    I'm finding that I'm a fan of all root vegetables. I love the surprise! It's kind of like adult Christmas lol.

    I never knew sweet potato leaves are edible! To me it would be worth growing them for the greens.
    Also, I love to play with natural dyes. Good to know that the sap has staining abilities! Thank you 😊

    Use a pitch fork at the outer edges of your garden to raise the soil and harvest. That way, you can get under the potatoes without as much breakage.

    I harvest some of my sweet potatoes a couple of weeks ago, I was doing an experiment to see how good they grow in a cardboard box, not a good idea, maybe the wrong carboard box, however, I harvest them and I have some the same size as you, first time growing sweet potatoes, lets see the rest how they come in a few weeks. Thank you for the garden lessons.

    That is decent. Every single one, home grown, healthier and cheaper than store bough. Man, I pray my slips would start to develop. My sweet potato made roots alrady, but it looks like it wants to rot. It a reddish purple type. I am scared to miss the season. It is first month of spring in South Africa. I am the only gardener in my community growing potatoes (they started making flowers, yeah)
    Now sweet potatoes are my absolute favourite. Steamed in it's skin, it is sooo sweet and juicy. And filling. I am so glad to have discovered your channel. I am still binge watching your videos. It is around 03h00 AM here, I was watching your eggplant and pepper recipe when I got your notification. Dare I say, 1st commenter😂
    My soil is also very clay dense. Gypsum helps to break clay down, but these days I prefer no dig and just layer my compost thick evey Autumn. I have my potatoes in grow bags 30L, space is running low(I have space, just needs clearing up) so container growing is my go to short or even permanent solution. But as you instructed me on previous comments, get the grapes going. It would also be a first for me, I am so excited. I am building a fence next to my backyard pathway and decided I will make the fence my grape trellis. Maybe an archway at the end? Don't know, but that would be my next weekend project. Thank you for all your wisdom and insight. God bless

    I love watching both. I can't wait to harvest mine. They're growing in containers. I also harvested a small bowl full of little magic Mollys yesterday.

    you may want to mix 3 or 4 bags of potting soil, compost and sand in with your native soil for your sweet potatoes...it makes the soil so much lighter.

    I am definitely on Team Potato now 😂 Sitting here watching you work so hard to harvest those sweet taters (and then they break on you!) makes me wanna rip out a shovel and dig em all up. I’d be so frustrated in your place 😅. Thanks for another lesson in gardening. If I ever try sweet potatoes I’ll definitely do them in a container. I am zone 5b in another state and the clay soil is not fun to fight. 😝

    If my winters are super rainy a month or so before it freezes, should i wait till after first hard freeze or pull before the rain comes? I get 111 inches of rain a year. Mostly fall and spring.

    My sweet potatoes didn't grow very big vines. I'm waiting for frost to kill them before I harvest them.

    Try this!! Get a pack of juicy fruit gum. Take the sticks out don't unwrap the sticks! Rip them in half burry the half stick where you see holes or think moles or voles will be traveling. They will leave!!!

    Is it common to have less issues with voles in deep raised beds?

    • @selecttravelvacations7472
      @selecttravelvacations7472 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, unfortunately, not unless you add grid wire at the base of the raised bed, which I sure wish I’d have done with mine. They come right up through them, even the 37” height ones. Landscape fabric was not enough protection for me anyway.

    They're not glass my brother. In my opinion it would take half the day to do it that meticulous, just pick the damn things

      I think we would pick faster if we hard a larger area to harvest, but I like to savor the moments. :D
