8:48 in response to the question asked, about how it can be that the ancient language is so void of the practical words of survival, I think the answer lies in the somewhat limited genre of the texts that come in it. Apart from the odd reference to the actual surroundings in a metaphor or simile, old Hebrew texts are mostly about prophets, praising the Almighty, leading a religious life and prayer. Rarely do the suroundings influence the actual historical events directly as to provide the reader with such words. I think we would have the same problem in English if we were to navigate everyday life in a modern English-speaking country having studied only Shakespeare.

As an important white component of South Africa, certain Afrikaners placed apartheid as a legal system in 1948, even though apartheid had de facto existed as early as 1652. This element believed wholeheartedly that they were 'chosen' based on a myth through a battle in 1838 - similar to Zionists at the present, but in this case based entirely on a biblical myth. As a legal system apartheid in South Africa was finally put to bed in 1994 as a result of complex negotiations. Apartheid, as it evolved, was regarded by the world as a distinct threat to world peace. Ironically, Joe Biden was particularly vocal as an anti-apartheid activist when he served in the US Senate. It’s funny how they spent so much time trying to create a language and that language isn’t even good. I mean, it is hard to say if a language is good or bad, but like Hebrew has two characters , Alef and Ayin, that do literally nothing and are just place holders, there are many characters that make the same sound and the rules with what vowel makes what sound are completely arbitrary. Some letters just look completely different when they’re at the end of words but others just don’t do that.
English orthography has a lot of idiosyncrasies too, arguably worse than Israeli Hebrew. Aleph can still be realized as a stop in some words, I believe.
8:34 - let me answer that: when a language is only attested in liturgical texts (i.e. the old testament and some explanatory additions) its vocabulary becomes highly specialised. not to mention how taxonomical names of species were not around in ancient times, nor that customs and everyday life has changed a lot. if we only had the qur'an we wouldn't even know how to say 'sycamore' in arabic. same is true for hebrew and 'salmon'. don't get me wrong, i'm (partly) jewish and strictly anti-zionist, but this question ignores basic historical linguistic concepts and almost seems to suggest that jews never lived in cannan/palestine lol..

Perlman's reinvention of Hebrew was already the 2nd in history; Maimonides did the same centuries earlier, and again using Arabic as the base, especially for the grammar.
@AaronGeller : “Know that the Hebrew language is ancient and closely related to Arabic... Many meanings of words and idiomatic expressions in the Torah are clarified by understanding their parallels in Arabic.” - Maimonides, "Guide for the Perplexed" (translated by Shlomo Pines), Part I, Ch. 30. "Maimonides, like other Jewish intellectuals of his time, approached the study of Hebrew through the prism of Arabic linguistics. The precision and systematic approach of Arabic grammar served as a critical tool for analyzing biblical and liturgical Hebrew.” - David B. Ruderman, "Jewish Thought and Scientific Discovery in Early Modern Europe", Ch. 3. "Maimonides owed much to the Arabic linguistic tradition, as demonstrated in his grammatical interpretations and philological expositions in works like the Mishneh Torah and Guide for the Perplexed. His understanding of Hebrew morphology and syntax is frequently indebted to Arabic models.” - David W. Talmage, "Saadia Gaon and Maimonides as Linguists", Journal of the American Oriental Society, p. 27. "The Arabic influence on Maimonides is unmistakable; his analysis of Hebrew often mirrors Arabic grammatical constructs, reflecting his immersion in the linguistic culture of his time.” - Geoffrey Khan, "Hebrew and Arabic Grammar: Mutual Influences and Developments", Ch. 4. "In liturgical and biblical analysis, Maimonides demonstrated a systematic application of Arabic grammar, reflecting the broader trend among Jewish scholars of his milieu. This approach allowed for a more precise interpretation of Hebrew texts, marrying linguistic rigor with theological clarity.” - Eric L. Ormsby (ed.), "Moses Maimonides and His Time", p. 115.

