Johnny 928 You might want to scroll down to the part that say Lexus IS the most reliable/dependable of all brands. www.jdpower.com/press-releases/jd-power-2018-us-vehicle-dependability-study
The LS500H is a very good car. I think you should of reviewed the Gas model. The 3.5L twin Turbo. Now that's the perfect car. I wish Lexus let you get the F Sport package with the Executive package. 416HP 442NM. That doesn't sound like a lot but with that engine it moves very quickly.
They don't have the Ls 500 with the twin turbo v6 in Europe, that's really bad though. I guess Lexus doesn't consider the European market very key really. Even the Australian market has the petrol version as well. Lexus needs to drop that engine variant in Europe. It's truly a remarkable car with that engine the best in class in tech, attention to details and luxury.
Samson Okoro Huh ⁉ In Europe the Twin turbo V6 is available ... it depends, maybe not available in every places, but most Europeans could buy and enjoy the TTV6 LS500 !
As an auto enthusiast who owns and loves driving a hybrid every day I’m sick of seeing reviews where all people do is complain about how the hybrid isn’t like the “normal” version. That’s because It ISN’T. Why can’t people appreciate the vehicle for what it actually is instead of what it’s not. It’s a HYBRID powered by two different power sources combined into one unit through insane engineering and computers. Is it a good hybrid or not? The only reason that all these hybrids and cars with CVTs have fake gears now and suck is because all of you keep btching about how they don’t feel “normal”. That’s because THEY AREN’T. Well made and calibrated CVT’s are smooth, efficient, and provide linear power and are relaxing and direct to drive. But you all wanted something that feels like an ol’ geared automatic. People if you want something powerful and sporty then GO BUY A SPORTS CAR. It’s not rocket science. Thank you.
This is the first time I’ve watched one of your reviews. All in all well done however you missed some very exceptional features of this magnificent automobile. It has level two autonomous drive functions along with advanced collision avoidance safety features. Since I’m not familiar with the laws of your country it may be that these features aren’t available. The good news regarding these features is they are class leading and offer the driver and passengers safety features that aren’t available on most other cars. Mercedes has similar safety features and Tesla also has level two autonomous features but after test driving both I felt the Lexus LS 500h was far better. The transmission is the most sophisticated currently on the market and is meant to simulate the 10 speed automatic transmission offered in the twin turbo LS 500. I’ve driven both and I’m impressed with both. Also this car, as you mentioned is very heavy and not that far from the weight of a Rolls Royce Phantom yet uses amazingly so little fuel. As you’ve probably guessed I own this car and have been very happy with my purchase. I replaced my current generation Audi A8L and pleased that I did.
J Mos congratulations on getting this car brother, I wish I were in your shoes. I own an Es 350 and I would love to own this asap. This is just the best car in its class right now and brother Mercedes doesn't have the world first adaptive safety system on collision avoidance like what's in this car. They all have the regular collision avoidance like on Volvo's etc which brakes automatically to avoid u hitting pedestrian and objects that intrude from no where. This Lexus with the advanced safety system plus has that but adds active steering. The car automatically brakes and steers you away from any pedestrian and object while keeping u in lane as much as possible. That's a world first by Lexus on this car. The new Es as well has added cyclists to the equation. So it automatically detects cyclists too and if any comes in your way it does the same thing as reiterated above. Recently a Volvo used by Uber killed a pedestrian despite all the safety systems it is supposed to have. So it seems for now the Lexus Ls is actually the safest car one can get today.
Autonomous drive is great - especially the adaptive cruise control feature, which allows the car to follow the one in front even when that car begins to overtake another - great fun on dual carriage roads where this system will take the car straight on to the opposite lane for a head on collision - great feature indeed.
I think the powertrain issue you talk about is only because its a hybrid. The LS 500 petrol engine will be the most popular choice and the fact the fuel consumption on it is 9.5l/100km is absolutely fantastic. Why would anyone bother with the hybrid.
@@-hamma875 all new cars are reliable for the first ~5 years and most people that buy new luxury cars don’t get them for more than that. So you’re saying that a corolla is better than a Bugatti just because it’s more reliable? What about performance, driving experiance, technology, interior quality, exterior design etc. etc.?
I'm sure that you know by now, but the drive train is V6 combined with ECVT (continuous), into regular 4 speed auto (hydrodynamic), then to rear wheels. Combined amount of speed ratios is 10. I however would prefer if there was only ECVT. That is what I have in my RX and ES. I just like this smoothness. But the 4 speed auto makes the experience jerky in comparison to sole ECVT. Of course, it also allows this car to achieve 250 kmh and the respectable highway economy.
Nice review. Loves the flush fitted side windows. It sounds like the wind noise is very much lower at high speed due to the design, correct me if I am wrong. Thank you.
1. there's no CVT 2. Maximum torque is 500 NM at IDLE 3. Peak output is at 6500 rpm, just as with a turbocharged engine 4. EV mode is only for low speeds, if you want to drive on battery power alone at high speeds you have to play with the accelerator pedal - take your foot off of the pedal, then depress to a lesser level than before. It's how all toyota hybrids work. You can press the EV button all day long, it's only for low speed driving (like in a traffic jam). please read the car's documentation next time before hopping in and saying it doesn't work.
But the point of not using turbos, is the point of lexus. NA engines live longer, and i dont know any car brand which has less problems or more durability than lexus, you litarliy buy a lexus ls for 500.000 km only doing Service, without any breaks
Sorry to see that as a reviewer you didn't get the slightest clue on the multi stage hybrid powertrain and the dual gearbox system, so no wonder you say you don't really get the added value of that.. that's because you got it and explain it totally wrong. There are actual gears, 4 of them, there are gear changes, not 4+6 virtual gears as you explain above. Shame you can't imagine it, it's a unique and brilliant idea. For the first 3 gears the CVT generates 3 different ratios each, thats 3 times 3, so 9 "gears" (3 of them are real), and the 10th gear is the 4th gear of the automatic gearbox which is again a real gear. The basis is that simple, although it can work slightly differently in different speeds. But there are real gears and real shifts.
Fantastic objective review, you said it all and i'm glad you aren't biased at all. The attention to details, luxury and tech in this car is class leading without a doubt. Can't wait to see you drive the v6 twin turbo variant, you would have a blast with that drive train. This hybrid version only available in Europe is not good enough, i would never consider this hybrid version talk-less of buying it. I have seen reviews of the v6 twin turbo engine and it's such a joy to drive and even quieter than this hybrid version. Great work, enjoyed the video, you said it as it is 100%. But the interior of this LS is just exquisite, you should see this interior in two tone lighter colours available, just breathtaking.
I really like your videos. Couldnt agree more. Beautiful car, but terrible engine notes. They dont need to stuff a turbo. Just put a DCT with a NA V6, and I guarentee things will improve.

Clive Sinclair noo. Just nice Stereotypes. Today BMW is more reliable: low service cost and service intervals 30000km not 12000km like in Lexus
