This part of the course did make me a little uncomfortable at first because of the hands on approach. However, I later found just how necessary and effective it was in the field. An appropriate 60 second assessment includes LOC, orientation, airway, breathing, pulses, pupillary response, NOT a test for rebound [but presence of distension, tenderness] and check of nail beds and peripheral edema /skin turgor. In an alert pt. grip is also assessed. Emphasis on symmetry or lack of it was good. Ones gets more info if a stethoscope is used.
