One of the best endings to a Dark Souls playthrough episode. @@Truestoned0 so, I have yet to play DS1 (ruining any future playthrough for myself but it's all good) but from what I've seen most people take out Ornstein first I think. Still, worked out either way!
@Mordraug I honestly think they've toned down the Godskin Duo from the first few months. If you highlight the Noble and focus on him, I find the apostle will mostly stand back and throw black flame. Sometimes if you space them wrong they will both gank you, but from watching Mati's playthrough here it looks like O&S could do the same thing. The Duo isn't my favorite boss fight at all. But I don't think it's even the worst duo in the game. Doesn't seem like they did duo fights well in this one.

Got to say, I completely and utterly disagree and so does most souls fans/reviewers (that I've seen). After Anor Londo it starts to feel rushed with some of the worst areas in the souls series. Obviously it's all subjective but things like the ghosts make the final stretch almost unbearable for me.
Ornstein and Smogh is fun bossfight with an odd quirk. 2 bosses, 2 souls, 2 unique soul weapons, only 1 soul received for the victory. As dragon slayers they practiced the art of consuming the souls of their fallen partners to gain strength and keep fighting, which leads to phase 2, whichever you face as the second phase is the soul you get for winning. Ornsteins is used to make the dragon slayers spear, Smogh's is used to make his hammer, the spear being a dex weapon the hammer being strength.
Killing Smough first is a rare thing most people feel is the hardest option, but since you now have Ornstein's Soul, you can make the probably best quality (dex and strength) weapon in the game, the Dragonslayer Spear. It's definitely got my favorite moveset alongside the Gravelord Sword. Making this isn't as straightforward as making boss weapons in Elden Ring, as you need a "+10 Spear" to even craft the weapon at the blacksmith, BUT you won't have to worry about it since you got the lightning spear from the mimic in Sens, which for some reason just instantly qualifies as a +10 spear. Hope this helps

This has quickly become one of my favorite playthroughs of this game. The genuine excitement, enjoyment of the lore, and playing at your own pace. Congrats on 10k Mati! You deserve it 😊
Ornstein and Smough are my favorite boss fight in the whole game. The atmosphere and music are amazing and the lore makes the fight hit so much more. The fight feels manageable unlike the godskin duo from Elden Ring. Smough is sluggish and can take a while to get to you while Ornstein is aggressive and able to close the gap very quickly. The pillars in the arena can even be used to help you break the two of them up a bit if they're too close to each other. Another banger video as always man.
@@matiasgago It's not really necessary at this point, Mati. You're doing great without it. Having that shield is a tradeoff. I never used it, personally.
Hey Mati, I have two tips for you. No spoilers ofc. 1) Read the description for Ring of the Sun's Firstborn: You picked it up at the secret bonfire that was below the bridge. I'd recommend always reading descriptions for anything that has to do with gwyn, but especially if you hear anything about his "firstborn". One day you'll thank yourself that you paid attention to his lore. 2) You have an item called "Lloyd's Talisman" in your inventory. Next time you spot a mimic chest, try throwing it on the mimic before hitting it with a weapon. You'll be very amused.
a masterpiece after all, you will be crazy if you read through all the stories in it, they are the real soul of this game. love to watch your journey, keep going and enjoy it dude! thanks for the sharing!
@@matiasgago you should also upgrade your pyro flame with laurentius back at firelink shrine. without upgrades the damage is going to be pretty disappointing. pyromancy is awesome in DS1 because the strength of the spells scales only with the upgrades to the glove instead of being tied to a caster stat like with sorcery or miracles. It’s a great way to work in a few more options to your move set without having to invest in stats that don’t help your melee. it is rather expensive to upgrade though, with a total of 20 tiers of upgrades (5 are locked behind an NPC who you haven’t discovered yet)
Tips for recognizing Mimic chests : The chain on the right side is facing you instead of away. Also, you can slightly see them breathing. In doubt, hit it. You can also use Lloyd's Talismans on them to put them to sleep, which allows you to pick up their item without having to kill them.
Hell Yeah ! Congrats on besting Pikachu and Snorlax :D Can't wait to see you read the description for the Lordvessel, it has a pretty cool perk ;) Also, you might wanna explore a bit more of Anor Londo there's a cool thing that you haven't seen (regarding that hole in the fence you missed), and also going back to onion knight to progress his quest. If you want of course, no pressure !
You can return to the tutorial area by going up the elevator in firelink and rolling off of it when you can. From there you need to go up until you come across a crow's nest. Going back there will help you with that big painting.
