    Amphibious warfare is treacherous; moving a military force from sea to land can turn mistakes into disasters. As the US military begins to focus its attention on the Asia-Pacific region, an area of increasing military tension and territorial disputes, the Marine Corps is being called upon to return to its roots in amphibious assault. VICE News visited RIMPAC, the world's largest maritime warfare exercise, to see how the Marine Corps is testing new technologies and tactics to face the new challenges of amphibious warfare and remain the world's preeminent amphibious force in the future.

I ain't sure if there is anything official. I haven't fully looked into it, curiosity got to me when I've found something else interesting when I was looking up the Normandy landings. I know right, when you see Americas military budget you're STAGGERED. Its not a real amount of money, and thats EVERY year they spend that. We'd have fucking warp drive in 15-20 years if we ploughed that money into getting off this fucking rock.

    • @MrLgmhandler
      @MrLgmhandler 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be pretty crazy. But I think most people look at the budget the wrong way. Everyone wants nickel and dime the military and put that money elsewhere, which makes sense but it isn't the most rational thing to do and is ultimately short-sighted. The more interesting conversation would to ask what does a military cost that most EFFECTIVELY meets the needs of our national security? See with that approach you have to evaluate what our current and projected threats are, how capable we are of addressing those threats, and what improvements need to be made so we can gain or maintain an edge against those threats. Now we will discover life in space long before we ever do things as I just suggested which is the really sad thing.

      Justin H The US spends $640 billion a year on the military, i think the Apollo program was given $110 dollars over 10 years, and thats in inflation adjusted dollars. They were given $20 billion in 1960's dollars. So yes NASA did get some reasonable funding over the years but the military is far and away the biggest winner. Now can you imagine spending half the defence budget on space every year? $320 billion, thats 3 R&D projects on the scale of the Apollo moon landings every year!

    I wish the United States made it easier for Irish soldiers to join their army. We are some of the finest soldiers the world has ever seen, and have been excellent warriors ever since the Celtic times. We successfully defeated the single largest empire in the world at the time when we defeated the British in July 1921. Some of the finest Brigades of the American Civil War were comprised solely of Irish heroes, and if only the US could make military service a quicker path to citizenship, like Romney suggested during the last presidential debates, the US would not regret it for a second.

You may or may not be able to be in our military but many of us Americans do appreciate the support and would be honored to fight alongside our European brothers if the need was there. Some of our people may act like asses but we are happy for the support no matter how stubborn some of us come off. :) My family being of Irish descent I would be more than grateful to fight alongside the Irishmen any time, any place :)

That Marine talking to the Japanese landing party needs to check his 6 because back home his country is rotting and the things the old marines fought for are being taking away from their people.