This would have been more interesting and compelling had you used actual examples rather than making claims without being substantiated. I’m also unsure how you steal words when the concept of stealing is intertwined with the idea of ownership and personal/collective property. Aramaic became the language of Jews before the time of Jesus in the first century and there have been Aramaic for a long time. Perhaps the reason why we see certain letters in Hebrew have two different phonemes is because of Aramaic influence. The Talmud was written in Aramaic and religious Jews are expected to learn it as well… not to mention the book of Daniel is mostly written in Aramaic. As far as Arabic is concerned, Hebrew has absorbed Arabic borrowing from the medieval period and continues to the present. Jews of Arabic countries would also bring words into the language. Ben Yehuda may have believed that Arabic came from Hebrew but he prioritized Semitic words over Indo-European words. None of this is a secret and you say Israelis are not open about this, but yet this isn’t some obscured fact.

The Talmud is made up of two books, the Mishna in Hebrew, and the Gemara in Aramaic l, though the commantairies are mostly Hebrew. And yes Ben Yehuda was really concerned with Hebrew being overrun with lone words, his process of making new vocab was actually pretty complex and genius, and yes Arabic was preferred for lone words because of its relative similarities
A very obvious oversight by this video's author is that Hebrew has remained very much alive, if not in widespread use for conversation. All decisions of Jewish Law (Halacha and Jurisprudence) and in Hebrew. A vocabulary evolved to deal with the facts and questions concerning developments in technology, politics. Thousands of books on contemporary and historical subjects have been written - in Hebrew. Furthermore, Arabic is not the "language of the people the Zionists claim doesn't exist (the Palestinians)". Arabic has a classical form and a family of dialects. Classical Arabic is not generally used for daily conversation. Arabic dialects are not mutually comprehensible and using Classical Arabic doesnt necessarily help. Classical and Modern Hebrew are much more so than their Arabic cousins.

There's also an additional aspect to this as well: Maimondes and his contemporaries created a medieval Hebrew language much in the same way, by taking Arabic grammatical structure to understand the grammar and linguistic structure of Hebrew. They didn't lie however and say that it had no connection to Arabic; indeed they'd often write medieval Hebrew using Arabic letters as well. Such is the respect they had for Arabic in elucidating their understanding of their religious tongue. Shame on the Zionist movement for their many atrocities.

Stilling? Look at the names of the days in arabic, they are the same as in ancient Hebrew. Yom Shabat is yom asbeth. So who stole from who? It’s just an example. Ben in Hebrew for son, Ibn in Arabic. Yes we borrowed so they did. Hebrew was not only used for praying, there is a whole literature in that languages. Eliezer adapted to modern times and he borrowed from Arabic and Aramaic , so? How you say eggplant in England? Aubergine? French or Arabic? Macho or Moron are words in Spanish, it’s the nature of all languages. Stilling? That’s too much and kind of stupid
This is the whole "i dont hate jews just zionists" bs attitude in one video. No one denies hebrew was revived, its taught in schools Hebrew is the original language of jews, its found in archeological evidence from more than 2000 years ago. Books like the mishna were written in hebrew and were studied all throughout the jewish diaspora. New books were written in hebrew even in the middle ages. I mean, seriously the Bible, the old testament, is in hebrew. So to make the language usable for everyday life they added words. Its not a conspiracy for gods sake So it burrowed from other languages, so what? No one in israel denies it, some might be unaware to the details but that makes sense considering it happened more than a century ago. All languages do this. Try speaking English without using french words. You claim zionists wont admit wrongdoing but anti zionists never listen to criticism. All they want is to accuse jews (and say its ok because its just zionists) no matter the lies they have to use