I'm so glad I found your channel. Dark Souls 1 is something I've always wanted to experience, but I just can't deal with the slow combat of these earlier dark souls games (I've played all the later ones; Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring). So I'm experiencing DS1 for the first time at the same time you are. And I gotta say, a very enjoyable playthrough so far :)
Just some helpful tips (I hope) one, you can parry those silver knights, don't need to constantly backstab. Two, if you're really having that much difficulty with a boss next time, see if you can summon (summons were a feature put into the game for a reason, they were MEANT to help.) Three, look around more, you took the longer route to the boss each time it seemed, going up the staircase rather than go through the two knights on the first floor to just hit up that quicker route. I'll await your next vid, but REALLY hope you take this stuff into consideration man!
the pain you were feeling at just trying to get past the archers was the pain i felt trying to get past them myself. the joy i felt at seeing a bonfire inside the castle was indescribable. i was so happy to not have to run past those archers again, least not until new game plus
I remember fighting the duo for the first time. I didn't know they were OP. For some reason, my dad decided to visit me while I was in the middle of the fight, sat down by my side, and tried to talk with me, but I was too focused to think and speak. He is not a fan of games, but he started watching how I played, and so we sat in silence for almost an hour. Once I died for the second or 3rd time he just stood up and walked away. I swear, if at that point he'd say to me "git good' I would snap his neck ;]
This was the most epic end to an episode with that music and everything. I almost cry when I got the Lordvessel because I was bitching about not being able to warp between bonfires lmao
Really enjoying the playthrough. Seeing each discovery reminds me why I love this game! Big tip that I think will help, if you learn to time it right you can get in a double gulp of the flask. If you miss the timing you'll have to do the full animation again but if you hit the button just as you drink the first gulp, you'll take a second. Can't wait to see the rest of your adventure, I hope we find out what was up with that big painting... EDIT: Congrats on 10k bro!
Always nice to see others react to the souls games for the first time and experience them too of course. Anor Londo is without a doubt the most gorgeous area in the first Dark Souls with probably the best boss fight in the game, just walking around the place just feels great even for souls vets returning to the game and seeing it again, love this place myself. Recently even got my dad(who's 57 now) into the game and even though he says he finds this game to be pretty difficult he still likes it and oddly enough he just finished the boss fight here a week ago although I kinda did help him a bit but he's old so ya know it's probably more rough on him. As for a little hint with the mimics(the fake chests that grab you when you try to open them) if you look at the chain that's attached to the chest and if it's facing you it's a mimic, facing away from you it's a regular chest, hope that helps and best of luck to you and the rest of your play through 👍
It has been such a long journey, to see you thinking just like any souls veteran it makes me feel so proud :') I still remember when I teached you about stamina management:')
Congrats on the 10k!!! 🎉 You will notice that a strong bow and arrows is a must for Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls for melee builds. You can use bows to pull enemies out of groups to attack one at a time.
At this point, losing 20,000 souls is like losing one level or none at all. And the enemies give so much more souls than usual so i wouldn't stress about it too much. I started playing the game cuz of you man haha. Keep it up!
Great video, my dude. I've been looking forward to this one. Welcome to the infamous Anor Londo, Mati. I have an oval sticker on the door to my bedroom that says "Anor Londo." No other stickers. Just that. It was my absolute favorite place to invade other players, and I spent a couple thousand hours there in invasions and co-op. In the original game (pre-remastered), you could invade people just as they were encountering the archers. It was insult to injury, and it was fantastic. The original game was so much cooler than the remastered version, IMHO. Every single one of us was eager to see how you'd do entering Anor Londo. It's a classic gauntlet of challenges. Going in blind is pure torture. Once you know your way around, it's a ton of fun. Congrats on beating Ornstein and Smough (pronounced like "smo," rhymes with "snow," which is weird because there's another character in the game named "Gough," which is pronounced "goff."). They're considered one of the hardest bosses in gaming history, always high on any list. FromSoft had to keep upping the challenge with future games. Melania and Orphan of Kos both descend from O&S in that way. I think you're going to be shocked by the lore of this game, and the emotions that come with it. I got a little teary when you encountered Gwynevere. It really is a crucial turning point of the game (most would call it the end of the first half), and nothing is quite as it seems. Keep up the great work! I sincerely hope you're loving this masterpiece.
