    Reminds me of the older Haken records in the best possible way, all while still being absolutely new. Can't wait to hear the rest.

      Totally agree! They are like futuristic DT cuz they are not so Djenty. Haken got that Hit-The-Spot Balance that DT has yet super fresh every time.. I always Compare DT Large Hurricane, bwhy Haken are ThunderStorm!

    Haken tried to incorporate a lot of their sounds from passed albums in the one song. I hear Vector obviously, Multiple layering vocals like the Mountain. Passages reminding me of Visions. I know the Fairytale of the Nightingale and I love how they incorporate the lyrics as the nightingale to be inspiration to writing/composing. Also not sure it is a tie in, but the nightingale is the official animal of Ukraine.

    Honestly the first song by Haken I’ve ever heard. First listened to it this morning after seeing it on my TH-cam recommended, thought: “Why not?”. I’ve got to say I am impressed with their work and I can’t believe I’ve never listened to them before. This song really makes me want to dive deeper into this band!

      Oh man, you lucky lucky person. Go to Aquarius, Visions and then The Mountain to hear the development, then plunge into Affinity, Vector and Virus to see where they went next. One of my favourite bands of all time, and I’ve only known about them for 4 years!!!!

    Haken are special, this is going back to more proggy stuff, the last two albums were very rock and riff orientated and I guess that was because Diego was going. I hear the mountain a lot in this!

    WTH are they talking about? Music, great. Nightingale flying to a totem? What!? Somebody fill me in because I'm clueless here. I've read all the lyrics and I'm totally missing any symbolism or even any reference to current events. Too deep for my feeble mind I guess.

    I'm a bit on the fence with this one. Some parts I really liked, others I'm unsure about. Might take repeated listens to form a firm opinion. Strong ending though.
    Also, that instrumental bit in the middle had a real Dream Theater vibe, to me.

      Multiple listens is sometimes what’s needed. Not every song always hits on a first listen. Sometimes a first listen might make you dislike a track with a passion! Then, slowly, the track gnaws away at you until you realise it’s part of who you are! Sometimes!!!!

    This is one of those prog songs where first impressions may not be good, not that it was disliked, but more that it wasn't enjoyed. There are a lot of Yes! songs like that, they are so complex that at the end of it you are perplexed by what you just heard. With more listens you get a better handle on what the song is doing and it becomes more enjoyable.
    I'd disagree that this song was in your face or heavy, though it is certainly overwhelming. So much happening and so much to process.

    I wouldn't say a million miles from Visions when the intro chords are basically the theme from Visions

    • @JimNewstead
      @JimNewstead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ok. Not a million miles…. But it sounded very Radiohead at the beginning, morphing into a chunky crunchy Haken. It’s so obviously Haken. But I don’t hear the melodies and the slightly off-kilter sounds of some of the previous records. But this was only a FIRST listen, there’s more to uncover and discover on multiple play throughs. A great track, hoping for big things with the new album. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