What you see as a stilling I see it as a renaissance. Eliezer Ben Yehuda is a Jewish hero who deserves all the praise and honor. Modern Hebrew is a miracle, a revival of people expelled from their land and now gather again. Today millions speak Hebrew. You can say what you may, but Hebrew was always present. Biblical Hebrew and Fus7a Arabic are cousin languages. Biblical Hebrew eventually passed away and became purely liturgical. Fus7a can be liturgical, but Modern Standard Arabic is not that different as to be a completely new language. In the revival of Hebrew, rishmi (official) came from رسمي, retsini (serious) from رصىن, and adiv (courteous, polite) from ادىب. There are many other examples. You can go to Langfocus’ video “Arabic Influence on Modern Hebrew.” Langfocus (Paul) is Canadian and has no dog in this fight, but he documents the same thing. Modern Hebrew had to be created as part of the Zionist ideology. You guys make such great bagels and knish, but why does NYC make the best - and not, say, Tel Aviv? Hebrew came from the Pharoahs out of Exodus in 1530s BC. God hasnt broken covenant with the Jewish people and there was nothing unnatural about Jews going back to their own land. Palestine never was a state but was an invention from Roman Emperor Hadrian.
Your video are very nice. I think most people do not realize that Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic is mostly Arabic. Hebrew Bible has lots of Arabic words. "Bismillah", "Ayatollah", "Abdullah", "Muhammed", "Islam", Muslim", "Quran", "Hajj", "Masjid" are all Biblical Hebrew words. It is very interesting to see what these words mean in the Bible. They mostly have same meaning as Arabic. For example Hezbollah are Blessed in the Bible. Hezbollah = Hezb + Allah. (Nation of God/Allah) in the Bible. God of the Bible is Allah.
you talk a lot of your own opinion and give zero example and evidence. Yes hebrew borrowed from Arabic but dont forget that quran us heavily based on the hebrew bible. many names that you use in Arabic are hebrew origin, you cant even tell the name meaning because its from hebrew. Yaacov, Yishaq, Moshe and ill give you litte example: The name Zakaria means in hebrew remembering god, in arabic it would be thakaralla, so why do you use the hebrew version?
Hebrew was always written by Jews, for 3000 years now. just like Arabic was by Arabs. Their spoken languages were a mix of the vernacular, with Hebrew & Aramaic. Nobody really speaks Fusha, yet you wouldn't say "Arabic is dead". Filastin itself is a borrowed word from Greek, yet you wouldn't say "Palestine cannot exist without Greek".
Wrong on just about every level: 1) Language is one, but not necessarily the only, thing that can unify a group of people as a nation. Many nations are multilingual. That Jews have spoken and written in Yiddish and Ladino in addition to Hebrew over the centuries does not mean that they were not and are not one people. Nations are defined by shared culture, history, and understood ties. Language is only one such possible tie, not "the" determining factor in whether a group of people constitute a nation. 2) Although Hebrew may have fallen out of use as a spoken language over the centuries, it remained an important unifying force among Jews in many other ways--as the language of religious liturgy, as the language in which religious documents such as ketubot (marriage contracts) were written, as the language of religious scholarship. When rabbis sought answers to questions of Jewish law from other rabbis, they did so in Hebrew. 3) That a language coins new words or borrows from other languages does not prove that it is fake. The word for "telephone" in virtually every country from Madrid to Moscow is "telephone" with slight variations in spelling and pronunciation; the world is derived from Greek roots. That does not prove Spanish, English, French, German, or Russian are not "real languages." 4) Hebrew is not the only language to have been brought back from extinction or near-extinction because a people saw it as an important element of its culture worth preserving. There are many efforts around the world to revive dead languages or preserve dying ones. That Hebrew is the most successful of these efforts does not prove that it is somehow devious. 5) The lack of Hebrew words for things found in contemporary Israel can be explained by the long exile of Jews from the land. There are words in the Hebrew Bible referring to specific bird and plant species that can no longer be clearly identified. Moreover, the flora and fauna in a land can change over time. North America was once overrun with buffalo and passenger pigeons, but buffalo have mostly died off and the passenger pigeon has gone extinct. 6) There is no such thing as "stealing" from another language as languages are not property. 7) Modern Hebrew is actually extremely similar to Biblical Hebrew in both grammar and vocabulary--so much so that rabbinical schools don't offer separate courses in them. That Hebrew may have borrowed a few words from Arabic roots (which are, in fact, often similar to Hebrew roots in any case) is irrelevant. Words for revolvers, telephones, and steamships are not particularly sacred in Judaism. 8) It is hypocritical to praise Arabic's function as a unifying force among Muslims but see Hebrew's similar function for Jews as somehow proof of duplicity. 9) That there are few other examples of a religious, liturgical language being revived as a spoken language does not prove that Hebrew's revival as a spoken language is "unnatural." It is the most natural thing in the world that an exiled people who had spoken many languages in their countries of exile would revive their own language on returning to their own homeland. Your arguments are not supported by any understanding of Jewish history or linguistics. They're antisemitic claptrap of the worst kind.
Idk about Israeli Hebrew being "extremely" similar to Biblical Hebrew in grammar, but it's a legitimate dialect of current Canaanite, and its structure makes even more sense when you consider Hebrew's development post-biblically. I also don't know about Hebrew's revival being the "most natural" thing to happen. Nonetheless, it is a cool feat. Even at the turn of the common era, it is thought that many, if not most, Jews had shifted away from spoken Hebrew to languages such as Aramaic.
@tyrone2127 Aramaic is written in the same script as Hebrew. Moreover, the languages are very similar, like Spanish and Italian are today. If you can read & write one, you can get one by in the other.
Titles of Jesus (pbuh) is in Biblical Hebrew/Aramaic are "Abdullah" (Servant of Isaiah 53), "Muslim" (Servant of Isaiah 42) , and "Muhammed" ("Altogether lovely" from Song of Solomon 5:16). The is information is from Brown Drivers and Briggs Christian Bible dictionary.
As Netanyahu said on a visit to the US:
"Well, Jesus spoke Hewbrew after all"
And everyone knowing their Bible and history (so not American mainstream) thought:
"No, he spoke Aramaic. And if he did, it wouldn't be the modern Hebrew of today"...

