When I worked as a therapy aide in a head injury clinic back in the 90’s, we had two young guys who HATED each other…..but they both LOVED Zeppelin!! One guy was hit by a car when he was high. Lost his leg, confined to a wheelchair. Couple sandwiches short of a picnic….but he’d start singing out loud and shaking his one good fist in the air when Immigrant Song came on. These two guys helped introduce me to Zep. God bless you guys.

A thunderous and epic Viking march with Norse Mithology inside, the way that only Zep could do. A true classic of the best band of all times! Greetings from Brazil!
There were at least four rock/metal innovations of Immigrant Song: 1) Themes of the Vikings/Pre Christian barbarian Europe. This would be developed in many other bands to come including Saxon, Iron Maiden, the Viking Metal genre. 2) Tri-tone prominently featured, which in this song is featured the chorus vocalization, would be a staple of many metal songs to come 3) Fast galloping heavy guitar that laid the prototype for what would become Thrash metal. 4) Fast and intricate bass drum. While Bonham did not use a double bass drum, this song was the prototype for the double bass drum in metal to follow.
Excellent points! _Must hang my head in shame, at least a bit - never really _*_listened_*_ to the drumming in the sense of "how is that sound being created?" @Tanmaydeshpande-ne9gc th-cam.com/video/KbPwHzWpefI/w-d-xo.html A Tri-tone is a dissonant interval that resolves to a fourth or a fifth interval. Immigrant Song chorus vocalization hangs on the Tri-tone before resolving to the 5th. Tri-tones are used commonly in metal to give it a dark and mysterious sound, so they are not "bad" in that context. Enter Sandman main riff by Metallica starts with an octave and then down to the tri-tone before resolving to the fourth interval.
@@ClaudioTine-v4r "The hammer of the gods Will drive our ships to new lands To fight the horde, sing and cry Valhalla, I am coming" this is a clear reference to Norse martial culture and religion, not to mention their sea faring culture, while Huns operated on horseback. The "horde" in this lyric is any martial force standing in the way of their "new lands". The song highlights the explorer side of Norse/Viking culture while not negating its martial side. My comment was about the Immigrant Song opening up for heavy metal the broad theme of pre-Christian Europe, including but not limited to Vikings.

The “land of ice and snow” is Iceland, where Led Zeppelin performed in June 1970. Robert Plant explained : “We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived, all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be canceled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. ‘Immigrant Song’ was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.” The lyric, “Valhalla I am coming” refers to Norse mythology. Valhalla is a hall in Asgard where the souls of fallen warriors are taken by the “Valkyries,” which are spirits of war who carry up heroes who have been slain. One of the lyrics became part of the band’s lore. The line, “The hammer of the gods / Will drive our ships to new lands” got many fans referring to Zeppelin’s sound as the “HAMMER OF THE GODS.” That phrase was even used by author Stephen Davis as the title of a book (1985) about the English group. The hiss at the beginning is feedback from an echo unit. It was intentional. Led Zeppelin opened their live shows with “Immigrant Song” from 1970 to 1972. 💚🎶💜
Led Zeppelin accomplished something that no other band in the history of music has ever been able to accomplish and that accomplishment is the fact that absolutely no one has ever even come close to replicating their sound.
the beginning noise flutter is a tube mic powering up creating some kind of compression loop....did this by mistake at home and there it was...so cool it came out of nowhere in my studio, like a zep ghost had visited. mistakes are often used as cool sounds that no one else has heard, and here we are talking about it. modern music insists that mistakes be erased. what a shame.
Nah man as someone in my early 30s who grew up with rap and 90s rock I can easily tell you Led Zeppelin is the peak of music as well as most music made during your time. In fact I wish I was born earlier so I could be a 20 year old in the 70s with my hippy girlfriend listening to music like this while smoking a joint lol!
The first gig I ever saw was LZ in 1971 in the already decrepit Preston Public Hall, until then a 100 year-old+ venue of great esteem. Immigrant Song was their opener. It was sensational - especially in volume. Plant stated that they'd just come back from the USA where they'd played stadia, not tiny provincial town theatres. There was nearly 2000 in the venue, all young and bouncing, to such an extent that after more than an hour the whole floor touching the stage gave way and dozens of fervent youngsters disappeared in seconds into the grim space beneath the stage itself. LZ left the stage for the 10 minutes or so it took for all of us to drag the kids out from under the stage........ and then the gig restarted like nothing at all had happened, but with a long ribbon of tape stretched across the building wide floor to (successfully) prevent further access to it! People abided by it! Just afterwards the building was demolished.
God bless the 70's and 80's including those who paved the way Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio, Ozzy. Without them there would be no Disturbed, Godsmack and avenged sevenfold and metal of today.
This is the most stupid goofy brilliant awesome powerful dramatic ridiculous heavy relentless hard rock song ever recorded. It is magnificent and sums up everything that is brilliant about rock and roll.

Ever since I heard this song as a kid,I've immensely dug it.The opening guitar riff sounds so..James Bondian.
Really want to go to Norway to see my grandmothers finance family home in Bergen, he is a 4 time awarded Viking war hero, here i come northern lights and Norway!
I love this song!
This song sounds 10-20 years ahead of its time.
And is about infamous invaders & plunderers from 1,100 years ago.
Much more! Even still to this day. Why people always say it. Zeppelin and Floyd will never be matched or surpassed. These guys are true legends.
Peace
@@mamabear2277 You're intentionally ignoring the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, and The Beach Boys. I can sense it.

Still have Led Zep 3 on vinyl and this just rocks.
Great opening song.
Vinyl is still the best.

Semua ini pasti akan musnah
Tetapi tidak cintaku padamu
Karena aku sang Pangeran Cinta

The “land of ice and snow” is Iceland, where Led Zeppelin performed in June 1970.
Robert Plant explained : “We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived, all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be canceled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. ‘Immigrant Song’ was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.”
The lyric, “Valhalla I am coming” refers to Norse mythology.

I agree. LZ is the best rock band ever. Back then classic rock was great.

The isolated drums for this song is amazing
Had to bring my grandson here to convince him this isn't "Thor's theme song from Ragnarok" bless him, he tried 😂😂😂
Led Zeppelin accomplished something that no other band in the history of music has ever been able to accomplish and that accomplishment is the fact that absolutely no one has ever even come close to replicating their sound.
Hope she gets to Chicago soon. That's one of the greatest performance I've seen in along time
Thanks led Zeppelin. The best band ever.
the beginning noise flutter is a tube mic powering up creating some kind of compression loop....did this by mistake at home and there it was...so cool it came out of nowhere in my studio, like a zep ghost had visited. mistakes are often used as cool sounds that no one else has heard, and here we are talking about it. modern music insists that mistakes be erased. what a shame.
This is what you searching for 1:40

Love these guy's,so did my husband. He always talked a out Robert Plant, Jimmy Page & John Bonham. When he passed away we were listening to Kashmir. ❤

This song reminds me of my childhood. This song was in some kind of kid series..
Great song by a great band
LED ZEPPELIN is the band more great of all times.
Very true
Godsmack, disturbed and avenged sevenfold are not metal, lol
Classic of classics !! Great Zep !!! Greetings from Brazil 🙏☮️
