    About this video:
    Some argue AI will take our jobs, others say it will create more, and many argue the truth is somewhere in between - to this, we don’t know the answer. Regardless of the solution, let me propose a sobering conclusion not often presented in public discourse:
    AI performing our jobs is one of the best things that can happen to us.

    Its going to get a lot uglier before it gets better because the greed machine is going to resist it with all the substantial power at its disposal.

      I do worry about this. It's why I think blockchain solutions may make for a feasible way to get collective decision making rather than highly centralized profit incentivized - check out this video for my exploration into this idea: th-cam.com/video/Ss3IAaTNVe4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=K_AiIszAkTq28xxP

    It’s not ethical to use people’s labor to destroy their livelihoods. If creators hadn’t provided that value, their livelihoods would now not be at risk because these AIs would be impossible. It’s easy to imagine some kind of UBI in the future to patch all those livelihoods destroyed, but that doesn’t make it ethical. UBI will quickly devolve in people voting for whoever promises more money, a complete loss of independence. This future is most likely going to be one of consumption, not creation. One of the reasons is desensitization. No one cares about a photograph looking realistic anymore, nor are our mails, carpets, furniture, and so on as beautifully decorated as they used to be now that these things have been automated and are cheaper than ever. There is nothing in the world you can bedazzle us with indefinitely. . To want to create something, you need to be willing to suffer for it. If we are to have a beautiful future, it will be in the rejection of creation automation. As technology waxes, humanity wanes.

    The problem is when the AI companies/states will refuse to pay you UBI. You have no value to them except basic morals, and I am worried that this is not enough.
    Even if everything turned in the right way, we are still probably going to lose democracy, as anyone who is against the rulling class will get theirs UBIs cut. And if others would want to help, they would get theirs UBIs cut too, so people wont just give their money to those who are worse off (as would be natural when everyone with UBI can be ungodly rich).

      @@Green_Bean_Machine great. We have the same fears. That means we can work together, trying to stop or at least pause AGI development. It will be hard to enforce such pause, especially on Chinese government, but I believe it is possible.
      There are multiple groups and organisations trying to stop different types of AI, one example might be Pause AI.
      We all have the common goal of stopping the development of AGI, the main thing is to start doing something as most people are concerned but don’t do anything about it.

      I see your fear and I hold it as well
      However, I do think we can make it to the other side
      Democracy can stay with... I know this next word is going to inflame some people...
      Blockchain technology
      I mean it. My favorite chain is officially moving to complete community governance. If we make our global financial system and digital operating system a self-sustaining democratic blockchain, we can vote and make ubi monetary transfers which are dictated by the votes of the community.
      It'll be a terribly difficult path, but worth it when considering the alternatives!
      thank you for your comment!

    I've been thinking this for years now. Growing up, I always looked up to my favorite content creators and those personalities that I clicked with over the internet. It always seemed so cool to me that these people had their place on the internet, their identity in a sense. I wanted to do nothing more than do what they were doing. I hoped everyone could do it as a means of connection and growth. But today, with the prevalence of AdSense and other monetary motivations, the landscape seems a lot more filtered and inauthentic. Until, perhaps, everyone can do it for passion because thats whats left, and the people doing it solely for money will have their focus shifted. This will be the renaissance of human evolution

      @domstocchetti  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That would be a great trajectory, not sure if that's where we go, but great nevertheless. I have been playing around with the idea of a social media that, rather than optimized for "engagement" is optimized for authentic connection. So that maybe we can create a social media where the algorithm doesn't try to keep you on the platform, it tries to optimize for creators which you will connect on a deep level with.
      That idea was inspired by this great talk from CEO of Patreon: th-cam.com/video/5zUndMfMInc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rbbGgEBSsLRmiyhf

    In this utopia, someone will have to be behind all this and pull strings of what is being produced and delivered. AI doesn't have free will nor motivation, and if it becomes sentient, why would it even want to cater to humans?

