This was MY K-Pop journey, and the groups I'd recommend: - All of Blackpink. They don't have an insane amount of videos and songs, so it's relatively easy to get through them all. And they're all gold. All hits. All near or over a billion views, and for good reason. - A girl group called Twice. Twice and Blackpink are the top 2 female groups in Kpop. Twice is definitely a different vibe than Blackpink, but all of their 2019-2020 songs/videos have been REALLY good, and getting into more mature concepts. (Id recommend 2019: Fancy, Breakthrough, Feel Special... and 2020: More & More, Can't Stop Me, Better, Cry For Me) - Their "younger sister" group, named Itzy. Same label as Twice, but slightly younger, only 5 members, AMAZING dancers (like legitimately raised the bar for girl groups) and a lot of spunk and confidence. They only have 4 videos so far, but they're ALL insanely good. - Stray Kids. A male group of the same label, they do a lot of their own writing and producing, insane rappers AND singers AND dancers. All triple threats. They're reeeeally good guys too, and funny behind the scenes. Their biggest (and BEST) hits have been God's Menu, and Backdoor. DEFINITELY worth checking out. Then of course there's tons of other great groups I'm sure everyone will recommend, and many are very good. But the only ones I personally feel are worth mentioning are: - Aespa (brand new group, their debut video broke the internet, raised the rookie bar even higher) - Secret Number (newer group, very solid and unique) - I*Zone (if you're interested in a 12 member group of elegance and femininity and mesmerizing choreo) - BTS (I haven't found a TON I like from them but they ARE very talented and funny). I've dipped my toes into dozens of other groups, but THESE groups stand out to me. At the very least, they're a good place to start. I also think THESE groups have the most English in them, and the most Western influence. Not a bad thing either way, but you'll find in K-Pop there's many "concepts", ranging from cutesy candy & teddy bears, to hardcore rap, and everything in between. But I feel the groups and songs I'VE listed will feel most "familiar" to someone brand new to Kpop.

I wish people would stop focusing on view counts, like it's a competition. It's a very good song, but a song having high view counts doesn't inherently make a song better, or even necessarily much at all any more - there are even guides on 'how to stream' to artificially make groups win awards. Popular groups like Blackpink & BTS are always going to have high views anyway, even on their weakest songs. eg: Psy's Gangam Style is fun, but isn't really a great song, and has nearly 4 billion views. His second most popular has 1.3 billion, and so on. Similarly there are great singers/songs with very few views.

We Blinks stream to maintain the standings while others stream to break it so they can rub it to our faces with their stupid Fanwars and competition. This was MY K-Pop journey, and the groups I'd recommend:
- All of Blackpink. They don't have an insane amount of videos and songs, so it's relatively easy to get through them all. And they're all gold. All hits. All near or over a billion views, and for good reason.
- A girl group called Twice. Twice and Blackpink are the top 2 female groups in Kpop. Twice is definitely a different vibe than Blackpink, but all of their 2019-2020 songs/videos have been REALLY good, and getting into more mature concepts. (Id recommend 2019: Fancy, Breakthrough, Feel Special... and 2020: More & More, Can't Stop Me, Better, Cry For Me)
- Their "younger sister" group, named Itzy. Same label as Twice, but slightly younger, only 5 members, AMAZING dancers (like legitimately raised the bar for girl groups) and a lot of spunk and confidence. They only have 4 videos so far, but they're ALL insanely good.
- Stray Kids. A male group of the same label, they do a lot of their own writing and producing, insane rappers AND singers AND dancers. All triple threats. They're reeeeally good guys too, and funny behind the scenes. Their biggest (and BEST) hits have been God's Menu, and Backdoor. DEFINITELY worth checking out.
Then of course there's tons of other great groups I'm sure everyone will recommend, and many are very good. But the only ones I personally feel are worth mentioning are:
- Aespa (brand new group, their debut video broke the internet, raised the rookie bar even higher)
- Secret Number (newer group, very solid and unique)
- I*Zone (if you're interested in a 12 member group of elegance and femininity and mesmerizing choreo)
- BTS (I haven't found a TON I like from them but they ARE very talented and funny).
I've dipped my toes into dozens of other groups, but THESE groups stand out to me. At the very least, they're a good place to start. I also think THESE groups have the most English in them, and the most Western influence. Not a bad thing either way, but you'll find in K-Pop there's many "concepts", ranging from cutesy candy & teddy bears, to hardcore rap, and everything in between. But I feel the groups and songs I'VE listed will feel most "familiar" to someone brand new to Kpop.

