With the Magic Rack, which they used, the wing balls are almost wired dead into the corner pockets. So it is much easier to make a ball or 2 on the break and come up with a shot. Still running 9 racks is very impressive! You still have to come with the shots.

This tournament has low racking (1 ball on the spot), which was the original placement. Then the game got too easy with winner breaks, no 3 point rule as players were just cutting the 1 ball in middle, and/or making the wing ball nearly every time! Nowadays, racking high proves to be tougher. That's all I was getting at.

Racking low, the break is considerably easier. Pretty much guaranteed the wing ball every time.