for anyone new to dark souls, if you'd prefer not fighting Mimics here is some advice 1. They can be easily identified by the direction of the chain on the side, if it's facing the front of the chest it's a Mimic, if its facing the back it's safe. 2. If you have a 'Lloyd's Talisman' you can toss it at the Mimic once identified and it will put the creature to sleep, allowing you to safely obtain the item within it's mouth Hope this helps
I am not sure if anyone wrote this already, but the chests that eat you, are called mimics and you can recognize them. There is a chain on their side. If the end of the chain is pointing towards you, it is a mimic. If the end of the chain is pointing away from you, it is a simple chest. Hope this was helpful. Keep up the good work! :D
Actually the snoring sound is just the elevator going up and down! Its an amazing choice, since it's part of the lore, that the whole Anor Londo is abandoned, it enchances the feeling of emptiness of the city!
I'm loving your DS1 journey man. So wholesome to see you overcome this brutal masterpiece of a game and the joy it brings when you do overcome the challenges of the game. (P.s for next episode, take a close look at the options you have when you sit at a bonfire 😊) Praise the sun ☀️
@Matias Gago You've caught the rhythm of the game and are fighting brilliantly! I recommend using those black knights to practice parrying. They helped me improve a lot. Congrats on defeating not only O&S, but the real boss of the area, that folkin' ledge!
Congrats on 10K! It is so awesome to see your channel grow! Pikachu and Snorlax is indeed one of the toughest bosses in this game, if not the whole series, but you did it, and the reward was well more than worth it. To be able to interact with the painting you need to do something that's quite well hidden, look it up if you're interested! You won't be dissapointed. ;)

Can't wait to see you read the description for the Lordvessel, it has a pretty cool perk ;)
Also, you might wanna explore a bit more of Anor Londo there's a cool thing that you haven't seen (regarding that hole in the fence you missed), and also going back to onion knight to progress his quest.
If you want of course, no pressure !
Good advice. Both of those things are pretty crucial to the full experience. I hope he can get Onion-bro's full questline. Not easy.

You can return to the tutorial area by going up the elevator in firelink and rolling off of it when you can. From there you need to go up until you come across a crow's nest. Going back there will help you with that big painting.
The elation after getting past the archers! Praise the sun!
The rollercoaster of emotions in this 1ep, damn man! Pain, and more pain
But what a way to end the ep! Did not expect those
3:45 that's why i love watching you play, you look around a lot and foreshadow most dangers
Lets go! I was waiting for a new upload, but didn't expect one soo soon :)
Can’t get enough of this games 😁
Mate those archers are a rite of passage aren't they. Congrats on 10k by the way bro, well deserved! I hope you're doing the DLC for this game :D
c'mon man give us some more dark souls, it's been 4 days :( I'M ADDICTED
Congrats, you've found the most amazing chest in the game!
Noice 😎
I'm so glad I found your channel. Dark Souls 1 is something I've always wanted to experience, but I just can't deal with the slow combat of these earlier dark souls games (I've played all the later ones; Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring). So I'm experiencing DS1 for the first time at the same time you are.
And I gotta say, a very enjoyable playthrough so far :)
cap off, lock-on off, fast roll, me : he is learning, he is the one!
There is oh so much that you have missed in Anor Londo, you must remember to return and explore. But first perhaps, you should remember the Crow...
My favourite place in the souls series! Glad you have made it this far. Good Luck!
Somehow we made it 😅
This was the most epic end to an episode with that music and everything. I almost cry when I got the Lordvessel because I was bitching about not being able to warp between bonfires lmao
Def one of the most epic moments in the souls games I’ve played so far period haha and man I was praying we’d get teleportation at some point too 😅
Congratulations for that 10k buddy, love im not watching this serie but i appreciate you for being here ❤️❤️
Thank you my man I really appreciate that ❤️
51:59-52:02 That's what makes this pair brilliant. That was a total setup.
O&S is such an iconic fight and one of the best duo Fights they've ever done. Good job in taking them down!
Those archers. Those two. The flashbacks! Congrats on 10k Mati, you desrve it 🔥
Really enjoying the playthrough.
The double-drink is the most underrated skill in DS1
Taking a break from souls games myself. For God of war ragnarok. But I still watch your videos 😎
And 10K jeeej!!!
Appreciate that bro
Bruh you handled Uber Ornstein like a pro, well done and congrats on the 10k!!