Perlman's reinvention of Hebrew was already the 2nd in history; Maimonides did the same centuries earlier, and again using Arabic as the base, especially for the grammar.
Arabic grammar was not used as the base for Hebrew.
@AaronGeller :
“Know that the Hebrew language is ancient and closely related to Arabic... Many meanings of words and idiomatic expressions in the Torah are clarified by understanding their parallels in Arabic.”
- Maimonides, "Guide for the Perplexed" (translated by Shlomo Pines), Part I, Ch. 30.
"Maimonides, like other Jewish intellectuals of his time, approached the study of Hebrew through the prism of Arabic linguistics. The precision and systematic approach of Arabic grammar served as a critical tool for analyzing biblical and liturgical Hebrew.”
- David B.
His understanding of Hebrew morphology and syntax is frequently indebted to Arabic models.”
- David W. Talmage, "Saadia Gaon and Maimonides as Linguists", Journal of the American Oriental Society, p. 27.
"The Arabic influence on Maimonides is unmistakable; his analysis of Hebrew often mirrors Arabic grammatical constructs, reflecting his immersion in the linguistic culture of his time.”
- Geoffrey Khan, "Hebrew and Arabic Grammar: Mutual Influences and Developments", Ch. 4.
"In liturgical and biblical analysis, Maimonides demonstrated a systematic application of Arabic grammar, reflecting the broader trend among Jewish scholars of his milieu. This approach allowed for a more precise interpretation of Hebrew texts, marrying linguistic rigor with theological clarity.”