I wish people would stop focusing on view counts, like it's a competition. It's a very good song, but a song having high view counts doesn't inherently make a song better, or even necessarily much at all any more - there are even guides on 'how to stream' to artificially make groups win awards.
Popular groups like Blackpink & BTS are always going to have high views anyway, even on their weakest songs.
eg: Psy's Gangam Style is fun, but isn't really a great song, and has nearly 4 billion views. His second most popular has 1.3 billion, and so on.
Similarly there are great singers/songs with very few views.

But it also does not mean that the song and MV is not worthy of the views it has acquired over the years. I also agree that it should not be a competition, I don't like it! personally I listen and Stream an artist or song BECAUSE I ENJOY THE MUSIC and when it comes to Kpop, I only listen to Blackpink songs because I can literally jam to all their song including all their cover songs.
We should also be open to the fact that music is subjective and would always be according to a person's personal preference. In short, it you don't like a song, it doesn't mean that all people won't like it too, simple as that.
I can't explain on others but I'll speak as a Blink for Blackpinks high view count (though my views and opinion won't reflect that of the intire fandom)✌️
1. Streaming parties are often done during the first day, 1st week or 1st month an MV was released.. Our fanbases can schedule that but let me tell, and this is a common knowledge in the community that most BLINKS are lazy after the 1st week of streaming😅 so the rest we live it to general public. A dedicated fanbase can continue on streaming but like I said, majority stop after the 1st week or when we reach the goal.
2. Its the QUALITY... I'm not sure how many MV of Blackpink have you SEEN, but Blackpink never do less when it comes to MVs... The repeatable value of Blackpink's mv is so high you cant just watch it ONCE to see all the details. When it comes to Blackpink, often times the anticipation for the MV is as high as the anticipation to the song itself. That's how Blackpink created this high reputation when it comes to visuals and aesthetics. No green screen, no CGI... No one else do it like Blackpink and their entire team.
3. Blackpink set standards for views that makes other crazy on breaking it, that's why their is a COMPETITION. Do you know what makes DU DDU DU DDU ICONIC? Because it unexpectedly Breaks records that makes other mad at them, this is the Era that started the Hate Wagon towards Blackpink... We Blinks stream to maintain the standings while others stream to break it so they can rub it to our faces with their stupid Fanwars and competition. If they break it then so what, majority of Blinks wont stream even if fanbases beg for it....thats common knowledge and often makes us say... THANK GOD GENERAL PUBLIC LOVES BLACKPINK BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE MOST LAZY FANDOM😂
(don't hate me co-blinks, but we should accept the truth)
4. For me it doesn't mean that if the fanbase streams it, its called Artificial... We stream as humans and we don't pay/buy it. Dedicated blinks stream because they love it and the MV is Worth it... We can argue with the songs but not the visuals. And it's our way of showing love and appreciation for the amount of hardwork they put in all their MVs. like I said, no green screen, no CGI for a 3 minute MV with all those amazing sets. We saw the perfect finish product and everyone would appreciate it... But if your a Blink, you'll look beyond the finish product. You'll think of all the efforts and work they put into it TO GIVE US that's perfect result. I hope you get what I mean.
5. Like you said their can be better artist or better songs than them that deserves more views and yes it's true, but what's sets kpop, in general apart from those artist is the amount of work and effort they put on everything... In the West, putting almost naked sexy girls, cars, dancing a little... record it with the song and that's the MV... (no hate pls✌️🙏)... Kpop artist don't do bare minimum like that so fans appreciate it more...
6. Blackpink have almost 58m subscribers... So views for them is not that surprising to me. Other artist maybe more talented but what Blackpink have is the APPEAL that can't be explained. If you dont feel it then it's ok✌️
