My grandparents retired from the PRR. My dad was all over these growing up and they became his favorite. The PA RR museum in Lancaster has one of these inside that was freshly restored, truly a thing of beauty.

That museum also has the prototype, Old Rivets, on display outdoors. She may need a new paint job but still nice the first one made had survived.

Having the chapters of interest plus being able to access the transcripts of those chapters eliminated the problem of not being able to hear you due to the background noise. Your channel just keeps getting better and better! Hope you all are doing well! Take care...

    I love me those GG1's.
I cannot decide how I feel about BLI as I keep having issues.
It would be really nice to have a GG1 with a good sound package!

Excellent video! A look at the underside and the powered axles and traction tires (when applicable) is an important detail that should be included in more reviews than they are on U-tube (and in magazines for that matter)! Brass trains is the only website that does this on a consistent basis, that I am aware of (unfortunately they don't provide full reviews like you do... which is understandable I guess, given the huge size of their inventory)! Once again, thanks for what you do (on every level)! Take care and be safe!

Hi James, the GG1's were very much loved by the engineers that ran them. They could feel the engine surge with each throttle notch! These were undoubtedly the finest electric locomotive ever designed!!! They were designed by Raymond Lowey.

James, the GG1’s were the best Electric Locomotives ever built, in fact when the Metroliner trainsets started wearing out and breaking down the GG1’s were used to pull a consist of passenger cars in their place because they were the only locomotives that could keep up with the timetable. A good friend of mine was running them at the time.

I notice that the previous release of the 5-stripe tuscan red GG1's had red roof panels, while this release has black ones. Any idea which one was correct? I cannot find much information on this and what little I can is conflicting.

Responding to your invitation to suggest review improvements, a little torch wouldn't go amiss to better reveal product details that the normal lighting don't properly enhance. What do you think about that? Cheers!

She sure was! January 15th, 1953, just 5 days before the inauguration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, she was hauling the Federal Express into Washington Union Station. Just outside the station, the train's brakes malfunctioned because of a design flaw on the 3rd coach to where the underframe would knock it into the "closed" position and crashed through the station. Amazingly, because of the train crews', train directors', and station staff's quick thinking, no one was killed!
After the inauguration was over, she was disassembled and taken back to the Altoona works, repaired and reassembled, and returned to service. She continued to run for 30 more years before she was retired in 1983. Today, she still resides at the B&O Railroad Museum. She's in very poor condition, but hopefully, the museum will have her cosmetically restored.

Nice review James ! I think you did a dark green BLI GG1 as well. I have a dark green BLI GG1with broad yellow stripe and large logo.
Could you review a P5a in the not too distant future ? They look the opposite of a GG1 and are also from BLI. I suspect they have the sound decoder of the GG1 however.
