  • We own a Cutwater C-28 and we love it. Reviewed at the Portland 2020 boat show at the Sundance Yacht Sales display. We also do an in-depth review of our own boat over six videos showing how, where, and to what extent we use it. Two of those videos are available now as follows: "Cutwater 28 Owners Review Introduction" (at • Cutwater 28 Owners Rev... ) and "C28 Owners Review Fit and Finish Exterior" (at • C28 Owners Review Fit ... ). In the future, we will add a channel showing our adventures named "Traveling with a Trailerable Cabin Cruiser". We also reviewed the Cutwater C-24 on this channel called "2020 Cutwater Review" (at • 2020 Cutwater 24 Coupe... ).
    We are not affiliated with Cutwater nor Sundance, and have not received any compensation for the making of this video.
    At the time of this review, for reference purposes only, you can expect to spend roughly $215,000 to $218,000 for the Northwest Edition of the 2020 Cutwater C28, which is by no means a basic package. Expect to pay another $11,000 to $13,000 for a trailer, depending upon your choice of trailer.

    That my friend was a very thorough and methodical review. Don't think you missed anything. Thanks for taking the time to do it and it has helped me immensely. If I was going to go diesel I think I'd prefer Ranger Tugs or a Cutwater with outboards. This is the decision I'm facing.

      Thank you Roadster 1963 for watching and taking the time to comment. Ranger Tugs are a great choice as well. If you go the outboard route, I would appreciate hearing back from you with regard to your experience. Cheers

    Thanks for reviewing this boat, it helped answer a bunch of questions I've had about the layout and features. I enjoyed hearing your personal insight as to how you use certain things and showing how layout options move to convert for function. I would have enjoyed more of visual of how the shower works in the head.

    Very impresses on all detailing of the boats features, and the way a boat should be featured and displayed. Very professional! Great job! Only thing that was not told was , how far, and how many nautical miles one can go or reach, on fuel capacities! Or consumptions! Thank you once again!

    Been looking at trailer trawlers trying to find the best of both worlds and your C-28 has me sold!
    We can travel and camp in or out of the water and explore anywhere with a single investment

      Bruce, we have absolutely had success with staying in our C28 while its on the water or on the trailer. The only point I would caution you on if that is your intention is to purchase the West Coast package, which comes with the diesel furnace that can be operated while the vessel is not in the water. Good luck, and let me know if you purchase one and hoe you like it.

    Two features I like on this boat vs the C-Dory and the Ranger is the additional clearance lights when on a trailer and also the overhanging roof over the cockpit. I have seen the C-Dory's and the Rangers this snap on awnings over part of the cockpits but when in adverse weather, water will come between the snap on tops and the cabin's aft door. I like the dock lighting also. The rear helm is great also and the fold down seats on the cockpit. Why does it have a "hot water heater?" If the water is already hot? It is actually a "water heater".

    You've totally sold me on this boat. thank you for going into such great detail. I plan to keep my next boat in salt water full time, is there anything that I should consider before ordering a C-28?

      Evan002, thank you for watching and for reaching out to me. We are in the midst of making an Owner's review of the C28 which will consist of four videos. The first video covers "Fit and Finish", the second "Function", the third "Systems", and the final video will cover "Performance." There are things in the upcoming videos which will be very helpful. How soon do you plan to order your new Cutwater C28? I am happy to communicate the points directly if our videos will not be released in advanced of your order.

    There are four areas where I think this boat design can be improved. The keel is great for stability. First, somehow keep the keel and add dual outboards for better performance. Increased fuel capacity would be required for range. Number two, split the head to have a port/starboard configuration to reduce daily hygiene cleanup. Addition of an outboard setup would allow for a stern area watermaker. Number three, I had a custom Nextgen diesel 3.5 kw genset installed in my 2000 Doral 270 SC. 3.5 Kw is pretty low power. After 20+ years it is past time for NextGen to offer a smoother, more compact, higher performance diesel genset for a segment leading price. Then we would be making progress. Number four, a more modern, ergonimical electrical power panel is in order. As a potential owner, I do not want to get on my hands and knees to manage power. Hope this helps. All the best!

      @@mattseclecticreviews3614 Hi Matt, thanks! I was already in touch with CutWater and they have a dealer on the East coast of US that can arrange shipping to France for $5,000-10,000 USD depending on shipping method. I'm now in communications with a chartering firm as this would be a charter boat pending on charting firm feedback. Cheers!

    That was a wonderful tour of a beautiful boat. Is this too much boat, or maybe just not a good fit, for lake use? Again, great job on the tour!

      Thank you Panacea for watching and for sharing your question. Actually, our Cutwater C28 resides on a lake when we are not traveling with it. If you wish to see the size of the lake, search your favorite map for Lake Merwin toward the southern border of Washington State. Happy Holidays.

    beautiful boat...with the volvo 260 hp, I'm wondering about the fuel range. How many miles per gallon do you get at the rpm sweet spot up on plaine ?

      Hello Ron, I thought we had included that information in the description, but I see now we did not. I know some of the values you are looking for, but since we will be out on the boat within the next week, I will obtain the remainder that I cannot recall and post them for you. Thank you for watching and posting your question.

      Cecil, thank you for watching and for your question. The V-Berth is comprised of three cushions, forward, port, and starboard. There is ample storage under each cushion. Each storage compartment is finished in gelcoat which makes them very easy to clean.

      Thank you, Ranger Truth, for watching and for your question. Sundance Yachts verified the following information with Cutwater for me. Please remember that this is what I was told as of the day of this posting, and that Cutwater may change the terms at any time.
      1. 12 months warranty from Stem to Stern.
      2. Volvo offers a 2-year warranty on the diesel engine which Cutwater buys out to 5 years.
      3. 5-year structural warranty.
      All components of the warranty are transferable.

    Can seakeeper be installed?

    • @mattseclecticreviews3614
      @mattseclecticreviews3614  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yan, thank you for watching and for your question. I have not considered the possibility before now. There is space aft of the engine for a Seakeeper I. If you plan to also have a diesel genset, you are looking at considerable weight when adding another 365 lbs from a Seakeeper. I believe the boat would handle it, but checking with Cutwater beforehand is a good idea, especially when you consider the $14,900 price tag for the unit plus the expense of installation.

    What were the main reasons you choose a Cutwater vs. Ranger Tug?

    • @mattseclecticreviews3614
      @mattseclecticreviews3614  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greetings Mark and Leona. We really like the Ranger tug as well, both are excellent choices. At the time the comparable Ranger Tug model was over 8'6" in beam, and our moorage has strict rules to remain at said width or less. Also at the time there was no Ranger Tug dealer in our area. Hope this helps.
