Iori's Yagami clan used to be the Yakasani, which is another reference to the Yakasani no Magatama. Chizuru is the Mirror Keeper, referring to the Yata no Kagami. And to top it all off Kyo's girlfriend's last name is Kushinada, a direct reference the eighth daughter of Ashinazuchi and Tenazuchi

Geese did outright reject Terry's attempt to save his life after somewhat accidentally launching him off another extremely high structure admittedly. But yeah, basically the idea is that Terry is checking to make sure that they're still able to fight before going full force at them, because he's an extremely decent guy despite getting in brawls for a living.
I am not Japanese, but I was definitely a kid who grew up in the arcade era, enjoying fighting games from Capcom and SNK like Street Fighter and Samurai Shodown. @MrsEats Sure! :) For Japanese to English special move translations, check out the Art of Fighting series, Last Blade 1 & 2, Kizuna Encounter, Waku Waku 7, World Heroes, and also SvC Chaos which has both Capcom and SNK characters. There's also Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2 which Capcom made. For odd (at least to Americans) culture references, Sengoku 1 and 2 have a bunch. The first game confused the heck out of us kids back in 1991. Like, why am I a blue and purple cowboy with a katana fighting a giant skull with a wooden spoon in the clouds? Art of Fighting 2 has some pretty ridiculous translations with the pre-fight sequences and the endings. Lots of "Let's Play" videos on YT where you can see them. The ending quotes in Fatal Fury Special are also nuts. "Wubba Wubba, I'm in the pink today!" is legendary. Beyond that, I'd recommend checking out Matt McMuscles video on SNKs weird translations. Should provide some good references/inspiration for more content. Bonus challenge that isn't SNK, try to translate the voices in Street Fighter 1. They sound like robots screaming into pillows. Lol.
A LOT of Americans love Samurai and Ninjas. I especially love the Katana seems like a great weapon that was well thought out. Also Japan is legendary for it's cleanliness.

Here's another fun fact - I destroyed a guy in college on his own NeoGeo with Double Perfect, with his own fav character Hoahmaru in Shinobi Shodown. I then walked away. Now this guy, lets call him... "Steve" was supposedly the guy who ran the show. He had the NeoGeo on our floor, everyone came to his room. So I walked away....3 minutes later, his roomate begged me to come back because he had destroyed two chairs in rage. Yea... that was the good stuff.
SNK has denied any relation between the two characters. However what we do know is that Eiji Kisaragi is a direct descendant of Zantetsu, thus linking The Last Blade with Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury.
When it comes to the appeal of Samurai Shodown in America, I think part of it was the graphics for us. The graphics really made it stand out over many other games of the time. Seeing Earthquake towering over everyone was unlike anything we had seen before.

Samurai Shodown was pretty popular in the States. Wish it still was. The tension you feel in that game is unlike any other fighting game! It's almost addicting! But I'm loving these videos. I'm not going to expect much more like it, but I'll sub to you anyway. A channel called "Mrs. Eats" seems to have a little something in it for everyone!

You have no idea how popular SNK games were and still are in Latin America. In Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil, the fanbase is quite big. Trying to guess the characters' lines as a Portuguese speaker is a really fun exercise.
In English, the 8 Maidens technique is called Maiden Masher. This technique references the cursed pact that Iori's clan, the Yasakani made with Orochi in order to gain an advantage over the Kusanagi. The result of said pact resulted in the Yasakani having their flames, once similar to the Kusanagi gain a purple hue as well as learning the Forbidden Technique 8 Maidens. As for the 8 Maidens, that's referencing the number of women that are annually sacrificed to Orochi in order to appease it.
7:58 Thanks! I didnt play Samurai Showdown very often. But my favorite game character was the tournment judge. Every chance I had, I keep my ears next to arcade soundbox to try to repeat what the judge is saying at every begining of a match. Now I know that the announcer Kuroko says is: "Iza! Jinjouni! Ipponme, shobu!" Its was awsome, in a old time that games in my place speaks few short sentences. Very cool, although Kuroko says "Ipponme" in second match too.

You have no idea how popular SNK games were and still are in Latin America. In Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil, the fanbase is quite big. Trying to guess the characters' lines as a Portuguese speaker is a really fun exercise.
In English, the 8 Maidens technique is called Maiden Masher. This technique references the cursed pact that Iori's clan, the Yasakani made with Orochi in order to gain an advantage over the Kusanagi. The result of said pact resulted in the Yasakani having their flames, once similar to the Kusanagi gain a purple hue as well as learning the Forbidden Technique 8 Maidens. As for the 8 Maidens, that's referencing the number of women that are annually sacrificed to Orochi in order to appease it.

7:58 Thanks! I didnt play Samurai Showdown very often. But my favorite game character was the tournment judge. Every chance I had, I keep my ears next to arcade soundbox to try to repeat what the judge is saying at every begining of a match. Now I know that the announcer Kuroko says is: "Iza! Jinjouni! Ipponme, shobu!" Its was awsome, in a old time that games in my place speaks few short sentences.
Very cool, although Kuroko says "Ipponme" in second match too.

This was a fun video to watch and very well edited. It made me laugh. Also, I grew up with these game in the arcades in the 90s and still enjoy the SNK series of KOF. Good stuff. Love it. I wish I could learn to speak Japanese.
