Click Steam (top left) > Settings > Storage > Select the storage in question > Click the (...) > Repair Library.
This method just worked for me and I've seen no mention anywhere of this option.
edit: I was also running steam as admin

Thanks a lot. The very first tip did it for me (open steam in admin mode) . I had tried everything including verifying integrity of files, uninstalling and redownloading, installing on a different hard drive. but it still came up with the same disk write error. Now I can get back to dying light 2! Thanks again.

I have reset my PC, re-installed steam, checked file integrity, cleared download cache, nothing works, I just get 'Disk write error' and 'Stopping download'
Close steam and run as admin, it should be a symbol coming up on steam icon if not repaeat, from there you should be able to verify
Is it still not working? Then you can go to files and find steam, rename the download file to whatever you want. Weird but it works

Jeez man, I've been stuck with my GTA V giving me a disk write error for months, I searched up everything and nothing worked. But after 4-5 months I just randomly stumbled on your vid and just ran steam as an administrator and worked first try. I owe you. Thanks, and keep up the good work

Skyrim/Steam has just finished updating and it show the VERY WELCOME green bar PLAY again!
If anyone reads this, here is wat I did:
I shut down Steam.
I went into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\depotcache
and after saving them to my Home folder in Windows, in this folder I saw and then (because why not?...) I deleted all the .manifest files.
I restarted Steam, hit the RESUME bar -- and "Skyrim"/Steam startred updating (more than 1 GB).
WHEW what a relief!!!

My issue was that my games were being kept on a drive that no longer exists in my computer, so I just had to go into storage (Settings > Storage > Select storage > (Click) ... > Remove Library).
Then I went into the partition formatter (Create and format hard disk partitions) and rescanned the drives on the PC just in case.

help, i tried verifying the files, changed my location, even reinstalled steam, but i still cant downlaod the game i wish to download. what can i do?

Skyrim (that being the "Special Edition") since December last year, 2023.
It has been showing an update of 26.06 MB. I read about updates (no idea which one they mean) may break Mods (I have only a few mods), so I didn't download that 26 MB update. Steam says UPDATE PAUSED.
Since you cannot start a game, if you don't update ( 🙄 ), I hit RESUME (updating). It start updating for a fraction of a second, then shows UPDATES PAUSED again.
I noticed that DISK WRITE ERROR only today.
I have been looking online for the cause and following things like this video.
Running Steam as Administrator does nothing.
Repairing the "libary" does nothing.
File integrity shows no problems.
Change download region did nothing.
Clear cache did nothing.
I am CERTAIN that I do not have any hardware problems (I have had computers for, I dunno, 30 years or so, or whenever MS-DOS was still around, and in the past 10 years I have built maybe 10 computers, so I know about hardware).
I have to reinstall Steam after some ELEVEN years of it working fine? What the f*ck, Steam??

Nothing works for me, it only happens when I try to download/update something... My disk has enough space for the game. I have no clue what the issue can be. Maybe my disk is dying...

People piss me off because of a problem that many people have when uploading fake tutorials.
Its so strange. All my launchers like Steam, Epic, Uplay cant write anymore. The only reason I can think of is that I installed the RockstarLauncher directly onto the SSD. (rockstar launcher makes itself read only) But that doesnt explain why every SD is like that now. Yeah the admin thing works, but it happend overnight. Very strange.
I have an additional harddrive put in that I am trying to use for the steam games but it wont let me do so. The hdd looks good. but it is still not letting me actualy get the games on it. would you have any idea why for someone who is trying to do this on manjaro

I can't run as admin as it is a school laptop...
