When I put a new tire on, the first thing I do is clean the bead seat on the rim. I use a piece of 3M Scuff pad (Brown) and soak it with Brakleen. It loosens the crud on the rim real good and then I immediately wipe it off with a dry cloth, before the brakleen dries. Your rim will look like brand new and not leak when you put the tire on. I use Counteract mounting grease as I run beads in the tire for balance. I see a lot of guys get there tires put on at the stealership and they don't clean the rims, constant low pressure issues. Needless to say you should check your pressure every time you ride anyway. A good indication is, when you try to push it down the driveway or on a parking lot and the bike feels really heavy, you are probably low on air!

This helps a tremendous amount. Had a 25-yr motorcycle, never cleaned the wheels, took to get fitted for new tire and rear tire held air for a few months and went flat. Never held air again. The wheel is still dirty and I didn’t mount them. This has to be the reason or the change of temperature causes this as well. Just what an educational video.

Chris, This past April 22' I rode my Dyna, with new tire, all the way from south Texas to LA and no problems. I know the cold impacts the tire pressure because during the hot months I never encountered a problem. Mid Dec 22, rode last night then this AM it was flat! I found 4 bubbling, slow leaks with soapy water on both sides of tire. Valve stem is good, no dents, nails, tears. This gets any worse I'll have to take care of the rusting and dirt with all of them tips you put on here. Keep ya posted, thanks.

Nice vid, but you could have protected the other side of the rim. It churned my stomach to hear it scrape on concrete.

Ugh, this has been driving me nuts. I’ve got a motorcycle with tubes. Three months ago, I put new tires and tubes on myself. Recently I checked the pressure on the front tire and it read zero. Used another gauge and read zero again. I thought no way, the tire felt REALLY tight and didn’t look flat. Took the valve out and no air came out. I thought the tube had twisted on both sides of the stem. NOPE!!! I took the wheel and tire off and applied pressure with my
Body weight to the tire........FLAT!! So, YES.......check your pressure!!!! For the life of me, I cannot find the leak.....soapy water and all. Driving me nutz! Tomorrow I will just break it down and reinstall tube and tire......ugh. I could just bring it somewhere to have a pro look at it.......but nahhh🤣

I wonder if the leak is just verrry slow, and that's what's making it hard to find. How long does it take to leak down?

It's been over 6 months. Were you able to figure the problem with your bike?

I would definitely put an old blanket or towel under the rim to keep from scratching it but yeah looks like a clean tire and rim wonder if a man could get away with using a pressure washer i just hate to break the seal and take tire off bike

Can the back tire have the same issue, I bought brand new tires and been having problems with it leaking out the air in couple of days. Where can I take to get checked out?

Murphy's oil soap works great for this

So I am on my third tire bead break down. I seated the tire two more times but I still have a leak. I place bead sealant around the rim and tire wall but still not there just yet. Leaking still. It’s been 2 hrs & 30 mins, I just noticed there was a minor dent on the rim of the tire. I tried hammering it back to look like the correct profile circumference of the tire.

listening to your rim being scratched to death on the driveway gave me chills. Put it on a 5 gallon bucket and it will spare your rim some damage.

hi chris my tyre leaks just at the base on the valve how can u fix that

You should be able to tighten the nut to stop the leak. If that doesn't help, you will need to replace the valve stem