Appreciate you bro took a min but it was worth it 🫡
@@matiasgago please dont speak to frampt you should go to new londo ruins first you should open the full story💗
I really loooved the last run and the reward scene to end the episode :D truely felt the commitment in that one
As for a little hint with the mimics(the fake chests that grab you when you try to open them) if you look at the chain that's attached to the chest and if it's facing you it's a mimic, facing away from you it's a regular chest, hope that helps and best of luck to you and the rest of your play through 👍
Just had a rough day, thank you for being here when I need your uploads the most
Hope your day and week only get better from here brotha, all the best!
did he actually do the full run back for ornstein and smough not realizing the shortcut he opened cut the run back by half lol
31:40 yeah that moment when you get past the anor londo archers is amazing
Damn near shed a tear my brother
@@matiasgago 😂
It has been such a long journey, to see you thinking just like any souls veteran it makes me feel so proud :') I still remember when I teached you about stamina management:')
Congrats on the 10k!!! 🎉 You will notice that a strong bow and arrows is a must for Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls for melee builds. You can use bows to pull enemies out of groups to attack one at a time.
I watched a few entire playthroughs of DS1, and I still suffered as you are in Anor Londo - You are not alone.
"I'm just gonna smash ever chest I see now just to be safe." Congratulations sir you now know the Mimic check rule haha. Awesome stuff man!
At this point, losing 20,000 souls is like losing one level or none at all. And the enemies give so much more souls than usual so i wouldn't stress about it too much. I started playing the game cuz of you man haha. Keep it up!
Havel's set is like the ultimate heavy armor set and the thing most heavy armor builds want to wear it in the end
Congrats on 10K!
You deserve it and more my dude!
And btw, there is another...NPC...in Anor Londo
One of our favourites!
Depending of who dies first the other gets stronger, smough kills ornstein to power himself up, but he is just a ilusion anyways.
I always look forward to new uploads from you! I am glad you are getting recognition for great content.
Thank you my man means the world
The original and best double team From's done. Congratulations on your victory! However i fear the worst is yet to come. Good luck Matias!
for anyone new to dark souls, if you'd prefer not fighting Mimics here is some advice
1. They can be easily identified by the direction of the chain on the side, if it's facing the front of the chest it's a Mimic, if its facing the back it's safe.
2. If you have a 'Lloyd's Talisman' you can toss it at the Mimic once identified and it will put the creature to sleep, allowing you to safely obtain the item within it's mouth
Hope this helps
I am not sure if anyone wrote this already, but the chests that eat you, are called mimics and you can recognize them. There is a chain on their side. If the end of the chain is pointing towards you, it is a mimic. If the end of the chain is pointing away from you, it is a simple chest. Hope this was helpful. Keep up the good work! :D
Yes mate!! Been looking forward to this. Love your content Mati 🤘
Appreciate you brotha 👊
God the Anor Londo Archers were easily the hardest part of this area for me. Good job getting through that
Most emotional and positive walkthrough i have ever seen! Sank you so much! I am very very happy 😊
You won't be dissapointed. ;)
The ending was hilarious. Great episode as always!
My guy. I'm so fucking happy for you my dude. Big fucking congrats, I remember when you said that 10k would be mad. And you know what it is MAD. Seeing your channel blow up is absolutely amazing! As always, sending a mountain load of love my dude
Sohail! bro thank you so much that means the world
This is beautiful, 5 min later he's pain crying
typical day in dark souls lool
@@matiasgago Hhh yes ma dude .. YES
Lol that ending...and with the glorious music! Good job man!
Anor londo is one of the most beautiful areas of all dark souls but also the most frustrating. But reaching gwynevere finally pays it off.
Ornstein and smough are so iconic of dark souls
And certainly better than the duo godskins in elden ring , from artdesign and gameplay perspective.
Btw, Congrats for 10k subs matias !
I'm continuously impressed with how well you play the game, gg on the Ornstein and Smough fight. Excited to see you find out what's next
This area is amazing, just finished it today. Good luck my dude!
It is both amazing and insane haha thanks brotha!
I've been enjoying the series so far. (First time here 😁)
This is probably the least frustrating "first time DS playthrough"
Also, I can't believe this is the same person who spent hours on the gargoyles, now he's taking on 2 giants like nothing 🤣
Love to hear that Pokey welcome to the gang 😁 we’ve come a long way lmaaao
Great job on beating O&S man. You’re completely right about the Godskin Duo being based on them but…well you’ll see. Now that you have the Lordvessel you can kill the firekeepers of bonfires you dont need for the estus upgrades btw. Up to you. Also don’t forget the painting!
