easy bit and now comes the much harder part, the actual doing. You have enthused me too.Thank you, Maria
Thank you so much for your kind words, Csia! I'm so happy to hear you are enjoying the tutorials!
Love the freedom of this project.
Rob, one of most favorite tutorials by you. Thank you.
+Arzina Alani That's awesome to hear! Thanks for watching! What colors will you use on your version?
stop talking so much
Rob, you are the MAN !!!
I absolutely love Improv work. Traditional quilting is sweet and some patterns are going to be made be me , BUT being a seventy’s girl I love abstract work. This gave me more ideas to run with.
I watch all your videos. And I will keep doing so. Your work keeps me in awe.
Thank you! Now I know what to do with the Northcott Gradiation Ombré strips I have. So fun!
It's artsy fartsy...you KNOW I love this. And having successfully slain the curved piecing hands on at Meissner, I feel pretty confident this is doable. Thanks for another awesome tutorial...now I have new ideas percolating!
+Cheryl Land you're awesome!! You can totally do this, glad you liked this one!
Wow, you get me excited also........you get on a sewing high, I recently discovered this high.......it is amazing and so much run......and you wind up with some gorgeous free looking things.....wow
Love the tutorial, as always, Rob. You have now inspired me to start an art quilt that has been in my head for ages, but I have always been too frightened to try. Thank you.
I've watched this video a couple of times now. Absolutely, love Jeans book and the grunge fabrics you use are delicious! The wall hanging quilt you have on the wall is stunning!
LOVE, LOVE this! So ready to try something new! Thanks for making it feel possible for me!
@ 5:38.. into the video, the green strips look like grass or rolling hills. Could be a could base to a picture quilt.
I will be using this pattern with pastels and cut out an Easter egg and apply this to a table runner. Can't wait to use this technique . Thank you for your time on this tutorial !
+mothermgt what an awesome idea!! We hope to see photos!
Another tutorial Rob!!! Love this free-piecing & thanks for sharing Jean Wells’ fantastic techniques!
Just discovered your video and love it! So easy to learn how to do creative techniques by watching an expert demonstrate :)
Thanks, I needed this kind of encouragement to be free and play more with quilt piecing. I tend to get stressed and question why I had the urge to sew when I get caught up with doing the math on a quilt to make it an exact size or have precisely the right amount of materials and make all points line up. I'd rather find enjoyment more in the journey than the destination.
I've been wanting to do this for a long time, now. Guess there's no time like the present to give it a shot!
Wow! Love this technique! Thanks for the demo.
really enjoy your videos
Rob, WOW!! I was talking out loud to myself saying, what is this? Then I kept watching and got hooked on what you were creating and how you were doing it. Your first quilt the blue background one is my favorite. I will have to try this process. Thank you! :)
This is an interesting technique. I started doing something similar using scraps that I randomly pull out of my scrap bag. Thanks for a wonderful demonstraion.
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial, Richard!
LOVE it! I truly enjoy watching you sew the way I have been doing for a long time, by feel and heart, not always exact and precise.
Love this!! Awesome! You can add raw edge applique shapes, buttons or even metal washers for a cool mixed media quilt! Really love the possibilities! Thanks Rob! You the man!! ;)
+kNjStudio the possibilities are endless! (Singing, "I got the whole world in my hands") Haha!
Love your free, no rules piecing technique. I can't wait to use all my scrap fabric to try this. Thank you so much:)
Love this tutorial! I am planning on diving into my scrap bin to try this one.
Thank you Rob! I always wondered how these pieces go together! Awesome video!
This will be a good first project for those of us who are nervous about curves. Your mistakes will be hidden because no one will be sure if that's the way you wanted it or not! 😁
You had me and “abstract” and “playing.” This is an exciting concept for me, and I am inspired and thinking of different color ways. Thank you so much.
I am scrap saver and I love this!!!!
this is the video I've been looking for!!!!!! thank you!!!!
Thank you for this, very inspiring. I can hardly wait to get back into my studio now!
Great tutorial now I know what to try with all those scraps and pieces:)
+Gene_J Exactly!! I like the way you're thinking!
I love your enthusiasm! I can't wait to try this freestyle method!
That is "sew kewl"! It's great to think outside the box. Thanks for the tute Rob!
+RosieQuilts Thanks for watching this one! It was fun putting it together!

You are cooler than a cucumber!

Great quilting lesson, thank you!
Looks like a cricket field to me great work.
ur awesome thanks for showing quilters new projects
I love your ideas!
Oh my goodness! This is my kind of sewing, quilting, piecing etc.......
+Jena Pope Great minds think alike! ;) Hope you get to try this one!
Always wanted to learn this style - now I want to try it out, doesn't look so scary now.
Dang Rob! That quilt is beautiful and I am very impressed that you sewed those curves with no pins, and at highway speed. I just learned to do improv curves and I've been using a zillion pins. I gotta give your method a try. Looks like that book has a new edition coming out in July 2017... :)
Great information!!!! Can't wait to try it with all my scraps
This is art.
Loved this tutorial, thanks so much! I think I will do one in Christmas fabrics (I have quite a stash of Christmas solids and prints). May or may not turn out good, but I am going to give it a try!!
Love this video...but then, I love them all!

This is amazing. I am going to dust off my sewing machine. Thanks Rob.
+Kathleen Bown Glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for watching!
I love this! Wouldn't this look cool with having the green background but then a hodge podge of prints for the accents?!?
Love the improve of this quilt!
I learned lots ...thank you
LOVE LOVE the bearded old man doll behind you! where can I find the pattern !!! ???
Thanks for the inspiration!
joy joy joy! Thank you so much
Great inspiration!
+Pamela Casey I agree!! Thanks for watching!
Great to watch. Blondie, from the uk
thats an awesome channel. thx a lot.
Love it but wondering how you get those vertical strips in there? Are you splitting a horizontal set in two and inserting a vertical then sew them back together
восхищена
Love this!
Have you done one with patterned fabric or only solids or color on color?
How about taking 10" paper for paper piecing, use a crooked square for center, and then build your scraps or weird cuts around that center square. Keep building until you fill up the 10" paper. Any hang over, square up. Make 25 or 30 blocks. Sew together, wala!
How do you create a design and translate that to a paper piecing design in the court sewing sequence?
Great idea! Good way to use up all those scraps we have sitting in a bin. Possibilities are endless.
Where did you get the presser foot for the Baby Lock?
+Candace Peterson The presser foot comes with the Jane model. And don't you love the scrap busters? Thanks for watching!
WOW inspiration +
where can I get one of those shirts you wear?
Now I can use those pieces that I cut crooked. Thanks
❤❤❤❤❤❤
the text keep on covering what you show, cant it be on top of the screen?
dr.suess type diy quilt
This just came up in my recommendations getting here a little late
And, when you are all finished using both big and small pieces, you can take your very tiny strips and scraps to give to those women who make doggie beds for dogs in need.............ask around and you will find these doggie lovers.

I would only use scraps... material is toooooo pricey to butcher.
Hi Cathy! This would be a great quilt to use scraps for. Thanks for watching!
