I hit subscribe when you used a loop pedal to demo the EQ. This is something that drives me crazy in other amp/pedal reviews. It's the only way to get a true sense of the difference made by the item being reviewed, and it's settings. Good on you! Thanks, mate!
Thank you for explaining the purpose of the phantom power. I couldn't figure why there was power for a mic on the Amp, but it makes sense for uprights.
I'd already bought this amp head as i was impressed when i tried it in the shop, btw, could you post another one doing a comparison between the 410hlf and the 151hlf then with both. Loved this, very useful
I have and like it. I've also used it going through the TECH 21 VT Bass Deluxe Sans Amp running into the effects in just using the power section, and that sounds good, too. Everything flat except a slight tweak on by active bass tone and pickup knobs to change sounds without even needing to touch the tone on the amp or Sans Amp.
Completely agree about the mute switch. It should be a separate button. Every time you pull it's basically impossible to not tweak the volume level you're set to... Which you can obviously alter, but when you're on a gig in a dark venue and take a set break then come back then have to adjust again... design flaw for sure.
Output: I do believe that the Speakon connector will accept a 1/4 " connector instead of the proprietary Speakon connector. That will allow you to use two common 1/4 " connector-cables for your speaker hookup. Check it out and please let me know. You may find the details in your on-line manual -download. Cheers!
Yes, 100% correct Erie. It will take 2 1/4 connectors. I just much prefer Speakon as they lock in place and are less prone to damage and I suppose its just a bit of a tease giving us only one is all. :) Thanks for the comment though :)
Hallo Clay's Bass Lessons.... I'm considering buying the MB Little Mark 800 Tube. I have a standard 8 ohm Markbass 410HR speaker. A Markbass Standard 151HR with 8 ohms will be added later. Does this combination match in terms of performance? And what is the best way to connect the speakers? I mostly play rock and heavy metal music..... Greetings Joseph
Thanks for the great review. I ended up getting a Aguilar TH 700. One feature I like better with the TH is that it has two speakon cable ports allowing me to hook up to 2 speakers at once without daisey chaining. Thx agaon!
Okay...I love guessing accents and I've always struggled with Aussie vs. Kiwi. That being said, I think I've gotten a better handle on the two and I want to guess. Are you from New Zealand?
I just bought this amp pretty much new off of Craigslist yesterday after watching your video and I love it. It's super versatile and gives me the nice mids for the punchy tone I like. It reminds me of a much much lighter version of the Ampeg SVT-3 Pro I had for a while, the only thing I preferred on the SVT was the like 10 band (I think) eq sliders
Hi. Thanks for the comment and absolutely right. I just much prefer to be able to use speakon first over jack as it’s got that nice locking ability to it. And just found it odd to have one but not two? You can use two jack cables when running two cabs in parallel. But you can’t use two speakons 😢
Awesome! Currently collecting money for a new amp head. Mine just stopped working and now I dont have the money as a student to buy a new one, this sucks but cant do anything about it :D Great video btw, like this channel actually so much! Thumbs up m8^^
Hey, thanks. Glad you're enjoying the channel. Good luck finding funds for your new amp head. Sucks so much when gear breaks down. My Mesa Boogie Rig blew up on tour and spent quite a lot getting it fixed only to sell it to recoup my repair costs and then bought then rig. Loving the Mark Bass.
I spent a couple months playing with this amp and I just never could get a sound that I really liked out of it. It's 'high-mid' is at 800Hz and the 'high' is at 10kHz, so that leaves a huge gap right in the middle that's untouched. As a result, every time I would plug in, it just sounded 'dull' and 'flat' to my ears. I got a Vintage D2 to replace it (sweepable mids) and dialed in quite a bit of ~3kHz and my basses sound so much better now! Also ditto with the scratchy volume pot that seems to be common with these. I give it a couple twists back and forth and it seems to be fine. If I were to do it again, I would just opt for the Vintage D2 with the sweepable mids and skip the Tube 800. YMMV.
Yes 100%. I do prefer the confidence of locking speakon cables though and if it had both on the back then you would have the option of all speakons or all 1/4 jacks or a mix and it wouldn't matter. Cheers for the comment
@@ClaysBassLessons yeah guess you only getting two of the three options with how it's set up. I personally adore this head...run it with a 4ohm db410 Aguilar cab. Sounds like butter with a Pbass
I think the Speakon output doubles as a 1/4 inch speaker output as well worked for me. You might want to try it see if yours also doubles as a 2 in one speaker output as well. Hope this helps. God bless !
Yes absolutely. So you can connect with two 1/4 inch speaker jacks from the head unit when running two cabs in parallel if that's what you want. But I always prefer to connect with Speakons if I can so there's no chance of the cable coming out etc so would have preferred two Speakons. But still. I love this amp!
I just picked up the little mark tube. Do you notice that the master volume turns much easier than the other knobs. The other knobs have a much more positive feel. Not sure if this has to do with the mute switch.