Brief yet amazing explanation. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate your support.
My grandfather often told my father stories about their ancestors. According to these tales, their family lineage traces back to Israel during the Second Temple period. They were later exiled to Iraq, then migrated to Yemen, and eventually my grand father settled in rural Ethiopia before returning to Israel.
Despite this complex history, my father was remarkably fluent in Biblical Hebrew. While it's true that ancient languages like Hebrew lack modern concepts like "atom" or "computer," languages evolve over time due to various factors, including cultural exchange, technological advancements, and historical events. Therefore, it's not surprising that Hebrew has adapted to incorporate new ideas and terminology from other languages.
Hebrew, eternal flame,
Ignites the soul, defies the name.
Though eyes may weep, and hearts may yearn,
Hebrew's spirit will forever burn.
Rest assured, Arabic does not have a word for "atom" or "computer" either. Heck, even English doesn't for "atom", it's Greek.
Where did you get thesw misconceptions about Zionism from, including their concept of the Hebrew language?
Great work❤

Nationalism always has its potential harm in claiming its portion in the world, but lying and stealing is something that can be avoided simply by being genuinely honest to yourself and the world.
It's an ancient language not invented by zionist.
Paul does a much better job actually giving examples and describing the relationship between Arabic and Hebrew:
th-cam.com/video/BByig02vJWM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0LpQIJcd53wq6W-O
I remember when the official policy in Israel was to shun Yiddish. I don’t remember the logic, but it did change so that now Yiddish is taught and some Israeli universities. What I love about Yiddish is how much of it has crept into American English. Some British people I know turn their heads when they hear words like gnosh and mensch and schlep, klutz, mishigas, etc. I realize this means little to Yemeni Jews, but it does say something about lingua franca and Jewish communities world over.
7:54 oh ffs this is getting ridiculous. It seems the behaviours and habits of these early european jews that were noted before are merely inherent qualities. Ones that made them very unpopular, but interesting that it truly is a "characteristic"

You’re ignoring the fact that Jews all over the world and throughout the ages have studied the same holy texts, in the same languages (Hebrew and Aramaic). Thus they could communicate with Jews of other countries whose secular languages were of those countries. This ability to maintain communication over space and time has united Jews from everywhere and everywhen into a unified people. Inventing, borrowing words to make the ancient language fit modern life? There’s no copyright on words, and most languages borrow words from other languages without giving credit. I think your talk in this video is meant to encourage listeners to despise Zionists rather than inform the listeners about how Hebrew became a modern spoken language.
"Muslim" is more than 4000 years old word. It is from S-L-M root. From Arabic/Hebrew سليم "Salem/Salim" as in JeruSalem. The word "JruSalem" links with the Arabic words "Muslim" and "Islam". Muslim = Mu + Salem. "Mu" is prefix.
Mesilim (Sumerian: 𒈨𒁲),[3] also spelled Mesalim (c. 2600 BC), was lugal (king) of the Sumerian. Orthographic borrowing from Sumerian 𒁲 (silim, “to be whole, healthy”).

Well, the Zionists were definitely successful in recreating the closest version to Hebrew that was possible back then, given the tools and resources they had. As they were also successful in recreating their state, in creating their democracy and liberties, their army won many wars, their universities are renown, and their societal, economic and political life is vibrant. well to be fair, taking the example of arabic, the language of the koran hasn't been spoken as a day to day language for at least a millenium.
so in a sense the modern standard arabic fus7a is a modern creation based on a "dead" language, that is, the language of the koran.
the modern spoken dialects are very different not only from koranic arabic, but also from each other, and even when speaking fus7a today, most endings are dropped, and there's probably not a single person who exclusively speaks fus7a.

Or maybe Aramaic is it’s own language
What a high quality video!
you talk a lot of your own opinion and give zero example and evidence.
@@davidtrak2679 why have you commented 500 comments crying about this? Go back to poland, your ancestral home😂😂😂
Wrong on just about every level:
1) Language is one, but not necessarily the only, thing that can unify a group of people as a nation.
That does not prove Spanish, English, French, German, or Russian are not "real languages."
4) Hebrew is not the only language to have been brought back from extinction or near-extinction because a people saw it as an important element of its culture worth preserving.

Antisemitic Troll Alert !
@tyrone2127
Aramaic is written in the same script as Hebrew.
Thank you for sharing knowledge ❤
My pleasure and I am glad it resonated.
thank you for the captions
Besides the fact that modern Hebrew is not pronounced the way it was supposed to be pronounced
