Last gig we went to worked out something like:
    £100 Premier Inn
    £50 dinner and drinks
    £35 train tickets
    £30 gig tickets
That's expensive, and completely broken. The money is going to all the wrong places.
How about: double the gig ticket price, so the band makes some decent money even without selling us T-shirts we don't need - but start and finish the show earlier so we can go home afterwards and don't need to stay overnight?

Then people won't be able to work because they're at work. Unless all shows are on the weekend.

I completely agree, even at the amateur level I'm at. Less so, selling merch, because I can't manage to sell much, but all the different hats I have to wear to run the band are incredible, and all of them are non-musical. I get so pissed off, but if I don't want to limit my playing just to myself at home, so I've got to do it

👋 Hi, I’m the unicorn Merch/Ecommerce guy... yes, we exist! funny how this video finds it's way as i spend sunday working on our klaviyo email flows... but yea, we make vinyl and t-shirts on-demand, setup and run the stores.. all that stuff..

All the money from the effort from all musicians and artists goes to venue owners, lawyers and executives. Basically, to real estate holders. Everything goes back to the same pockets.

I am fair to all bands by not buying any merch
