Buy a turbo Turbo Tank Cleaner and clean out that buildup yourself and save hundreds of dollars on a plumber swindling you into purchasing a new water heater. Lots of video demonstrations of it here on YT.

There's no point of draining or flushing or whatever! Watch the videos and try it...the noise comes back. This is just the nature of a tank gas water heater. Plumbers charge money to do this, and when the popping noise comes back, they scare you and say get a new heater. Rip off. It's always 50/50 as to whether you'll get a crook or a real plumber coming to your door.