HAHA. Good point. I hadn't thought about it but now that you mention it you're right it does turn easier. Perhaps it does. Just got to make sure not to flick the volume knob up too fast at a gig then. :)
I just bought one of these (used on reverb) and everything was running smoothly until I went to record. I usually use the DI out on the backs of my amps (post EQ) for convenience sake, and it seems like I have absolutely no audio coming from the DI. I would hate to resort to buying a bass driver DI box or something considering I just dropped a paycheck on the head itself. Any ideas?
It sounds pretty good without the mid scoop , I've tried one of these if you crank both mid knobs all the way up it was pretty ballsy for a metal tone through some hartke hydrive cabs
Picked up this bass amp a few few weeks ago. Straight out of the box the master volume pot was scratchy. Gotta be kidding me . The tube? What a joke ! A tiny little, I think 6125 , 1 inch long 3/4 diameter gimmick that made NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL ! Purchased it along with a Markbass 4x10 cabinet. Cabinet is great, love the sound. The head, weak middle. Ended up purchasing a Fender Rumble 800 head. Matched it up with the Markbass 4x10 cabinet and a perfect match. Tons of power, Great classic Fender tone , full, rich, thick, warm, has all the Sound the Markbass head wishes it had. Plus all the accoutrements the Markbass does not have. Check out the Fender Rumble 800. Think you're going to love it. Plus , go online and read more reviews on the markbass head. You'll be surprised.
I currently have a Rumble 800 head with a Rumble 410 cab. Been wanting to go to a Markbass 410 for the lighter weight, and the speakers. IMO the markbass neo speakers are more punchy, and have better overall quality. Hearing someone else love their Rumble 800 with their Markbass cab makes me feel better about getting one. Do you have a 4ohm cab then?
I would like to hear this using a guitar pick. I primarily play faster music with quick Strums Just bought this amp and having a hard time getting a nice tone out of it
Ah right. Yeah I practically never play with a pick so I didn't consider trialing the sound of one in this video. I hope you've had some more luck with that since. Maybe running it a bit higher gain and more towards the tube over solid state with higher gain and lower volume will give you a bit more of that rocky pick sound you're after?
Hey! I am currently using a Little Mark 3 and 2 Aguilar GS 112 cabinets. I am starting to experience the amp killing the volume when I reach certain frequencies. The cabinets are 300 watts and 8 ohm, so using 2, I am pushing my head to 500 wt Max and 4 ohms. Would an upgrade to a powerful amp help me bypass these issues I am having? I feel like I need more power to successfully run the cabs together. Keep in mind that "shutting off" happens on and off. Thanks for anything.
Hey Jacob. That's interesting. Quick question. How are connecting the two cabs to the head? Are you using two cables out the back of the head to each Cab separately? OR are you daisy chaining them using one cable out the back of the head and then another cable between each cab? If you happen to be daisy chaining them that could be your issue! When you do that you're running them in series instead of parallel and actually doubling the resistance instead of halving it. But if you do in fact have them connected correctly then it gets tricky. Becuase you woudn't want to go too much higher in power as those cabs are only rated to 300 watts each. And your head at full power is delivering 250watts to each. The other last thing to check/ask is are you playing an active bass and if so when was the last time you changed the battery. I often start to notice dips in volume as my battery nears its end. Feels like a weird compressor effect. Hope that helps. Let me know if it does.
Clay's Bass Lessons I have always daisy chained. From head, speak on cable to bottom cabinet speakon in, then a quarter inch speaker cable out to the in of the sister cab.. Last night, in panic, I did plug one into the amp speak on, and the other into the 1/4” out just below the amp’s speak on.
Ah right. Unless you have a bi amp heads or one of this special speaker cabs that says “parallel out” on the back of it, you need to run both straight out the back of the head. The first few times I used two cabs i daisy chained and found I was turning the volume up even louder than normal. That’s because daisy chaining is running the cabs in series which doubles your ohmage. So you’re actually running it at 16 ohms and getting quarter power from your amp not 4 ohms at full power. Try a few jams with the parallel setup and see if it feels louder. It should. Hope that helps. Good luck and if you haven’t already please consider subscribing to the channel :) 👍🎸
Hey Clay. Yeah, after my last set when the amp shut off, I unplugged everything and saw the 1/4' input for the second extension cab. I have been daisy chaining so long, I wasn't even sure what it was since the speakon acts as a 1/4' input as well. Ok, I will go speak on to cab and 1/4" input to second cab, and see how it goes tonight. Yeah, more power wouldn't seem right, this amp is more than enough. What do you think is causing the shut down ? Markbass technology to protect the amp ? And yes, subscribing. Thank you!
I agree its nice and light, but if you play in a loud band forget it. Turn it up above number 4 and the cabs cannot cope with it, sounds terrible, and mine has stopped working during a gig, twice!! So whilst they are light, and look good, the reliability isnt there and if you want power, dont believe they are 500 or 800watts.
My advice to you is to get an actual good speaker then. Our bassist just got this amp and it's absolutely deafening even if you don't mic it up as you would at gigs.
