      Because it wasn't Coote who said that. I get the issue with the phrase, but the other guy is considered irrelevant in the conversation about what David said and him being a PL ref. The main conversation is not about a random person saying a racist thing on video, it's about a refs comments given their position as a ref.

    I think you are missing the point. For several years now the fans have been saying this chap has been making bizarre decisions that have affected games and titles. Klopp was punished for saying the ref had biases and had expressed them to him. Everyone condemned Klopp and said it was disgraceful to even consider that he could have a personal bias against Klopp and a hatred or scoucers. We were all vilified as conspiracy merchants.
    Well now it turns out we were right and the mainstream who attacked us and defended the like of Cootes were very very wrong. I hope he never works in football again. I also hope people will look back and apologise.

      Well said.

      @TokenishTrinket 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well said. Arsenal fans asked about the ethical questions regarding Michael Oliver being able to be a referee in a league where he was employed by the owners of a team in that league and everyone dismissed it. The FA and PGMOL have no rectification for their complaints, even when the Kovačić red card challenges were so obviously incorrect. If all fans and all clubs came together to call this behaviour out rather than dismissing it or using the complaints as a way of bantering the impacted team we could have a multi-team protest against the terrible incompetence (and potential corruption) of these match officials.
      Alas, I believe all fans are too infantile to realise their collective power to come together for the pro bono rather than persiflage.

    The reason he won’t ref again isn’t so much the first video, it’s the second. If I’m his lawyer and it’s just the first video, I’m going to argue that my client was blacked out and had no memory of the incident. These opinions are not representative of what my client believes, and that my client immediately called Juergen Klopp to apologise, and further, my client was too drunk to realise he was being filmed. He of course accepts whatever punishment is coming to him, and would like to extend his apology not just to Klopp, but also the great city of Liverpool. However, my client maintains that he would never say those things or think those things in a sober state, which he always was as a referee, he would never allow what were only temporary irritations subsequently smoothed over with Klopp to affect his refereeing. His judgement on the day was poor but he shouldn’t be held to account for what he believed to be private comments made in a severely compromised state.
    Anyway, the second video nuked all those arguments. It proves:
    1. He knew he was being filmed.
    2. That he was of sound mind while being filmed.
    3. That the things he was saying were inappropriate for him to say as a referee.
    4. That if he were caught having said these things, ending his career would be an appropriate punishment.
    He’s done done.