    • @domstocchetti
      @domstocchetti  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not a Utopia-just speculation that if we get it right, we will be better off. That doesn't mean it will erase all crime or anything like that.
      Right, someone, but someone could be acting on behalf of the collective. Or, maybe that which is operating the AI, is a benevolent AI?
      In the event it becomes sentient, right, maybe it doesn't cater to humans - but maybe it does. We can work for it to cater to humans in a positive way. In fact, upon initial though, GPT has certainly catered to my request, if we extrapolate, can we say that it can cater with a higher degree of intelligence?

    I loved how you expressed your passion for writing in the intro, as a musician seeing music on the chopping block for AI research I found it very inspiring and as my friend once told me when I expressed concerns about this years ago, something along the lines of “robots don’t bleed” I think that people will always value art made by humans more. Even if they don’t and you draw personal satisfaction from writing, even just for the eyes of your descendants, or for just you, to read it back when you’re old, that’s a beautiful thing and makes life worth living.

    • @domstocchetti
      @domstocchetti  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Beautifully put and I couldn't agree more. I think that the ability to monetize art via social media has incentivized a crowd to build and create strictly for the money - but that's not human, and I think what you've articulated is exactly as art should be created. I wrote about this recently: open.substack.com/pub/frontierletter/p/the-era-of-authenticity?r=jzsh5&
      The piece is called Era of Authenticity, and thesis is that LLMs are essentially really good at speaking our ancestral and collective thought, so what will stand out in the future, is the authentic creation of humankind.

    Ones worth has always been tied to what one can offer. If people are not doing anything then our value to each other will be none existant. So Ai can't be a good thing. Has any of the tech for the last 30 years actually made us happier? I would say no, it has made things worse, life was pretty good in the 90s. Don't get carried away with all of this, we are animals nothing more, nothing less.

      Look - I'm not saying this will be a Utopia.
      I've come to learn if someone sells Utopia, dystopia follows.
      I would have to think about if I agree with the initial premise of your statement, "Ones worth has always been tied to what one can offer"
      But for the sake of conversation, lets say I agree with that premise. I would offer the following: AI may be able to do all the jobs inhabited by humans, but who's to say modern jobs are all that we have to offer one another?
      There's the creative endeavors which I think will 100% be around still. AI can make art, music, writing, but it certainly cannot make YOUR writing, that is derived from your experiences, unique thoughts, and the like. But there's more than that. I love to be around, socialize with, ideate, discuss, dance, listen to music, struggle forward and persevere, with other humans. This is likely a unique attribute of our species, it's not going to go away because I don't show up to a desk everyday.
      The transition will likely suck, that's partly why I'm trying to think through these things - I want to try to think about how we can manage the transition to get to a better future in the light of this technology.

    • @clarkdef
      @clarkdef 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@domstocchettiI like this "I've come to learn if someone sells Utopia, dystopia follows". If you have no need for people, then they don't need to exist. Ai will cause entropy, because that's all it can do (my opinion). The humans at the top run Ai(not my opinion), do you think they will alter the game to benefit anyone but themselves (morals)? The only other scenario is Ai and mech becoming self aware and decided that those at the top need to go and the balance needs to be restored again (Terminator2). Entropy.
      Lets ask ourselves some questions.
      1. Will Ai reduce entropy?
      2. Will the spectrum of current humans have a balanced value?
      3. If the humans at the top get more, then does that mean the humans at the bottom will have less?
      I have my answers, and you would have yours, asking these questions will make for good videos :)

      @@clarkdef Love those questions. I used to due livestreams, I may consider doing livestreams and adding viewer comments as the questions I would ponder or respond to. This will be on my list :)
      I would say that AI doesn't reduce the need for people, it will just create new needs, in a sense.
      Thank you for the questions!

      Doing anything you say AI gives people more time to do the hobbies they enjoy. Not everyone enjoys working at a job, especially with rude, toxic workers or bosses that get mad easy or want the work done fast for many hours, which does nothing good for one's mental health but stress. The ones that enjoy their job are the minority, and I doubt it's the majority. I have been happier with technology in the last 30 years. AI can be used for good and bad things, and that's true of many things that we use. A car can get you from point A to point B very fast, but it can also be used as a weapon to take out someone. Elon Musk said a while back that a job won't be needed; a person could have a job if they wanted, but AI will do everything.
