Boris spent £2m apparently building that media conference room with the British flags and a TV upstairs in Downing Street. Rishi even mentioned it in his speech. Why didn't he give his announcement from there - it could have mirrored exactly what he was talking about with Covid furlough, etc? Missed opportunity. No plan.

Furlough plan being rolled out so smoothly by a government that dithered on everything else was clearly a civil service contingency plan that was dropped in front of him and he didn't have the nerve to say no.

The first time I was in England was as an undergraduate studying abroad in an U.S. university program. At the time, I was so surprised that nothing was happening in London on 4th of July.! Remember folks, NOTHING in modern politics is a done deal. If you WANT change, then actually register to vote, then go out and actually vote! Don't assume. Learn from the last decade and make it count.
Sunak is a realist. He knows what is coming, whatever day he picks, whatever hour of the day, whatever the weather conditions. He does not want to go down in history as one who desperately fought the inevitable, but as someone who respects the people's right to choose. He is also looking ahead and telling his party they need to prepare for the opposition benches. If they don't come in third behind the LibDems that is.
