I trimmed my bushes bact to 6 in above the ground in late winter 2023 It's spring 2024 in lower Michigan..my shrubs are just showing some spring buds..just coming out of Dormasy....I have 5 of these ..love them
Normally you just remove 1/3 of the old wood, but you will have rejuvinated the plant. Next year you will not have to go so heavy and retain the previous seasons growth. Hope it goes OK.
Hi 👋🏼 Thank you for the video. We bought a home in the middle of winter ❄️ I had no clue what gift 🎁 the previous owners left us. A beautiful garden 🪴 filled with absolutely fabulous flowers 🌸 it’s a gift. Thank you. My question is this, I have no clue what the plants were till I bought the app for plant 🌱 can I prun my plants in July?
Thank you for a great video! I'm in US zone 6. I have a gorgeous variegated Weigela that I need to trim. WHEN do I trim it?! It bloomed beautifully this year but some of the branches have sparse leaves. Should I trim it now as it's lost it's flowers or is there a better time? I notice you're pruning yours at a different growing time. Thanks!
Hi Deanna, they both have 1/3 of the oldest wood taken out, either down to the ground or to a good shoot from the previous year. To maximise Forsythia flowers you can arch the branches a little bit. You can make them fountain like if the shape allows.
Tailler le weigelia en hiver n'importe quoi ce jardinier. Normalement c'est après la floraison comme tout les arbustes à fleurs ou encore en automne si vous voulez faire des boutures.
Hi Raoul, normally you do prune plants that flower on the previous seasons growth straight after they have flowered, to allow time for recovery, but you can do it in the dormant season if necessary, regards, Mike
Those black seed pods look like Baptisia. Would never have guessed it was Wiegela

Hi Havi, you prune it straight after it has finished flowering, cheers Mike

Hi Mike
I’ve contacted Derby loads of times but with no success. What time does the course start and what do we need to bring tomorrow?
Hi there, just picked this up, we start 9.15 and go until 12.30 on a Friday and on a Thursday night we do 6-9 pm, regards, Mike

Are we pruning this bush in the same way we prune forsythia? So that it is fountain like, from the ground up?
